Nasr crashed into the back of Wolff today, probably the biggest news.
I've been dealing with some medical stuff this morning and wasn't watching. Was it just straight up Nasr's fault, or did Wolff stop short/take a bad line?
Didn't see it myself. All i know is Nasr went into the back of Wolff at Turn 5, but coming from behind the emphasis is on that driver to not hit the one in-front so probably Nasr's fault

Apparently it was the other way around, albeit with Wolff claiming she was sticking to her line and Nasr cut her off on an overtake.
Wolff was driving the Williams as part of her new deal as test driver this year and completed over 80 laps in the morning before the clash with Nasr. She explained that she was sticking to her line on the entry to Turn 5 and Nasr cut back across on her as he overtook.
"I was on my outlap [from the pits] and I guess he was already on his flying lap and I was coming into braking zone for Turn 5," she explained. "I stayed on my line and he came across and his rear right hit my front left. It's very difficult to understand how and why it happened, but it did. I think it's on video for everyone to see, but the facts are that I stayed on line and he came across and his rear hit my front. It was an unnecessary coming together."

Ah, i was just reporting what i read
Also today Marussia agreed on some things to pull themselves out of administration. Apparently there's a new consortium of sponsors and the team might actually appear this season as Manor F1. Still a fair ways from racing but it's more than Caterham at the moment

Fernando Alonso has been taken to the hospital in Barcelona after a nasty accident. He was 'conscious' according to McLaren during the arrival and he will be checked for injuries. The testing session is cancelled after the crash.

Crash itself wasn't that bad, perhaps he fainted or something? Certainly fits the reports from post crash. Session not cancelled though, back up and running now. Hoping for a quick recovery for Alonso, and also some better luck for McLaren soon. |

Two bits of news. Minor one is that Force India will miss the first day at the last test. Doesn't bode well for them this year, which is a shame.
And Manor is apparently gunning to get their 2015 car up in running, if not in time for Melbourne, then for soon after. They just hired Will Stevens as one of their drivers. Alonso will not be happy. |

Marussia has been included on official 2015 FIA entry list. Their first driver is Will Stevens, while the other driver not had been confirmed.

Moving away from the completely unsurprising Maldonado crash (), testing is now over. No more track action until Australia. Time to dig into the data and make some wild extrapolations

Alonso will NOT race Melbourne! On advice from doctors the Spaniard will skip the race. Kevin Magnusse steps into the seat. Alonso will be back for Malaysia

Question for folks who have been following the sport longer and might likely have better news sources than I. Is there any rumblings on what Sauber will do if Van der Garde wins his case? Presumably the Melbourne decision only pertains to this specific race, but he apparently won arbitration in Switzerland as well. Which of Nasr and Ericsson would they drop, and what would happen going forward? |

From what i understand it would just mean Sauber would have to pay Van der Garde some form of compensation. It would be nigh on impossible to force them to sack Nasr or Ericsson who do have contracts for the season, it would be a brutal legal battle to get to that point.
If Van der Garde somehow wins his way into a Sauber seat in the Australian court, expect an instant hit back from Nasr or Ericsson, who both have serious financial backing. And decision is going to run for a while longer regardless of the decision tomorrow.
It's pretty messy. Both sides flinging accusations and arguments around. Both kind of have valid points and both are also bullsh*ting to highest degree.

basically, GvdG claims to have a contract, while Nasr and Ericsson certainly have a contract. of course everybody knows that Nars and Ericsson bring more e money and Nasr is better then GvdG while Ericsson is arguable equal (which says more about GvdG then the other two).
whatever happens, this could be the death of Sauber

van der Garde wins in court in Australia, the court saying he should drive in Australia in place of either Nasr or Ericsson. Now come the sticky part.... Sauber are kind f*cked either way...
Race vdG and face legal action from Nasr/Ericsson. Race Nasr and Ericsson and face legal action from vdG and be potentially held in contempt of court.
If vdG wins it could seriously be the end of Sauber. They'd lose the sponsor money of Nasr/Ericsson and have to face legal fines and fees. That's a serious hole punched into their already strained budget.
