It's been three weeks since my last post in this topic. Work, watching Football (European Championship) & Tour de France, friends visiting and other parties and obligations during the weekend have kept me from playing the game.
So this story isn't dead jet.
Tour de Qatar 2.1 (28 January - 2 February)
This race consist out of a TTT and 5 very flat races.
Team leader:
Juan Van Heerden (Juan's fitness is growing and we hope he can translate that in some top 5 finishes)
Other riders:
Herman Fouché (Herman is here to help Juan out in the final KM's)
Salvatore Hadrioui
Kacem Frenda
Dion Botha
Travis Allen
Bab Kuider (These riders are here to produce a decent TTT and protect Juan during the race)
Our first goal is to see if Juan can get some top 5 results in the sprints.
Secondly we hope to reduce the time loss in the TTT, so Juan can claim a top GC spot by picking up some bonus seconds in the sprint.

Conclusion
This was a race to forget as soon as possible. We had a lot of misfortune. But we were not the only one. More then half of the peleton was involved in at least one of the many crashes. As a result our only rider who managed to stay on his bike, Travis Allen, had climbed to the 23th spot at the end of the race.
We just have to lick our wounds and move on.

Looking good for Froome! Hopefully he can keep his high GC position (and avoid the crashes like you had in Qatar)

Conclusion
We're very satisfied with Chris his race. 3th place is more then we hoped for. This gives us confidence for California.
We're also very happy with the first win of the season. Erik shows he is an asset to the the team and it was a good choice to sign him.
We've had a great race; 1 stage win, 3th place overall, the U25 jersey, 2nd place points classification and 5 top 5 finishes.
The only point of criticism is for our sprinters. Daryl didn't do bad at all considering this was his first race and that his fitness isn't great jet, but some of the stage we were a not alert enough and had to start the sprint from to far behind. The team needs to work on that. |

Tour Méditerranéen 2.1 (13-18 January)
This race consist out of a TTT and 3 flat races and 2 hilly stage. Especially stage 4 is a difficult one as the last 5 km are uphill to the finish.
Teamleader;
Juan Van Heerden (Juan is working towards the Trofeo Laigueglia 1.1 (20 February) and in top shape. We hope he can win us a stage here. If it goes really well he might even be capable of finishing high in the GC.)
Free;
Hassen Ben Nasser (Hassen is also targeting the Trofeo Laigueglia. He has a free role, but will help out Juan in the final kilometers of the flat stages and perhaps get his chance in the hilly stages.)
Abdelkader Belmokhtar (Ab will try to get in the breakaway and if possible have a go at collecting enough points to win the KOM jersey.)
Ohter riders;
Pieter Seyffert (Pieter is Juan's lead out man in the flat stages)
Dion Botha
Rafaâ Chtioui
Abderraman Nurani
Dennis Van Niekerk (These 4 riders will protect Juan during the race.)
Our goal is to guide Juan to a stage win. Claiming a top spot in the GC might be difficult and to realize that Juan has to sprint to top 3 spots.

KOM
1st Abdelkader Belmokhtar TEAM KONICA MINOLTA 70
Conclusion
Juan road a good race, winning a stage and finishing 7th in the GC. We hoped the hilly stages would be less hard, so Juan had a chance to finish even higher in the GC. But that makes his 7th place only a better performance for him.
Hassen worked the whole race for Juan and showed to be fit for Trofeo Laigueglia 1.1 (20 February).
Abdelkader was given a free role to achieve his goal to grab the KOM jersey. Ab performed very well and got into the breakaway in 3 different stages.
We're happy with the stage win, the KOM jersey and the performance of the team.

Amgen Tour of California 2.HC (18-25 February)
The route isn't very difficult. To only mountain stage of the race doesn't have an uphill finish and only one of the three hilly stage looks difficult. The rest of the stages consist out of a prologue, a TT and two flat stage.
The difficulty will come from the tough competition which consist out of 9 ProTour teams for instance.
Team Leader:
Chris Froome (He is in top shape. We don't expect he can make the difference himself, so his aim is the stay with the best and hang on.)
Sprinter:
Daryl Impey (Daryl will try to get a win here. To do that he will have to beat sprinters like Bettini, Pozzato, Paolini, Greipel and O'Grady)
Teammates:
Dan Craven
Erik Hoffmann (Dan and Erik will assist Chris in the uphill section and if possible see how high they can finish themselves in the GC)
David George
Jay Thompson (David and Jay are here to gain race fitness for the Giro del Capo 2.2 (6-11 March) and they will work for the team when necessary)
Herman Fouché
Ahmed Bara (Herman and Ahmed are here to protect Chris and Daryl during the race)
This race is our first goal of the season. We want to claim a top 10 spot in the GC with Chris. The team will work for him and when possible assist Daryl in the sprint.
STAGE 1 (18 February)
1 Marco Pinotti T-MOBILE TEAM 05'27
2 Manuel Quinziato LIQUIGAS +04
3 Jimmy Engoulvent CRÉDIT AGRICOLE +05
4 Filippo Pozzato LIQUIGAS +06
5 Leif Hoste PREDICTOR - LOTTO s.t.
6 Jens Voigt TEAM CSC s.t.
7 Fabian Cancellara TEAM CSC +08
8 Chris Froome TEAM KONICA MINOLTA s.t.
9 Sylvain Chavanel T-MOBILE TEAM +09
10 Sebastian Lang GEROLSTEINER s.t.
U25
1 Chris Froome TEAM KONICA MINOLTA 05'35
Conclusion
This is a promising start. 8th place and the U25 jersey. Now the team has to make sure Chris gets to Stage 4 (to only mountain stage) without any time loss.
