Record-keeping has always been rather spotty down at the Tryg Cycling HQ, which means that we sometimes have to delve deep into the archives if we want to draw upon any interesting factoids for our fans. There have been some reforms this season: we've never done end-of-year awards before, so why not clean up the archives while we're at it! So, accompanying prize-giving will be an overview of some historical statistics.
The first award that we're presenting is the Riders' Rider of the Year. The aim of this award is for the squad to come together and give recognition to somebody whose hard work has been essential for our successes, but might not necessarily be shown on the television coverage. There was one man this year who was everywhere. He chased down attackers. He protected his leaders from the wind. He offered advice and maintained morale. He even had his own go at the General Classification in Malaysia and secured the National Championship double in Iceland. It is Ingvar Omarsson!

It seemed that reputation was what mattered most to the fans when they were voting for their Fans' Rider of the Year. It was an extremely tight competition, coming right down to the wire. One contingent wanted to celebrate the emergent success of the team's development programme, quite a respectable aim. However, it was the successful contingent was that which preferred to recognise the unwavering service and continuous excitement of the 2022 Tour of America's King of the Mountains: Daniel Hoelgaard!

The youth have always been an important part of Tryg - Gobik's identity. The team was founded to provide a pathway for the bountiful numbers of young Danish talent emerging from the junior ranks. In a sense the management have been successful in this goal; plenty of neo-pros have got their start in Tryg's red & brown, the problem is holding on to them as they age. Instead the only graduates of the development programme are a pair of Germans, both of whom contributed significantly to the promotion efforts this season. Only one of them can be the Fans' Young Rider of the Year however, and it is the one that very nearly was voted in as the overall fan-favourite, that's Max Kanter!

The most difficult award to make has to be the Ride of the Year. There have been so many great moments for the team this season. There was a heated discussion amongst the committee members as to whether the award was to be for a singles day's ride, a stage or a classic, or if riding across the length of a stage race might be considered holistically. There's no telling what the outcome might have been if the former limitation had been imposed, as this award was made based on the aggregate of 21 days of racing. Despite the fact that his weaknesses were exposed early on, this young man didn't lose hope, and road a strategic race which saw him carry on where ostensibly stronger riders faltered. There were no fireworks, no singular moment were everything changed, just day after day after day of hard steady tempos up the steepest climbs America had to offer. A Top 10 in the General Classification, the white jersey and, now, this award where no less than what Georg Zimmermann deserves for his three weeks of devotion to the cause.
That's a wrap on Tryg - Gobik's 2022 Continental Tour campaign. Excellent work by an excellent bunch producing an excellent result. The management would like to thank you all for your support and inform you that we hope to see you next year as a revamped squad tackles our second chance at the ProContinental level.
