Small Pais Vasco Update:

In Stage 4 of Pais Vasco unfortunately Franco was our best rider in 12th place. However this was still a strong result. In the meantime a strong performance saw Evegeny Shalunov take 15th and move to 29th in the GC and with an upcoming timetrial who knows what he can do.

Pais Vasco Finished

Stage 5 and Stage 6 were not the most productive for the Androni Team with no noticeable results.

In the Final GC Pellizotti took 13th. This is an alright result but must be improved on in the other Stage Races and in the Giro. The team effort however, was strong with a 4th Place for Sella from the breakaway and a 15th from Shalunov in one of the Hardest climbing stages. The team has showed promise and we look forward to the weeks to come.

Tour of Turkey: A good start to begin with

Ciao Fans,

It's racing time for me. Let's forget ab out Brabatnse Pijl. Cobblestones, who cares about them when you have the intensity of a sprint finish. I am finally in my area of supremacy and you fans can cheer for me.

I went to Turkey alongside my teammates to achieve a stage win and things are looking good. My legs are definitely capable of performing on the highest level. Stage 1 concluded in a bunch sprint and despite not having a perfect train, I achieved a third place. Coquard and Modolo just were tiny bit faster but if it'd had been for another 50 meters, I am confident the victory would have been mine.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0587_zps80feebc8.jpg

Hopefully things will continue in such a fashion. Surprisingly I havn't seen any turkish fans of mine on the road, however I think once they see my class and are amazed by me, there will soon be one or two fanclubs in honour of me.

So long,
The Calzone

Tour of Turkey- Stage 1

We have a goal of a stage win here in Turkey which will be tough as many other teams have the same goal. Calzone is our hope here and we hope he performs well.

The first stage is a nice flat one which should end in a sprint, the favourites being Coquard, Modolo and Calzone (in his first pro race).
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0573_zps4d3976e2.jpg

At the only sprint point Calzone takes the 2 points available after the two breakaway riders. He obviously wants the points jersey.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0579_zps4533a58f.jpg

The break was later caught and with a few kilometres remaining the Androni train had formed nicely.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0582_zps1e6a43f7.jpg

The train was still going strong as Felline moved to let Gavazzi through.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0583_zpsd68c8783.jpg

With 300m to go Calzone leaves Gavazzi's wheel but has he left it too late?
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0585_zps62b1f4f0.jpg

In his first pro race Calzone takes 3rd behind the other two favourites. A good start to the tour and it can certainly improve as we uncover the ability of the young Italian.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0587_zps80feebc8.jpg

Gavazzi and Felline also finished strongly in 8th and 11th. Good signs for the team going into the next few stages.

The Legend of Calzone: Tour of Turkey, Stage 2

"Carlo Calzone confirms his outstanding talent by coming in victorious at the second stage of Tour of Turkey."

-Gazzetta dello Sport.

Yes, la Gazzetta is right up there on the hype train, and I surely delivered. It was a thrilling stage from Alanya to Antalaya and one that suited me. It was entirely flat and I enjoyed my spell in the peloton, while 3 riders sweated upfront in the breakaway. Idiots. I don't need to attack of course.

However, they came close to actually thinking about the stage win, but I was just too strong. Belkin were fighting on the other side of the road, and Pelucchi and Modolo, some lesser italian talents, tried to snatch away my lead-outs Felline wheel. Fabio and Mattia did an excellent job and I finished it off in perfection as can be expected of me.

i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0603_zpsf4eeeb5d.jpg

Obviously the coach should know by now that I am here to deliver and I'm eager for the Giro. There is no place for excuses. Felline, Gavazzi and I really make for a great team. It's a shame to split it up for some mountain climbers at the Giro. How dull.

Getting this win and completing the team's first goal is just a bit of a bonus. The real prize were turkish girls lining up to get my autograph on their boobs.

Gosh, I'm just the best.

Tour of Turkey- Stage 2

After yesterdays flat stage 1 we are greeted with another flat stage to follow it. A stage which suits Calzone.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0593_zpsa9d4fd2f.jpg

As normal there was a breakaway but it was caught.
Our team train was up there at the end and looked the strongest with the Europcar train looking weak it looked like we would only get competition from Belkin.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0600_zpsebe0875c.jpg

At 1km to go Gavazzi was still leading out Calzone who was ready to make his charge for the line. Coquard was in a decent position and Bos had got himself into a better position to contest this time.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0601_zps3648af15.jpg

With only a couple hundred metres to go Calzone was ahead but a strong Frenchman and a hopeful Dutchie were coming up behind, can Calzone hold on?
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0602_zps4d037dd3.jpg

And he does it!!
Calzone just holds on for victory ahead of Coquard and Bos.
i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag38/Abbiati123/Album%20For%20Albums/EPIC%20Races/PCM0603_zpsf4eeeb5d.jpg

Carlo Calzone, after taking a strong 3rd in Stage 1 does it here in Stage 2. Accomplishing our goal, taking the teams second win of the season and taking his first as a professional, and it certainly won't be his last. All we can hope for now is more wins in the stages to come.

And we can not forget the fantastic effort from Gavazzi and Felline who against 'stronger' opponents delivered their man to the line and managed 8th and 12th, securing needed points for the team.

Tour of Turkey: Stage 5; Calzone in the mix

Another decent enough day in Turkey. It wasn't great because if it was great I would have won. But I came in third and I'm leading the points classification currently. Daniele Bennati and Sacha Modolo were the tiny bit faster than me. Maybe I shouldn't have celebrated my victory for 2 days straight? I still have a hangover.

Apparently the first turkish fan club has been founded for me by now. They are so easily impressed by my skills and looks. This is merely a preparation for the hype that will surround me in Italy.

Race Update- Giro del Trentino

Medium Goal: Top 5

Stage 1
Stage 1 was a hilly, mountainous stage which could definitely shake up the GC. Nothing from the Androni Team. Pellizotti finished comfortably in the same group as everyone else.

Stage 2
It was a flat TTT. Not ideal for the team but we will try and limit our losses. After a decent provisional time the team finished well in 10th losing only 28 seconds to Saxo.

Stage 3
We had a 222km Mountainous stage. Sella got in the breakaway and picked up some KOM points. The Big 3 finished well ahead of everyone else in the end.
Pellizotti was good and finished 7th with Konig and Bardet. He moves to 8th in the GC less than a minute behind 4th. i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0342_zps7d232692.jpg

Stage 4
Another mountainous stage but not as bad as stage 5 will be.
Sella got in the break again i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0344_zpse84c34ff.jpg

He and the other 3 escapees let Anacona attack and he had 15secs with 10km to go.
i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0360_zps66c5a889.jpg

Verdugo went as well, Sella wouldn't follow :/ i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0363_zpsd5807db7.jpg

Sella wasn't going to catch them as they went under the 1km banner. i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0365_zpse40a40e3.jpg

Sella finished fast but Anacona held on for 1st and Verdugo 2nd. Sella didn't do too badly finishing in 3rd. i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/EPIC%20Reports/PCM0367_zpsb0effedc.jpg

Pellizotti finished 8th (2nd in the favourites group) 25 seconds behind Nibali.
In the GC Pellizotti moves up to 5th only 3 seconds behind Konig and 13 seconds ahead of 6th place Evans. Hopefully he can hold on to the Top 5 and make it 2/3.
