Le Tour de Bretagne Cycliste – Stage 5

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0001-9.jpg

This is Jonas Aaen terrain. Lots of hills all day and an uphill finish should make for a very interesting day at the office for me.

Vandborg haven’t been satisfied with how this tour has worked out for him, so he attacked with stage 3 winner, Oredsson, later they were joined by 7 other riders.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0017-2.jpg

At the top of the last but final climb, on the flat part, Vandborg pulled away from his breakaway companions and they would not catch him again.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0019-3.jpg

Vandborg was really motoring and at the bottom of the final climb leading up to the finish, he had an advantage over the pack of 29 seconds with 5 kilometres to go.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0021-1.jpg

I positioned myself at the front of the pack and I was the only GLS rider left in the bunch. Vandborg was still up front when Lars Boom attacked with 3 kilometres to go. I countered him.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0022.jpg

Boom has definitely improved since Normandie and plus the fact that I’m not in my Normandie condition, I couldn’t hold his wheel and he entered the final kilometre on his own.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0023.jpg

Boom took it and consolidates his lead.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0024-3.jpg

I was edged out by Designa’s Mortensen and Sparkasse’s Ruijgh as I claimed 4th on the day, which I’m very satisfied with. Vandborg did a fantastic job as he finished 7th and managed to stay with the group I finished in.

Le Tour de Bretagne Cycliste – Stage 6

If this time trial was longer then Vandborg might had stood a small chance of breaking back into the top ten but today’s 7 kilometres is too short for him. I’m pretty rubbish in time trials as you have all learned by now so my chances of breaking into the top 20 seems also minimal.

Vandborg did a good time trial and he kept the lead for a long time.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0003-6.jpg

As told this is not my terrain and I had to settle for 58th on the day, 38 seconds off the winner.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0004-6.jpg

This winner was of course Lars Boom who controlled today’s stage by beating Martin Mortensen by no less than 7 seconds and he seems a comfortable winner ahead of tomorrow’s stage, which features a few hills but has a flat finish, so it suits me very well and I’m actually starting to feel a bit stronger.

Le Tour de Bretagne Cycliste – Stage 7

A dissapointing tour is coming to an end. I’m our best ranked rider in 25th and that is far from what we had hoped for. It’s good enough for me considering my form but not Vandborg. Actually if he hadn’t been dropped from the pack on stage 2 he would sit 3rd in the GC right now so he is definitely lamenting his crash on that stage.

I would have liked to attack today but I’m not far enough back in the GC to be let go, so we sent off Martin Pedersen.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0006-6.jpg

The breakaway looked to be caught. But with just over 20 kilometres to go having climbed the last climb of the tour, Owszarek, Delpech and a rider from the Roubaix team attacked and got a gap.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0008-7.jpg

Owszarek was the strongest and he got a gap over the others, but the pack is closing in. Can he hold on?

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0010-8.jpg

I was well-positioned and feeling better than my opponents due to the climbs we have been over. Vandborg was also at the front but I was not really aware whether the last breakaway riders had been caught yet.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0011-6.jpg

I started to sprint and I felt quite strong but as I looked up, Delpech and Owszarek was still up the road and Owszarek wasn’t to be caught today as he claimed the final stage.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0012-4.jpg

I settled for 6th on the day, so I’m more or less content.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0013-5.jpg

Next race for me is Szlakiem Grodòw Piastowskich which takes place from May 8 – 11. It is a Polish 2.1 race, so for the first time this season I will enter a .2 race, so the competition will be slightly higher here. After that, my next race is in June and it is Ringerika GP, which is a race that suits me perfectly with all 5 stages being hilly. A race I’m really looking forward to.

Szlakiem Grodòw Piastowskich – Stage 1

This unpronouncable Polish race is my first 2.1 race of the season and we really had to get used to the amount of riders actually taking part here. 164 riders line up for the start today, which is about 100 more than we are used to. The competition has also gotten a bit stiffer but not as much as I feared it would be. I felt quite good as I signed in this morning and if I get a good feeling from my legs on the course I’ll try to do something if there’s a massed sprint finish.

The remaining rider, Georges, from the TV break was reeled in at the 25 kilometres to go mark.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0004-7.jpg

I was having diamond legs today and I managed to position myself perfectly in the wheel of Alex Rasmussen.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0006-7.jpg

But Pollack who were lead out by Korff was strong and began pulling away from Rasmussen, with me stuck in his wheel.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0007-8.jpg

I soon made my move though and I was actually going faster than Pollack as I came storming from behind.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0008-8.jpg

But I ran out of road as I couldn’t quite catch the German, but still I’m very happy with 2nd place today as this is my first 2.1 race of the season. Tomorrow features a 26 km time trial and my GC aspirations will definitely end there. Instead we will look to Vandborg to do something big.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0009-6.jpg

I was appaluded on the podium though for being the best U25 rider, which was quite nice. I haven’t been up here since Normandie.

Szlakiem Grodòw Piastowskich – Stage 2

Without further ado I give you my absolute nemesis, name time trialing. Today’s time trial is the longest of my season so far and I will have my GC aspirations thrown right out the window no doubt, but then again I didn’t come here to ride my own chances but to support Vandborg who will definitely do very well today as he’s in peak condition right now. The time trial is 26 kilometres so it will be a defining stage.

Sestili of Ceramica Flaminia was the first stage contender to hit the course and he surged into the lead.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0012-5.jpg

Then it was Vandborg’s turn. He trailed Sestili with 3 seconds at the halfway mark but he turned the deficit over as he would end up leading the Italian by 10 seconds, a nice effort from our captain.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0011-7.jpg

Vandborg raced with Luke Roberts at Team CSC in 2006, but Roberts showed no mercy to his former affiliate as he clocked a time, 13 seconds faster.

Then it was my turn to hit the road, behind me Pollack started and being a great time trialist he caught and passed me with about 10 kilometres to go. Pollack would only go second on the day but he was going to defend his jersey. Me one the other hand finished 129th, 2’31 down.

Szlakiem Grodòw Piastowskich – Stage 3

I’m completely out of the GC now but unfortuneately that doesn’t mean I can go on the break. Our Directeur Sportif, Tom Breschel, who is in fact related to Matti Breschel (He is Matti’s father), told us to stay with Vandborg today and let Volksbank do the work at the front, because there’s no way they would let a break stay clear any way. I guess I’ll try something in the mass sprint then as I did very well on the first stage.

5 riders went on the break.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0015-6.jpg

And as Tom said they would be reeled in again as they were caught with 25 kilometres to go.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0018-3.jpg

After our misfortunes in Normandie and Vaucluse we have finally learned that we have to stay at the front of the pack in the finales, so we did, which got me in a very good position.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0019-4.jpg

I found Janiaczyk’s wheel at the very front. I tried to follow but other riders were stronger today.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0020-2.jpg

Janiaczyk was challenged by Tour de Normandie Winner Michael Reihs and it looked to be between these two before Miche’s Krzysztof Szczawinski came shooting up the home straight on the left hand side and took a stunning win. I finished 4th so I’m still in the fight for the points jersey, but to win it Pollack mustn’t score tomorrow. It’s a hilly stage and that’s not his terrain so he will struggle no doubt. Vandborg kept his 3rd and tomorrow we will definitely try to push Pollack, because if we can drop him then Vandborg will move up in the GC.

Szlakiem Grodòw Piastowskich – Stage 4

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0040.jpg

Looking at the profile at this morning’s team meeting we decided we wouldn’t let Pollack win this easily. So we will push hard to drop him. Roberts isn’t a strong climber either and if we could drop them both it would be fantastic, because in that case Vandborg would win this tour.

Six riders went on the break.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0022-1.jpg

Mroz of CCC went solo from them however as soon as they hit the hills with 125 km to the line.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0024-4.jpg

Meanwhile me, Niki and Kristoffer who were the only to stay with Vandborg all day gave everything to keep him safe.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0025-4.jpg

On the fifth climb Marczynski of Ceramica Flaminia went on the break. Fajt tried to counter but he couldn’t keep the wheel of the Polish champ.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0027-3.jpg

At the top of the fifth climb Pollack was clearly struggling as he was way back in the pack. 55 km to go.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0028-2.jpg

With 40 km to go the race came back together so the stage would end in a sprint. Pollack only have to keep up on the flat part now, but he’s been in big troubles on the climbs.

With 15 kilometres to go it happens. Race leader Olaf Pollack drops off the back of the bunch. We responded immediately by piling the pressure on with me, Niki, Kristoffer and even Brian at the front of the pack.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0031-1.jpg

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0033-2.jpg

The Volksbank team dropped back to their captain.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0034-1.jpg

The sprint was a bit chaotic. Me and Niki was on the right side and Brian was in the middle.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0035.jpg

Gazvoda started sprinting from the front and he looked to be too strong. I made my move though and started gaining on him, I can win the points competition now.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0036.jpg

But it was too late as I only managed second on the stage but it could be enough to take the points jersey.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0037.jpg

Luke Roberts finished with the pack while Pollack rolled in 2’46 after Gazvoda. This means Vandborg would finish 2nd, which is a great result for us and Brian was also thrilled with the result. Szczawinski finished 9th today which means we end up joint leaders in the points competition, but I claimed it in the end with my 2nd place on the stage.

I recieved my second applause on the podium in this tour and I’m very happy with winning this jersey.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0038.jpg

In a few days we will sent teams to Olympia’s Tour and FDB Insurance, both stage races, and I will be the only GLS rider not going as I have already raced a lot. As told my next race is in Norway in Ringerike GP which I’m really looking forward to.

Nice result there. Jorgenson just won the Ringerike GP in 2008 in my DFL career, so good luck

EOS Tallinn GP

I wasn’t supposed to ride again until June in Ringerike GP but plans have changed slightly as I will have to sit through this Estonian one-day race. It’s a completely flat race and after that Polish race I was stunned when I showed up to the sign-in as I learned that only 46 riders were taking part today. We only lined up with me and Glenn Bak because the rest of the team is racing respectively Olympia’s Tour and FBD Insurance Ras.

I tried to get in the break but apparently I’m getting a bit famous because the pack wouldn’t let me go. Instead a group of seven went away. Bak wouldn’t go with it because he has just returned from an injury.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0001-10.jpg

The small pack didn’t want to chase at all and the break would make it home by a mile (which is an understatement as it was more like 10 miles). The group consisted of Nielsen (DES), Tisza (P-Nivo), Mroz (CCC), Hess (Thüringer), Van Mingeroet (Mitsubishi), Chmielewski (Mroz) and Schäfermeier (3C). Hess led out the sprint having almost lapped the peloton up the road.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0003-7.jpg

Hess was the strongest as he claimed victory today.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0004-8.jpg

I finished 7th in the pack and overall 14th, but I’m too worried about that. Now I just want time to go by so I can take part in Ringerike GP where me and Niki will be our team captains. That will take place from June 4 – 8.

It's possible. Actually, it's very easy to change teams with the editor. There's a guide for it in the DB-forum somewhere. Thread was opened by me.

Anyway, this looks really promising - like your CSC-story. And here's a warning: If the team is not already signed up for Het Volk, don't sign up for it. It will make the game crash Wink

I could use that guide now actually but I can't seem to find it if anyone could link it our advice me about what do, it would be lovely Pfft

Ringerike GP – Stage 1

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0014-3.jpg

The first stage of this Norwegian stage race. Niki Østergaard will be our team leader here and I will be his luxury teammate, the rest of the team is Stevenson, Mørkøv, Kristiansen and Schiøler. My form is quite poor but I still hope I can do something for Niki in the finales. Our sponsors wants us to finish in the top 5 in this race.

Stevenson, Mørkøv, Schiøler and Kristiansen did a good job at the front of the pack all day.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0006-8.jpg

With 25 kilometres to go the early break was reeled in.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0007-9.jpg

Me and Niki made our way to the front just before the climb to the finish and we were leading the pack as we could see the the last kilometre kite up the road.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0009-7.jpg

I punched forward with Niki in my wheel to set him up.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0010-10.jpg

And Niki was very strong as he surged into the lead and gain a small advantage immediately.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0011-8.jpg

Niki took a great win and I managed to hold off the other riders as I just held on to secure a great 1-2 for us.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0012-6.jpg

So a very good day as I managed to set up Niki to claim the leader’s jersey so I’m really happy with myself. The rest of the team also did a good job before the climb, so we did very very good today.

Ringerike GP – Stage 2

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0022-2.jpg

It’s flat today but a small climb very close to the finish could make my chances bigger as my opponents will definitely suffer more here than I will. But I will have to pace myself though as my main objective is to look after Niki and make sure he gets through okay today.

Today’s TV break consisted of three riders.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0015-7.jpg

But Stevenson, Mørkøv, Kristiansen and Schiøler worked very hard at the front and with 25 kilometres to go the race was all back together.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0016-6.jpg

On the small rise before the finish Niki led me to the front to try and set me up as he knew he didn’t have the speed to compete in the sprint finish.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0018-4.jpg

Designa Køkken came scorching on the left hand side though and got into a solid lead right away as Niki’s lead out wasn’t very powerful.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0019-5.jpg

But the Designa riders wouldn’t hold on as yesterday’s 3rd place, D’Angelo of P-Nivo race his way past me and directly into the lead with a CCC rider in his wheel.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0020-3.jpg

And D’Angelo claimed the win and also the leader’s jersey. He’s on the same time as Niki but as he won today he’s been awarded the jersey. We’re not too worried though as we’re positive that Niki will be the stronger rider on the next three hilly stages.
