[PT] Metinvest - Dacia | 2015
SotD
You end up having a very nice TTT setup, although I doubt you are able to really threaten Oz. Two 80TT riders supplemented with 4 75/76TT guys is a nice start though. In the past I had 8 riders with 76-78TT, but that was not strong enough to be competitive against those with 80+TTers and some minor TTers to fill up (72-73).

Thanks guys, we are not aiming to challenge Oz in TTTs throughout the season, that would be crazy, but i hope to be among top5 TTT teams, in some races hopefully even top3, because of our goals.

Three loanees complete the squad!

As the PT team, Metinvest opened the door to three loanees from three different squads and these will complete the 2015 roster. We are happy to help in developing their careers and to establish a friendly relationship with their managers.

With these last three additions, we will tackle the PT with 24 riders wide roster. That should be enough to fill in all the races with complete team and still not too many to give everybody enough opportunities.

Jonathan Salinas: 75MO, 73RES, 72ACC
Contracted to: Azteca-NBCSN
Jonathan is a first ever rider from Venezuela to wear a Metinvest jersey and we are happy to negotiate his temporary services with Azteca. He is a real climbing talent and thus should be one of the main guys to watch over Aleksandr Pluchkin in toughest races. Certainly a risky and hard job for a youngster, but on the other hand great experience for the rider.

Andris Vosekalns: 73MO, 76FIGHT
Contracted to: Evonik - ELKO
Andris is another climbing talent joining us on loan and unlike Salinas, he is coming from our focus region, Latvia to be precise. He was one of our targets last transfer season, but he decided to sign with Evonik instead. As usually Metinvest management decided not to fight with Evonik, but rather enter the path of cooperation, which saw another latvian guys Liepins and Smirnovs joining german-latvian team on permanent move and Andris Vosekalns moving the other way on one year loan. He should strengten our climbing squad further and gain valuable PT experience.

Philip Lavery: 74HIL, 75ACC, 75FIG, 73STA
Contracted to: Bank of Ireland
During the last hours of the transfer season, we managed to negotiate one more loan deal, this time with irish team sponsored by the national bank. Lavery is punchy talent, who has an agressive riding style and thus should fit well into our hilly squad of young guns with big hearts. Be ready to see him attacking in biggest hilly races in cycling calendar!

So here is our complete roster for 2015, lets survive in PT!

NCs revealed!

Metinvest - Dacia team was always known for its amount of national champions in the squad. At one point it was almost a dozen if you count both TT and road race national champion jerseys.

For 2015, it changes and you will have a chance to see only two NC jerseys on shoulders of Metinvest riders, but both are from our important focus countries:

Marlen Zmorka - TT national champion
Marlen is our upcoming star for the races against the clock and in last days of 2014 season he was able to get an ukrainian TT national jersey for the first time in his career. It is safe to say that it is one of the many to come for him, as he has no real competition in this regard.

Jersey is pretty similar to our main jersey for 2015, with darkened colours and small details changed. You will have a chance to see Marlen riding in these colours almost in every TT stage/race in PT calendar and rumours say in one of the GTs too.

Spoiler
i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh579/aidanvn13/met_ukr_zpso9mz0d6l.png

Nicolae Tanovitchii - RR national champion
Our second and last national champion comes from Moldova and surprisingly it is not the star rider Aleksanr Pluchkin, but his younger colleague Nicolae Tanovitchii, who will were the national colours second year in the row.

Nicolae is rider with great attacking spirit and big cycling heart, so dont be surprised to see him in every second beak in races where he will take part in. Be it GT or hilly classic, this guy will be on the run and hunting a win. Lets hope this amazing jersey will help him to promote both the team and his wonderful nation.

Big thanks for all the jerseys goes to our lead designer and great guy, Aidan!

Will be very nice to see Lavery in with your attacking hills squad, I sure hope he attacks as much as I'd expect him to! Smile

Avin Wargunnson
@Dippo: I hope so too, he should have free role as the attacker in majority of hilly races.

Leaders calendars revealed! 1st part

Aleksandr Pluchkin

Vuelta a Espana
Tour de France

Yeah, some of you may wonder why we are paying a 1.550 000 euros in wages for someone who will ride just two races in 2015 for Metinvest. Thing is, that these are two of the most prestigious races in the cycling calendar and it should suit Pluchkin and his abilities perfectly. Aleksandr is on the quest to finally win the Tour. Will this be the year?

Mikhail Ignatiev

Omloop Het Volk
Paris - Nice
Milan - San Remo
Chrono des Herbiers
Giro d' Italia
Amstel Gold Race
Fleche Wallone
Criterium du Dauphine Libere
GP Moscow
Tour of Northern Europe
Copenhagen-Malmo TTT
Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha
Tour of Tasmania

Our russian beast will tackle much more races than Pluchkin in 2015 PT calendar. Apart from obvious TT classics and TT heavy races with some hills in it, Mikhail will have a chance to compete in one GT, Giro d Italia. He should be the team leader for this race and key part of our TTT lineup there, which openes the Giro. He is not going for GC, but should be a stage hunter and lead-out man for Andrea Guardini.

He will also ride few hilly or flat classics, where he could be able to show his attacking spirit and fast finishing kick. Domestic GP Moscow is his main personal classics goal.

Interesting to see him riding Omloop Het Volk. I really don't know what to expect from that TTT.

I have my fingers crossed for Pluchkin to win one of these Grand Tours for you mate!

Well, Omloop is a big risk, i am also not sure what can happen in that TTT, but i basically went with Nolf + TTT lineup iirc. So if some luck will be on our side, it could lead to successful race for us, or maybe complete disaster, who knows. Pfft

Thanks for the crossed fingers, these two GTs will make or break our season, and possible GC win would be the best thing ever for our project. Smile

Leaders calendars revealed! 2nd part

Andrea Guardini

Tour of Qatar
Tirreno - Adriatico
Milan - San Remo
Lisbon Classic
Giro d' Italia
Vuelta a Espana
Tour de Suisse
Deutschland Tour
Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha

Andrea is currently the fastest man in Metinvest colours and that means leadership in majority of purely flat races as Qatar, P-KV-P or Lisbon Classic. Apart from that, Andrea will tackle the two GTs during the 2015 and will try to win a stage there. We know that he wont be most likely able to finish either of these two toughest races, so he will aim for the first week stages in both.

Eduard Grosu

Paris - Nice
Milan - San Remo
Lisbon Classic
Ronde van Vlaanderen
Paris - Roubaix
Tour of California
Strada Appia Antica
Tour de France
Clasica San Sebastian - HC
Volta a Portugal - HC
Vuelta a Colombia
Tour of Northern Europe
Tour of Beijing - HC

Our romanian wonderkid Eduard Grosu made another step forward prior to this year and he is almost there in elite punchy sprinters category. He should ride the wide variety of races in 2015, some of them in leaders role (especially tough stage races where we dont expect pure sprinters) and some of them as helper for our cobbled guys or lead out man for Guardini/Ignatiev.

Tour de France is his main goal of the season, we expect him to fight for top5 in point jersey competition in the end.

Special category of races for him will be HC continental races, where PT teams will be allowed to start for the first time in recent history. Eduard is just on the verge of being allowed to take part in these and his hill/sprint combo could hopefully lead to some stage win(s) in races like Beijing or Vuelta a Portugal.

2016 Development post !

Hello fans!

We were so busy kicking asses in the PT and winning GTs left and right, that there was 0 time to bring the news to the web. Apologies to those who expected usual race reports and articles, but we found out that running a successful PT team takes out all of our time. Hopefully our results were so nice, that everybody is aware of them and it has not discouraged the fans from following us! Smile

As the season is coming to its closing stages, we gladly bring you the annual development post, which is this time the most interesting one in teams history. The long term roster bulding plan is almost finished and many riders made the final steps to become the important part in the future of the team. Here it is:

Grosu is one of my favourite MG riders. He reminds me of my own rider, Redecker. Except Grosu is like a 100 times better. Pfft

No Ukrainian GC leader here, but some very solid all round guys. You've got the perfect base now for many seasons to come. Sink some money into Karnulin and you have a guy who could top 10 a grand tour for Ukraine. Nice Cool

Yeah Karnulin should easily be able to get GC top 10s with a bit of training. Making him 82MO would do the trick.

I hope some money will be put into Tanovitchii Smile

Grosu and Zmorka are amazing talents.

I want to know where your magic money tree is Pfft

But yeah, some really nice talents here. Sri Lanka looks enviously at Ukraine as an example of what it hopes to become as a cycling nation over the next few years Wink

I do both those things - well maybe not the goals part this season... - and I never have that luxury. Avin probably will as long as he has Pluchkin though Pfft

Avin Wargunnson
Thanks a lot guys for your input and praise of the talent pool. Smile

There is no PT worthy leader yet from Ukraine sadly, but as said, Karnulin can hopefully become one in the future. Then again he will be 27 when being first time available for training, but there is no other guy i can train to put ukrainian racing on top.

But i like the depth much more now, especially in climbing and punchy department.

Also i will probably have shitloads of money thanks to goals and maybe some sold riders, but none of these maxed guys is available for training yet, which sucks a bit.

So, who would like to see Pluchkin with 81TT? Pfft

And i am not sure if i will ever have the money for training Karnulin, because my main goal for next five-six years is to make Grosu like 75 hill and 85sprint, so Demare can sit in the corner and cry, besides extreme hilly races. Join the anti-Demare league today and you can have a free Grosu bobblehead in your post box just tommorow! Pfft
