The Battle of 24 Cyclists | Stage 21 + Review
LLDS
That's a great crazy story.
Well done ! Smile
If I may suggest an idea : making the story for 48 instead of 24 : 24 "couples" GC man + sprinter / fighter rider. It will have more action for intermediate sprints and flat stages. And some chances for breakaways.

A small hill at the finish, what could that bring?

RACE

186km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0001_zps321bcad6.jpg
The first intermediate sprint comes already 10 kilometers after the start, and it's won by Nibali.

126km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0002_zpsf468010f.jpg
And he also takes the first mountain sprint.

15km to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0004_zps2dd9bc25.jpg
What's this? An attack when it's flat? Wiggins is doing something, but what? He wins the intermediate sprint with a 30 second lead.

9000m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0005_zpsbe066394.jpg
Unfortunately, he's caught just before the mountain sprint. Fuglsang (wins the mountain sprint), Mollema and Van den Broeck are next, but they can't get a gap.

8000m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0006_zpse6c3a6ea.jpg
Oh no, Vincenzo Nibali has crahed. He can get back to his bike and continue the race, but he will lose time.

7000m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0007_zps06afb69d.jpg
And some more surprising news, because Froome has been dropped by the peleton.

2000m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0008_zps70c11ebe.jpg
It will be an uphill mass sprint without those 2. Mollema and Horner are the ones up front now.

1000m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0009_zps6347885e.jpg
1 kilometer to go and the road isn't flat anymore. Hesjedal seems to have the best papers now.

500m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0011_zpsebfd9085.jpg
It's Hesjedal vs. Pinot!

0m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%209/PCM0012_zps351b6d92.jpg
It's the young Frenchman Thibaut Pinot who wins the stage! Hesjedal is second and Sanchez came close, but has to settle with third. Froome looses 1 minute and 15 seconds, Nibali 2 minutes and 50 seconds. GC-leader Rodriguez will be happy about that.

Another stage winner! The GC looks to be finalising but much can change.

Strange Froome is the only rider dropped (who didn't crash), I hope Konrad didn't control Froomebot to make him finish out the back.

Great win for Pinot. Too bad Nibbles crashed so late in the stage. Frown

You'd guess a mass sprint.

The only mountain sprint of today is won by Valverde.

The first intermediate sprint is also won by Valverde.

And the second intermediate sprint is also won by Valverde.

No attacks today, so it comes down to a mass sprint again. Evans is leading the peleton towards the finish line.

500m to go
i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2010/PCM0005_zps00ba7462.jpg
Mollema and Costa come out of his wheel. Fuglsang is flying at the left side of the road.

But there can only be one winner. And that winner is Bauke Mollema, his second victory this Vuelta. Costa finishes in second place and Hesjedal is third.

RACE

The first rider which actually participates in the race (Konrad does not really participate) is Ivan Basso. He is already more than 7 minutes behind in the GC, reducing his chances of winning the race dramatically. The time he sets here is 1 hour, 3 minutes and 4 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0002_zps25e9c91e.jpg
Tejay van Garderen comes right after him. He finished third in the prologue, so he is a favourite here. He beats the Italian's time with 22 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0005_zps49c99451.jpg
Neither Pinot nor Sanchez can beat his time, but Vincenzo Nibali is rocketing across the route. He's 1 minute and 8 seconds faster as TJ. The new best time: 1 hour, 1 minute and 34 seconds.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0006_zps5f7368e2.jpg
Bradley Wiggins won the prologue, and is the favourite for today's stage. He narrowly beats the Italian's time, just 5 seconds faster.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0017_zps6679db47.jpg
Uran, Evans, Fuglsang, Costa, Scarponi, Roche, Horner, Van den Broeck and Quintana are all miles away from that time. Alberto Contador is also 53 seconds slower as the Brit. Next are Kreuziger, Betancur and Mollema, but they can all bite the dust.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0021_zps6155d62f.jpg
Here's the other Brit. Chris Froome is the main rival for Wiggo for the stage victory, but he's 50 seconds slower.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0022_zpse6d6d0b5.jpg
Ryder Hesjedal is the currently 4th in the GC, but will be overtaken by Froome after a not so good TT.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0023_zps56a5d764.jpg
The biggest surprise of the Vuelta so far is Richie Porte. He can't match his teammate (irl, they are opponents here), but manages to keep his 3th place in the GC.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0024_zpsa0445c22.jpg
Alejandro Valverde rides a very good TT, and will finish 3th, 42 seconds behind Wiggins. He's 1 minute and 10 seconds behind the GC-leader, and we know he ain't that good TT-ist. Maybe he can overtake him?

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/The%20Battle%20of%2024%20Cyclists/Stage%2011/PCM0026_zps7c3982b0.jpg
Here is the answer. Red jersey Joaquim Rodriguez finishes in 1 hour, 2 minutes and 34 seconds. 23 seconds slower as Valverde, so he keeps his red jersey.
