The 4th stage takes us from Worcester to Wolverhampton. It's pancake flat.
This is where we hoped Nico and/or Gert could steal some seconds back of Cancellara and/or a stage win.
The break were easily rounded up and we were placed well come the hard end of the sprint.
But Gert couldn't manage to come round Haedo and Mattan couldn't manage to steal 3rd.
Still, a good stage by our standards.

The summit finish is everything. Nico will do what he can. Brute force is a little more important than tactics.
The breakaway made it's move after Rotherham, looking for points for the sprints and KOM jerseys, as well as that elusive stage win.
They were just too weak in the end so we could take it easy and protect Nico. They were caught with 20km left. We kept the pace high and stopped the breakaways.
Approaching the final climb, Matti led Nico to the front. It was time.
As soon as he could feel the gradient stinging his legs he jumped away with maximum ferocity.
He distanced them momentarily, but they began to drag him back in, led by Tjallingi. Would they end it for him and sweep past?
No, Nico kept going and going. He got the gap and, although Tjallingi stayed with him, he distanced the big GC men.
And took the win!
And the overall lead!
Superb riding from Nico is rewarded. He took enough time for a substantial lead, especially over a 1k climb.
Surely Cancellara won't find the terrain to take that back now.

This is the last stage of the race and my last stage of the year. 124 hilly kilometres through Scotland to the race finish in Glasgow.
It was a strong break who went away on the final stage. Maybe I underestimated them.
I was keen to let a break stay away so Cancellara wouldn't be able to take back those 5 precious seconds. I thought CSC would chase but they didn't. And when the gap rose to 10 minutes I realised how cynical they were. They couldn't win so they didn't want us to.
Well, no one does that to DFL. I told the boys to chase and I told them what CSC were doing. And then they were fired up. DFL lined out the peloton.
I had no idea whether we would catch them. Roger Hammond stood to inherit the jersey and he looked strong. However, he was outfoxed by Discovery's Volodimyr Bileka for the stage win. He might get a bigger prize though.

Try finding the actual DFL jersey, the one youre currently using is the default 'LDF Velingnews.com' one that came with the game.

thanks for the tip but that's the end of the season for me
I'm starting my new job so I'm leaving the rest of the season to my DS, who hasn't yet got a job for next year. Hopefully it will help him |

It has been a great half-season with the team. When I joined in late July the team had achieved a few good results but had lacked consistency and had no wins to their name. They were languishing in 29th in the Continental Rankings.
I changed that.
6 wins, a national champions jersey, a Tour of Britain yellow and green jersey, a rider in 5th in the Continental Rankings (Nico Mattan) and, yes it's true, a massive 24-position leap by the team to a hugely overachieving 5th in the Continental Rankings. Yes 5th!
I think I've done quite well. I've enjoyed it at least and it's earned me a great job for next year. I can't tell you anymore about that until the press conference in January but it's a bloody good one.
Goodbye DFL! Thankyou!
I can't wait till next year. |

Not long before I can announce my team. Yes, I'm still talking to you guys on Christmas Day. I sure love my nephew
Anyway, team presentation is January 3rd (so the guys can get rid of their hangover (me too, I'll have to drink my way out of my family's stranglehold of boredom). You'll find out then.
Oh, and I have a new weekly TV show on More4, The Cycle Show. No Ligget, don't worry, but hopefully it'll give you a chance to catch up on the sport, if you haven't got Eurosport, and it'll expand the cycling coverage in the UK. That's 8pm until 9pm, Wednesdays on More4 |

It's over.
The team I was contracted to collapsed, similar to the Mcartney case in 2001.
I don't know what to do. I have the money from a years contract in my hands, as do all the other riders, but most of them have found jobs. I haven't. Either I'm going to have to take a hiatus or quit managing altogether, as nearly every team has a manager, because the racing season has already started.
I despair! |
