In all fairness to Millar, at least he says "I fucked up, but it's really somebody else's fault". Roche just says "everybody else fucked up and I was just so unlucky it affected me".
Millars was the only one my library had, so I am halfway through. Mixed feelings so far. Will finish it first before I weigh in.
No question you don't get to be a big sports star without a a big ego. Some level of selfishness is necessary to succeed.

Another great book. "The secret race" by Tyler hamilton! Amazing book... Must read for cycling fans!
Definately agreed. Believe it or not, this was actually the book that really got me in to cycling and PCM.
EXACTLY THE SAME!!! I knew barely anything about cycling... with just abit of knowledge. Now I love the sport to death. And not long after i read the book PCM! HAHAH
The Secret Race was good, a little surprised it would get you into cycling but I guess better to start from the bad news.
Had a cycling book reading binge while on vacation last week and raad Millar's biography as well as Cavendish's and "Road to Valor" about Gino Bartioli.
Would recommend the latter two. Cavendish's book is better than you would expect as others have noted. I particularly enjoyed the first two thirds which were balanced and entertaining. In the last third his ego starts to dominate.
Bartoli book is only partially about cycling and a lot about his war time work on behalf of Jewish refugees, he was undoubtedly a character.
I think Millar is too nice, so he pounds a few people/teams that he really blames but isn't willing to criticize people he likes, even a little. So I didn't find it that interesting. I thought I got a better feel for David Millar from a few descriptions in Cavendish's books than I did from his entire book.
