Valverde could have been in the lead with 2 stage wins, without the crash. Or perhaps Froome would have attacked very hard Mont du Chat to drop Valverde and succeed in it.

He won't get it and he can't pull it off anyway any more. Too many better climbers in the peloton. He is not getting any younger.
Last year he went 3-6-12 (one of which was as a domestique for a pretty average Quintana, the other a domestique for a very good Quintana after two GTs already, and the other only behind two of the best climbers in the world at altitude which he's not good at) which Quintana (and I bet most other of these so-called better climbers) can't do, apparently. This year he crashed out in the first stage of the Tour. Only other stage races were winning Catalunya and Pais Vasco, both ahead of at least 3 riders who are in the top 10 or have performed well enough that they could be in the top 10 in this year's Tour. He then came 9th in the Dauphine, which wasn't top but ahead of two current top 10 TDF riders. So with him not having really ridden a GT this year this is all the evidence we have, and he looks pretty damn good
You don't need to convince me about Valverde's capabilities. He is my favourite cyclist and the rider I make sure to follow, even more than Nairo. I still don't think he will win a GT going ahead or would've won one last year even in Quintana's absence.

Not saying he would've or definitely ould now but tbh he deserves a leadership shot since he can obviously still podium and could win one. With landa/nairo/valv it'd be hard to do but I was dissapointed that he missed out here as with Nairo struggling anyway but also post-Giro he looked to have an excellent leadership shot which in a Landa and Nairo world he may not get which would be shitty as he still deserves it with them there.

Valverde's not going to the Vuelta, is he? Would've been a good answer to our conflict, given that Nairo's not going there. I guess we'll never know. I don't see him leaving Movistar tbh.
There are rumours of Aru going to UAE. In that case, Astana might be Nairo's choice going ahead. The situation at Movistar is not working out anymore in my opinion. I don't see Nairo joining Sky as long as Froome is there. Beyond that, it's a possiblity. Might be the only way he wins a TDF!
Yes, I've become cynical about my hero since he stopped attacking effectively on climbs. Hope he can make me a believer again.

Yes and Schleck might get a fairy to tell him in his teens not to be a fucking retard when on bike.
But alas that too is alternative history. |

sounds very strange, both teams are the possibly worst fit for him (but pay the most?)
and he has contract until 2019 hasn't he? but either way, it will be interesting to see where Movistar goes with Landa, Valverde and Quintana
How are they worst fits???
Quintana would be, 2nd best climber at Sky and with Froome targeting only one race he can choose and pick for most.
Aru may leave Astana which gives Nairo again total control.
This makes perfect sense if Landa is going in.
Anyway Sky already hired Quintana old coach to the team. Nairo riding style is also suited to sky and his personality as well, very measured. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens. |

He planned it but all up in the air now, but he seems to be doing OK. Hope he makes it back in time

See Arberg this is how you do it
Also, Apparently Trentin -> Orica is a done deal but no comment from either.

Dylan van Baarle is about to extend his contract with Cannondale, and it is expected that Uran, Rolland and Simon Clarke will extend as well. Formolo isn't sure yet, as Bora is interested in him.
Besides that, young talents Neilson Powless and Chris Lawless (lol those last names are a funny coincidence haha) will ride for Cannondale as well.

Trentin has been linked to FDJ, the new french PCT squad and Orica. |

Lefevere stated that Trentin is likely to leave but he's not going to join the Pineau project or AG2R.

I cannot possibly overstate how much I hate this team. Sivakov could be on a Bernal level of climbing talent and they fucking get both. Rot in hell.

fuck fuck fuck not Sivakov why not Katusha - Alpecin?
Trentin to immediately lead Orica in classics is nice, they lacked someone competitive there
Nieve to Orica is tragic

I hate the sivakov transfer too, but don't think of him as russian.
He says he's french. He was born and raised in france where his father raced as a professional and he only rides for russia in the world championships because france don't want to select him. He wants to be world champion so he rides for whoever selects him |
