You son of a ordkløver! (He knows what it means)
Okay, then, what came first - cycling a la the late 19th century and early 20th century or doping?
Never.

by "doping" do you mean doping in cycling or doping in all sports?

I think at 37 you are a bit old to win the tour
Hmm , Basso should have trained a lot of Time Trials because Armstrong was everytime better , Basso haven´t win even against Ullrich out of form at the 2006 Giro d´Italia , also when the rumour of a TTT is right , Basso should have a brilliant team , Astana at a TTT ouch , I think only Garmin could have a chance against Astana |

Let's get a few things straight, in my own views:
1. Basso won't be allowed at the Tour next year, at least
2. Basso > Contador. easily. Big difference. Contador is the best non suspended stage racer simply because the best of these generations are all suspended or retired.
Once the next generations reach their peak and thus the normal level of top riders in the world is restored, Contador will go back to being very good but not the best. A man who can win the Vuelta, but not the Tour consistently.
He's just taking advantage of a lull in great stage riders (those that are supposed to be at their peak are now suspended or retired), and it won't last much longer.
The relative performances of riders show it clearly. Basso 460 watts in 2006, Contador 435 watts in 2007. Huge difference.

Well, there's been doping - or just cheating - as long as there's been competition sports. I would assume that doping, as we think about it today, has been following and will follow physical sports for all time - thereby not saying there's no doping in chess
My answer to you, Isso, would then be: I don't know what I meant
Never.

I hated him during his 7-year spell, but I agree, I'm a bit happy about it aswell and I won't be in the least surprised if he wins Le Tour and makes himself a true legend.

Now, if only ASO would accept Basso.
Armstrong, Contador and Basso. Just imagine how many people would stop watching it

Whilst I admit that the question of who is better Basso or Contador is open to much debate, one point must be made. Whilst Basso dominated the 2006 Giro, there must be a question about how clean he was in the run up to (and perhaps during) the event? In addition, how much did this affected his performance then and in his career before hand?
Whilst we can all accuse Contadoper of being a doper, the simple fact is that, until now, not one of us can prove that he was doping during his TdF win.
I don't doubt that the premise of isso's point is correct (namely Contador is benifiting from potentially good riders being banned/retired). However, to make comparisons with a convicted doper is unfair.

Fingers crossed he quits again for one reason or another before the Tour de France.
Surely Contador won't be overjoyed if Armstrong comes to Astana with the goal of winning the tour?

personally I don't see the contradiction:-
If your refering to the fact that Basso wasn't found doping during the 06 Giro, then ii accept your point. However, the fact is he has been found guilty and banned, Contador hasn't. When you compare the two riders performances you must accept that question will be raised.
Anyway it's not important...... I like the discussons we have on this forum, it challenges my own opinions, and some of you guys seem to know a hell of a lot more about cycling than me so I learn too!
Back to Armstrong, I say good luck to him. However I get the feeling if he does come back and doesn't win next years tour, then it will unfortunately leave more questions than answers.
Goodnight all!

I don't raise questions. They're both guilty, so I feel at ease comparing them.

I don't think Lance will go to Astana. There are too much capitans, who surely won't be happy if Lance joins.
I think (and hope) it'll be Columbia. It's american, they've Stapleton and he would be the captain, with some decent helpers (Gerdemann, Lövkvist, Rogers, etc.)
Although i'm not so happy about his comeback, i'll accept him in the peleton...
Now only Ulle is left, maybe he makes a comeback too? ^^ Then we would have Ulle vs. Armstrong vs. Basso. Like 05. I don't know if i would celebrate or cry about this....
Crazy day.
