Alonso's new team looks like a no go. Unless he buys off a whole team at this point it doesn't look good.

Looks like Tinkoff Saxo are changing who supplies Contador's beef . They've just announced a new sponsorship with Unicarve. More about it here.

Such a shame, but yeah, looks like all the licenses are bought up. I really wanted to see him do well too. Maybe he can snatch a CT team? It's not the best, but, he can't get PT.

I would call it exact opposite of shame, these are great news.
Because i have some cynical feeling on his clean view of the sport...

Hour Record!
First the UCI have changed the rules https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/new-u...our-record so that now you can use Aero bikes, tri-bars, disc wheels etc. It reverses the 2000 change where it was stated only Traditional bikes could be used, like Merckx did in 1972.
This means Cancellara has suspends his record attempt indefinitely https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/cance...definitely while he and Trek Factory Racing reassess the situation and re-plan.
Finally a new challenger has appeared! Bradley Wiggins, fresh from his confirmation as classics rider, now looks to continue his domination of cycling disciplines with the former Olympic gold medalist starting to consider a challenge on the record https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/wiggi...our-record

Wiggins was waiting for that rule change as he has been eying of the Hour for a while now... Wern't Trek designing Cancellara a bike that fitted the previous rules? What a waste of time on all fronts!

Indeed. What a lack of consistency from the UCI.
Still, I found that the previous rules were going too far back in time. Or if they wanted to stick to it, then they should have banned tri bars, disc wheels, and carbon from road (TT) bikes as well. I'm not sure I'd dislike it, btw.
It still makes sense that the record can be set with bikes usable for track events.
But if those bikes are now allowed again, who has the world record and how much is it ? I guess "superman" positions are not allowed again, which would give the record to Boardman (before Obree cracked it and CB cracked it again) ? And all that was in the EPO years (from Moser onwards : Indurain, Rominguer, Boardman, not sure about Obree, Sosenka).

It's gone back to Sosenka. Boardman and Obree used non-conformist track bikes so don't count and instead are classed as "Best Hour Performance" rather than the "Hour Record" of Sosenka

Yet he was another chemical experience himself.
Whilst I'm fascinated by the event, its essence is corrupt by doping.

Well, we can now add xenon and argon gases to the WADA list of prohibited substances.

Quoted for truth, as Sosenka is maybe the biggest dopehead in history of czech cycling. That would be nice to be beaten by another dopehead in Wiggins, wouldnt it?

Yeah all I can ever associate it with is Armstrong using it as an excuse for meeting with Ferrari.

I'm watching the presentation of the route for the 2014 Arctic Race of Norway and it looks great, the race will also finish in my town!
But the presentation it self... oy vey... it's as amateurish as it could be. Did they get their speeches handed out to them 2 seconds before they went up? You're on national TV, LOOK UP, FOR FECKS SAKE! And you, they guy running the whole thing, whoever the hell you are; calm down, atleast try to make it sound like somebody ISN'T holding a gun to your head, and please stand still!
And why has the whole thing been in norwegian, when the last guy to get up their openes by saying, in english (!); "since this is an international press conference, I'll do it in english". If it's an international press conference, WHY HAS EVERYTHING BEEN IN NORWEGIAN?!
And learn how to pronounce "Arctic Race of Norway", it's not! That! Freaking! HARD!

There's Sosenka who, as Avin said, is/was a friggin' dopehead.
Boardman who all of men beat Festina's Dream Team in Tour de Romandie back in the years.
Indurain and Rominger, who both, I believe, worked with Ferrari.
Francesco Moser, "prepared" by Conconni (who's both a great scientist and a guy who doped his riders), that I can relate to the first serious blood transfusions to enhance with performances.
Merckx has been caught several times.
Anquetil said he wouldn't bother peeing as everyone knew what the result would be.
Coppi who was also known for abusing amphetamines.
All the names I can relate the hour world record with have a heavy history of doping. If Wiggins tops them all... you'll know what it means (for those who don't already know). |

Bad news for anyone who's fond of cyclocross.
Niels Albert retires from cyclocross due to cardiac arrythmia.
Damn. Never was a fan of him but I feel sad for him.
