Not exactly the best of races for us so far. Bongiorno did OK, but the rest of the team has done horrible... No breakaways, and Ackerman doing "his thing". Also Koretzky already with a significant time loss, which definately wasn't to be expected. Zero points, is not good enough really!

Another decent stage for us. Once again we're actively trying to get into the break, which I like to see. Had hoped someone would follow up Vichot's efforts when the first attempt got caught, though, but you can't succeed every day.
Really happy with Kreder. He found pretty much the perfect wheel and was able to stay out of the wind pretty much until the perfect moment. Very close to the win once again, but unfortunately lacking that last bit of speed that his competitors have.
Congrats to Abhi!

I'm marvelling how do you manage with that titanic work? Lot of screenshots, vast sea of text descriptions and statistics, even sprinters disposition before the finish line...
Well, the sprinters disposition is a standard thing you'll find in many other reports, too. I just copied that one, because it gives quite a helpful overview.
For the rest, well, I had plenty of time for this race - and it indeed took plenty of time. To be honest, I think I did too much. But well, I just wrote about what I observed, and I'm not good at leaving out stuff That's something I'd definitely need to learn for being more productive.
One question in this regard: does anyone actually read the stage description I'm usually starting with, or do you directly jump into the race action (or even to the results)? Given that I don't know a lot about Portugal, writing that part actually takes quite some time, and if no-one is even interested in this, I could leave this out in the future. Well, if some day I should get to report Tour de Suisse/Romandie, I'd spam you with stage details, because these are my "home" races
Personally, I find it really interesting to gather information about the start/finish locations, but I don't know if it's interesting to read it.

Two really good 'harder' sprint stages from Sam Harrison. He hasn't seemed to adapt to PCT level racing as well as his break-out CT performance assisting WCC in their CT promotion title campaign a couple of seasons ago suggested he might. The last 2 days certainly puts his name back in the hat for consideration re: contract renewal discussions.
The 1st proper road stage demonstrated something that has cropped up a number of times this season in terms of this PCM AI not coping brilliantly working out bunch positioning for guys with later overall GC ambitions on tricky flat stages. We got away with Ji upfront on the day with crucial splits, but the more 'suited' to that stage Sepulveda lost out quite significantly, although of course not as much as crazy-man Betancourt. In previous editions this sort of outcome would point to potential 'narrow-road' problems. Now it just seems that the AI takes the stage somewhat separately from the overall flavour of the race. Exciting racing for sure, but it is a shame that at times feels a wee bit like buying a lottery ticket rather than having an actively positive input as a team DS. No fault of the reporter of course, and continued appreciation for the in-depth reporting!

I liked it, to me it gave the report a different feel, more like a live commentary, I could just imagine that opening being said as you tune into coverage on Eurosport or a live stream whereas I read most reports like they are a detailed news article reporting what happened in the stage/ race.

@Scorchio
There definitely wasn't a narrow roads issue on that stage. But for a reason I don't know about PCM decided that climbers were more important to be positioned up front than puncheurs. Had it been a hilly-rated stage, we might have seen a different outcome. But well, I guess that's one of the learnings for next season ^^
@sammy
Thanks for the feedback. That's what it's meant to be like
And now I'll try to shut up over here and maybe add my two cents after the race

PCT Teams really doing well here!
Annoying stage for us, all those hilly riders and none in the break. Furthermore losing the white jersey this way is just meh. It's not that we're riding bad, we just miss that little bit of extra luck.
Thanks for another great report!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Nice to keep yellow but a super frustrating stage as Houle clearly had the legs to win had the stage gone differently (though maybe the puncheurs would have just gone harder) and we also saw Bobridge gain time which really isn’t nice. Nothing disastrous but not an ideal day at all.
And Fabianski, I really like the extra details and the preview at the start of the stage

Incredible stage from Vichot. He's in it for every KoM and intermediate sprint, and he still has energy left to challenge Caruso for the stage win! Shame that he lost it on the last meters, which I feel has been a theme for us this season, but I guess that could be due to a number of our riders having a good acc stat, thus finding themselves in a situation where they often take an early lead in the sprints.
Vichot climbing to 2nd in the GC is great, but also means it's gonna be tough to defend the KoM jersey. Hopefully Stuyven can step up once again and cover the break on the next stage.
Four riders in the top 12 of the GC is fantastic, although they're all bound to fall back sooner or later, given the mountain stage that's lurking on the horizon. The finish on the next stage also looks hard enough to create som bigger gaps.

Oh, certainly didn't expect that from Caruso, what a great stage. So glad to see Modolo hanging on to 4th GC also.
This may prove to be a very good stage race for us. Come on guys! |

Wow, exciting stage! Enjoyed that one a lot. And then Caruso with a surprise win, congratulations, Bjartne!
Like the steady reporting too, thank you for that, Fabianski |

Well this doesn't surprise me after the season we've had. No one gets into breaks and the whole team gets sent back to protect our sprinter on a stage like this!

Awesome reports
I just wish my riders could get some better results, I need every point I can get, and it seems like my domestiques understand that by joining breakways left right and center. Just need a lot of luck (and maybe some good stages by my leaders

A shame Bennett seemed to go too early and couldn’t get any bonuses or the stage win, as bonus seconds would do a lot to erase the prologue gap (especially given there’s more TT kilometres to come so to beat most of his rivals he needs to get a gap on them). However given he was in the top 7 and we seemed to be paying attention and working hard on the front of the peloton for him it’s a solid sign for the rest of the race. Obviously never nice to lose yellow but we knew it was coming, would be cool if Houle manages to keep green but at the same time Bennett is our priority.

I will rarely complain with attacking and am fine with Skujins attacking although i dont think it is the smartest move today with the next stages in mind. However: what was that attack by Stoltz in the final climb. That one was beyond stupid and probably cost Skujins the victory (when the alternative is just setting a high tempo)
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

This is really one of those "almost" races, just outside the top 10, 2nd and 3rd in Youth, 2nd in teams. But entertaining reports to cheer me up!

Not a good stage for us with no presence in the breakaway and Gallopin losing more than five minutes to the favorites. On the other hand, this should open up breakaway opportunities for him, with several suitable stages coming up. Also a positive that Vichot didn't fall too far back in the mountain classification.
