Would anyone here be interested in a PCM Daily Chess Tournament? If I can find some players, I could organise one.

I suck, but I'd give it a go For some reason just remembered when I was 7, Bernard Tomic (Tennis) had a crush on my coach, so we played a doubles match and he said "This kid's amazing!" Hoping to continue Tennis one day.

Well he did get to the final of the Sydney International, as well as quarters of Wimbledon couple years ago before losing in 5 sets to Djokovic

I do Triathlons. And continuing the hopeless thing. I am hopeless ant triathlons. I can't ran for sh@! So I have to swim hard and ride fast only to get passed in the run.
Any ways to improve my run. It is actually making me want to quit

I also can't run (short distance) and it has literally cost me several chances to extremely further my football career. Most notable offers were from AC Milan and Sydney FC. I'm quite good at long distance though, and in my opinion, long strides and keeping your arms at right angles works very well. Also, what I have learnt, go hardest on the downhills - as long as you don't trip () you can gain serious ground.

If you're good at swimming and cycling, but are comparatively bad at running, that suggests three potential things :
- effort strategy problem. You're wasted when it comes to running, so other people pass you.
- you're too heavy, and it doesn't matter in swimming, and matters little in cycling if courses are mostly flat
- you have an output problem when running. Output as in energetic cost for running. It's calculated by dividing your VO2 max by your maximal aerobic speed. Yours is probably poor, good news is that it can be fixed.
So, how to fix it ? Re-learn to run. Do a lot of workout, think of your body position when you run, have the proper frequency for footsteps (90-95 on the flat, strangely similar to proper cycling - I know you triathlon guys enjoy it at 80), good arms movements, good stride angle when your feet leave the ground, raising your knees high enough, etc. How much is the ideal for all these parameters depends on the distance though. |

So what your saying is I have to forget how I run now and learn in a better technic. My technic is pretty crap at the moment so I agree with this. How do I relearn though. I read it and didn't really get what you mean by steps and stuff. I am very tall...192cm and quite thin so I don't know if that doesn't help or not.

Let's pick my own case as an example : I'm not a triathlete, as I'm very crap at swimming. There's not much to brag about my cycling talents, but let's say it's decent. I'm 10 times better at running than at swimming, yet my running skills don't compare to my cycling ones.
When I joined the local track & field club I used to run like I had always done, and that had gotten me half-decent results.
Of course much of the workouts were (are) pace specific, but my coach found what I always knew but never really admitted : I have a non efficient style.
To make a long story short, I tend to bend forward (my shoulders are forward, compared to my pelvis), I don't move my arms enough, nor raise my knees enough. Unlike people generally coming from triathlon, my frequency tends to be a little too high (rather 100 footsteps per minute).
Not everything has been fixed yet, and I am injured anyway, but, although the style doesn't seem natural, and one would think it wastes energy rather than the opposite, it actually makes it easier to maintain an elevated pace for a certain time.
It's hard to guess how you run without videos or pictures, but if you've got the VO2max and the endurance but not the pace, it's an efficiency problem.
I don't think being tall really matters, for most distance above 1500 m, which is the case for you and me, 85-90 footsteps (for one foot, so that's actually two steps) per minute seems to be the general consensus.
If you're in a club, maybe you should ask people who're good at running if they think there's something wrong with your running style. |

Alright. Thanks for the tips. I am going to use this. And try to teach myself how to run normally again

My soccer season has started great. We won our first game against the Public School for smart people 4-1. We beat our rivals 7-1, and we beat the team that is usually the best in our league 4-3. One kid on my team is waaay too good for our level and has 7 goals already
