The good news is that this could provide some rivalry within the team, so more entertainment
I'll give members who are interested 48 more hours to join before I'll allow people to create a second rider.

Biography/Character description: Coming from former Odfjell Dev Team of ING Team, Björn Arvid ran out of his luck when he hit the World Tour. The training was too tough, he couldn't compete with the level of stress and racing. Maybe his move was a year too soon.
You'd think he move to a lower level to get accustomed to this new challenge but instead Team Aegon picked him up since Arvid was fairly known by then in the dutch scene. Some dutch fans have made memes ouf of his constant rants, as he struggled up many of the hills and kept cursing on the damn stage makers. He likes to go in breakaways though when it ends up with him getting some camera time to greet his family, otherwise he prefers to save himself at the end of the peloton. Mostly he likes to get paid.
He is still unbelieveably little rider in Bettini proportions, however he has grown a mighty beard since the days of Team Odfjell.

Biography/Character description: Eventhough he is already 29 at the start of the season, this is his first year as pro cyclist. All throughout his youth he was a keen cyclist, performing well at national level, eventually leading to a contract offer from US Postal when he was in his late teens. Having also been a good academic, he had the choice between turning pro and studying at Columbia University. He opted for the latter and went on to study and to teach English/American Literature, all the while competing with and later running the universitys cycling team. One night while out with friends in Manhattan, he met Jos Leemans on a chance encounter, spent the night at the bar with him, listening to his tales of life in the peleton. After beer upon beer upon beer, Bill made a spur of the moment decision that changed his life: He'd try to turn pro. The next morning, upon seeing that the idea even appealed to him when sober, he asked for a sabbatical from his job as Professor, packed his bag, and flew to Amsterdam with Jos that evening.
He is very used to the flat and sometimes bumpy roads around New York City, so it's only logical that that's where his main skills lie. He is also a decent chronoman, but is terrible in the high mountains and also poor in stage races. He doesn't have anything that would guarantee him success in the races he started, so he worked on his attacking to gain some victories. After a dozen years of doing so, he's fairly good at it, so whenever he is not needed to help Jos (which was his main ambition for joining the team) he can try his luck with an attack.

Heya, just stumbled upon this thread and I'd be glad to join if possible
First Name: Bas
Last Name: van Bemmel
Date of Birth: 7.11.1989
Nationality, Region if applicable: The Netherlands, Gelderland

REC: 74
Biography/Character description:
Being born to relatively poor parents, life wasn't all that easy for young Bas. His father was never able to stay with one company for a long time, so Bas and his family had to move every few years. This also meant that the young boy was never able to become good friends with people of his age. He was always the "odd" one out. Eventually this made Bas feel he needed to try harder. He always felt he had to overcompensate. Hence, in order to "fit in", he always "went along" with whatever the people wanted to do around him. All the young people always wanted to become the heros. Bas was not one of those. He admired most the support characters that were able to throw away their own interests to help the main character win. This was what he wanted. A role in the shadows. Acceptance. Harmony.
Despite being accepted in his circle of friends, he still felt different. And due to the fact that his family often had to move, young Bas never played any team sports, as he didn't want to let his teammates down by leaving. Due to the relative poverty of his parents, they were never able to give him much. However, when Bas was 7 years old, his father had found work in a racing cycle shop, and was able to gift young Bas a racing cycle (which he had gotten 50% off) as a christmas bonus. Thus, as he grew up, Bas spent more and more time on his bicycle. It was one of the few things he genuinely loved doing, and it made him feel better whenever he was down. Since his parents weren't able to take him on holidays, Bas soon took matters in his own hand and he and his bicycle were touring across Europe whenever he had school holidays. He took a tent and bare necessities with him so he wouldn't have to spend money on hotels.
Ultimately, Bas developed a considerable talent for the sport. Owing to his many travels, he was quite comfortable on all sorts of terrain. One day, his father told him of a scouting race that a certain Team Aegon would be having. Apparently they were looking for talented dutch riders. Having nothing better to do (he had just finished university and was unsure of what to do in the future), young Bas decided to attent. He wasn't sure what to hope for, but making a living from cycling seemed interesting. Plus, the peloton would be big enough to "disappear" within the masses...
Concerning his ability:
It'd be cool if he could be considered a jack-of-trades. I think he could be of help to all kinds of riders in all kinds of territories, though never as a "super-domestique". Perhaps, given his story, it'd be interesting to let him have somewhat decent time-trial skills, since he was always, always riding alone - Also, since he'd be 25 years old, I don't feel his stats would be too crazy. Please do let me know if changes would be necessary, and in what way
*edit: Raised the recovery stat after having PN'd to Selwink to make his it seem more realistic, given that Bas toured Europe for weeks and weeks on his bike

24 hours left to apply before I'll open up some spots for members who already have a rider. Also keep in mind there's still a role as a key domestique available, as well as a climber spot.

I'll also go into more detail about the setup of the team. My best careers so far have been with teams which 'lack' a strong GC rider. I've enjoyed the majority of my careers with teams like Giant and Orica, where I would contend for wins in the classics, while stagehunting in the GTs. This setup is also the way I want this team to be set up.

Biography/Character description: Tjeu Faber, a boy born in the Netherlands grow up rich but was left by his family due to the work of his father and his mother already bussy with her friends and other son's, Tjeu Faber was the one who got the least attention at home and tried to search for a sport to do. but as the family changed their home location everytime he had to search something he could do on his own. without much help he found out that there was a race called Tour de France, where they raced the last few stages next to their home in the alps. everytime he wanted to watch the race from the sides, but his family said not to go anywere, as they weren't able to find him so fast in the crowdy people at the race. he was forced to watch it on TV, this was his big dissapointment and turnpoint at his life, because he liked it so much and his parents didn't want to let him go to these races, he wanted to became a cyclist. so the next morning he went to the cyclingstore and bought a bike which let him climb up the road smoothly. his emotions are still sensitive, but he cycles like an angel
i assume this isn't too overpowered, considering he has low hill or acceleration to follow attacks from contador and such. |

I will decline him, as I was first going to open domestique spots. Please wait for a sign before posting... Also, he's way too OP for such a secondary role
So, for everyone who wants a second rider: please start with a domestique, and preferably a not very strong one.
Everyone else is also still free to join, for those without a rider choice of a vacant spot is free, so this includes the better roles
