I see your point Ian on V/d Poel, and you're right it could be like that.
On the other hand, you're sounding a lot like me at the start of 2013 when I said 'I think Froome has had his Gilbert year and will return to suck in 2013'
Maybe a bit of wishful thinking?

None at all. I like his style and his strength. I hope he can come to the sport and be the next World Champion, don't get me wrong.
I'm not a big nationalist, my favorite cyclo-crosses for the past and current season is Lars Van der Haar
It's just something we've seen before and might happen again. Once again I refer to Wellens. He was so, so strong, but always wanted to win with 2 minutes ahead. 4 seconds ahead was not enough. So he did that, but after 2 years his body was burned up.
Van der Poel should realize winning races at Junior level with 2 minutes ahead is not that important as building up slowly and then being able to win at the pros. |

About van der Poel. His trainer Christophe Roothooft believes he's already capable of top 10's between the pros. And the level of the U23's is incredibly high. (Unfortunately for the international aspect of the sport they are all Belgians + a few Dutch). |

At least in the junior ranks we have more international names, well i am obviously talking about Adam Toupalik here, i hope he can be the next czech star of the sport, we always had one in the decade (Simunek-old one,Stybar).
Also the young frenchies are looking talented.
About that Tabor race pics, i am incredibly sick and lazy, but i promise them this weekend.

The problem with the French is that most of them prefer a MTB or Road career.
The ones that do choose for cyclo-cross are not doing well. Jouffroy is always crashing and injured and Boulo hasn't done much yet in the pro ranks. Former French champion Duval even quit last year because he couldn't find a sponsor.
I hope the succes of Walsleben and Meisen can generate a bit of interest from Germany.
And Toupalik looks very promising too. The Czech U23 are okay. Nipl for instance looks like he can sometimes challenge the Belgians and Dutch.

True that with frenchies Willier, how can Jouffroy suck so much when he beated Sagan in the sprint for the world junior title in 2008? Look where he is and where Peter is.
As you said guys, at least the germans are doing good this year and future does not look bad for czechs either (Nipl, Boros, Toupalik).
Still, we will see 7-8 belgians and dutchies in the top10 forever.

I don't think that's a problem
Don't get me wrong, not in that way that I want the Belgians to rule cyclo-cross or whatever but I enjoy cyclo-cross so much because the sport stays relatively small. Part of the charm. It would change for the worse if it would become bigger, more money-obsessed. |

But i see it as the problem. Just kidding, i also like the sport somewhat closed to big market, it has the special flavor, also it is completely free of charges for the WC in Tabor for spectators, imagine that in another sport, or road,MTB cycling
About Jouffroy, this is great picture, look on Sagan there (with typical head down power style) being humiliated before the uphill sprint, few years after and we saw pictures like this, where the man celebrating was him on the road.

Any non-georestricted stream besides the ones on sports-livez that don't work yet?

Sorry for the late reaction. This site usually has livestreams, including of this afternoon's race in Gavere for the Superprestige.
Here's yesterday's result. Albert really strong, but he couldn't drop Nys who beat him in a sprint. Really fast race without too many obstacles.

Was rooting for Walsleben to finally get that big win he deserves. Unfortunately Nys was a little bit stronger. Overall a very nice cross on a very tough course.

Sanne Cant is once again too strong for the British women. Though many of the big names weren't participating like Marianne Vos, Katie Compton and Katerina Nash.
Elite Women
Wout Van Aert is on a roll after dominating this race for the 2nd year in a row. Mathieu van der Poel seems to have hit low form at the moment and finished 4th. World Champion Teunissen was dissapointing once again.

I have to say I'm quite impressed by Logan Owen. Being a first year U23 rider he can handle the pro races pretty well. Though it remains too see how he'd do in Belgium between stronger competition.
