Vuelta discussion
Goldberger
We will see, dont forget that Leipheimer was stronger than Contador in the last stages in tour 2007, and also much stronger than Sastre. I think Leipheimer will get a top 3 in GC atleast. I have less faith in Klöden though, he always dissapoints me in grand toursSad

I posted about 3 times rebating a few people's points, and why Leipheimer is weaker and Kloden stronger than Goldberger says, but the post never appears after I posted, so i'm sick and tired of re-writing the same crap.

So, to further prove the unrelated point that Contador might at any time go from "most promising young rider in the world" and "sure thing" to "steaming pile of manure", here's an example. This is today's Volta a Portugal TT.

1st Hector Guerra(Spa) Liberty Seguros
(...)
31st Isidro Nozal (Spa) Liberty Seguros +3.57

he's in top form. The TT was 31kms long.

Jon Patrick McCarthy beat him by half an hour overall.
That's how much one can fall

2:25 behind in the time trial, 1h25m behind on GC. So no moustache shaving for him

Leipeihmer is going to get his ass kicked very hard by contador, on the climbs, and besides Leipeihmer only made on fantastic TT in his life (last TT in TDF last year), most of his other TT's are just average.

Apparently bronze medal is average to you. Since end of 2006..he's done extensive TT testing and has supposedly crushed some aerodynamic records. This is why you see a big improvement in recent years...and you can see it in his positioning on bike now.

I know why Isidro Nozal sucks now, it's because he no longer has Fuentes as his doctorWink Ever since Nozal had too high blood values and got suspended, he has been a worse rider. When you look at his body shape in the first place he shouldn't really be the climber he was in the Vuelta in 2003 and 2004.

Concerning Leipheimer and Klöden, I know Klöden has been better in most Grand Tours they have raced together, it's just I think Leipheimer is in better form now, and will do a better Vuelta. I really don't think Klöden can follow the best in the mountains, he has a big problem with acclerationsSad And yes Leipheimer has improved his tt, as shown in olympics and 2007 tour.

He sucked way before that. I wrote a big text on Nozal a while ago. look for it, it might still be on the forum. or maybe it was on a PM. I won't write it again, but he has mental issues. BIG ONES.

That, I agree with

Okay, ive been looking for some information about Isidro Nozal for a long time, but it's hard to find spanish/portugese cycling articles that are translated to english. On the Leipheimer issue, I think he's better at following attacks than Klöden, because he really sucks at itWink.

In non-drug-related news, Tinkoff has named its squad for this years Vuelta. As expected, Ignatiev will be the team leader, going for a stage win. For the overall they have the once-a-year performer Petrov, the injury-wracked Serrano, and (do i need to say anything?) Pedraza. They also have the first Russian Giro stage winner (for a long time) Brutt, along with Vasil Kiryienka, another stage winner and 3rd (or is that now 2nd) placed in the KoM Giro competition. Ivan Rovny will be once again waiting to burst onto the scenes (or so they keep saying). Trusov and neo-pro Eskov (in his first grand tour) will be attempting sprint wins.

Maybe later today I can re-write it. I think I might know where to find a copy of what I wrote Wink

CSC fans are stupidity on a string. Quite simply. They go "Hey now, CSC, thats like a danish team! They have Bjarne Riis and around minus 12 danish riders! It doesnt get more danish than that! Lets support them!"

CSC - Saxo Bank is just as danish as Astana is from Kazakhstan now that Vino and Kash isnt there.

ZOMG butz deh Anker (you can't get more annoying than referring to Sorensen as "Anker" ) is teh greateztz climbahz evah!!!!!!!!!

That or random norwegian saying "The speed is high for the sprint. that's good for Hagen", which reminds me of someone saying "this 35% incline will be perfect for Backstedt's time trialling abilities"

A 35% decline perhaps...

Also, during the Olympic races, all riders that didnt ride for CSC was mentioned by their nationality. But when it was Cancellara or someone, it was always "There goes CSC's Cancellara". It was never "Fabian Cancellara from Switzerland won gold!" but "Cancellara from Team CSC".

Anyway, not to derail this any further...
