I am very happy to be back in South America after last month success. However this time the team is much weaker. The objective would be to secure the best place we could over all with Alberio, go in the breakaway and collect whatever we can: a jersey, a win stage, a Top 5/Top 10 in a stage, or just some money...
STAGE 1 - Hilly
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Javier Moreno Bazan | 4h15'50 | 2 | Luis Alberto Romero Amaran | + 48 | 3 | Alexandr Pliuschin | s.t. | 4 | Byron Patricio Guama De La Cruz | s.t. | 5 | Johnnie Walker | + 1'13 | 14 | Tomas Alberio | s.t. | 15 | Alastair Loutit | + 1'46 |

Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Patrick Lane | 4h56'19 | 2 | Graham Briggs | + 53 | 3 | Chase Pinkham | s.t. | 4 | Mark Hinnen | s.t. | 5 | Fabio Andre Silvestre | s.t. | 7 | Charles Bradley Huff | s.t. | 8 | Tomas Alberio | + 4'08 |

@Abelbaba, not yet, the race is long there
STAGE 6 - Hilly
Hanson is alone at the front collecting all the Mountain points. It could be possible possible for the win. But with 5 kilometres remaining the pack was closing the gap with only 1 team at the front but Hanson was empty.
Huff was feeling great so he attacks and...
Yes Jelly Belly is no longer Artem 100% dependent

But also in the Points race:

MONTH END NEWS
First I got my agent's price: it is 2k per week (and he hasn't found anything yet...)
So my Finance looks like this:
+ 41k in the Bank as at the 1st of May (after having paid wages)
How ever I am short 14k / month for the riders' wages
and 8k for my agent so total of 22k
Basically I can survive 2 months. Another problem is that I got refused to all category 2 races for May so I will struggle to win price with my weak team given my
May planning:
Moving to the recruitments,
Should I propose to a U23 given my Finance and my lack of trainer?
Ranking is dominated by 2 punchers so far (Italian winning hills race at the beginning, French guy taking over more recently):
And what profile should I look for given the Transfer season is approching? What salary range? What skills to target?

A long race indeed, nice top 10
Looks like it is going to be a hard month for the team, as for the u23 riders I would wait a bit longer before signing one (june/july), but the Italian guy looks prommising so far.
And when you wait a bit longer you know better wich type of rider sutes your team.
As for the salary, new u23 riders always cost 2000 a month for 3 years (This is the standard offer wich they always accept) |

Great stuff! Hope Van Ulden makes it for the Tour of California, the team need fighters for the breaks there.
Also, I would probably hire another agent/ 2 agents, so more potential sponsors can be attracted.

@ Abelbaba, for U23 I know, my question was if I should target more experienced rider for next season and if so how much salary to target, what profile..., but it might be wise to wait for sponsor confirmation?
@ The Rider, Sorry but Van Ulden will not make it to California : he is completely out of form...
I hired a second agent so each week I have to pay 4k... That might become a problem soon.

A category 1 race in Poland. Alberio will target the GC while Powers, Hanson, Huff and Loutit will go in breakaway looking for money and why not a KoM or a stage?
STAGE 1 - Hilly
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Fabien Bacquet | 5h03'36 | 2 | Paul Illenberger | + 19 | 3 | Laurent Beuret | s.t. | 4 | Alexandr Pliuschin | s.t. | 5 | Harald Totschnig | s.t. | 11 | Tomas Alberio | s.t. |
STAGE 2 - Flat
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Jonas Ljungblad | 4h01'58 | 2 | Samuel Horstmann | s.t. | 3 | Leonid Krasnov | s.t. | 4 | Tomasz Smolen | s.t. | 5 | Giorgio Brambilla | s.t. | 15 | Ken Hanson | s.t. |
STAGE 3 - Flat
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Petr Bencik | 4h10'47 | 2 | Daniel Henggeler | s.t. | 3 | Matija Kvasina | s.t. | 4 | Fabien Bacquet | s.t. | 5 | Ken Hanson | s.t. |
STAGE 4 - Hilly
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Elias Schmah | 3h51'20 | 2 | Mathieu Drujon | + 36 | 3 | Tomas Alberio | s.t. | 4 | Tino Meier | s.t. | 5 | Alexandr Pliuschin | s.t. |
Attacking 5 kilometres from the line, Alberio catches the morning breakaway, but Schmah, with strong men such as Pliuschin closing the gap on him at the end.
Pretty standard, so it came as a shock when we were announced
FINAL GC
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Tomas Alberio | 17h08'32 | 2 | Alexandr Pliuschin | + 4 | 3 | Fabien Bacquet | + 13 | 4 | Vyacheslav Kuznetsov | + 42 | 5 | Paul Illenberger | + 1'10 |
I so haven't seen it coming that I took no picture. I was so ashame to Tomas for his 1st professional win
OTHER CLASSIFICATION
Points - Bacquet 35 pts - Hanson 5th (25 pts)
Mountain - Powers 30 pts
Young - Alberio 17h08'32
Team - Price Your Bike 11h36'10 - Jelly Belly 3rd (+54''

@ HaRe & sutty68 Thanks and yes, unexpected great time
3 days only, category 1, race with an ITT and an hilly stage. I have designed a team with no leader as Alberio is put at rest.
Plus we found strong competition (Nive, Rasmussen, Feillu...) The objective will be to get as much money as possible jumping in all breakaways.
STAGE 1 - ITT
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Alex Rasmussen | 8'51 | 2 | Tiago Jose Machado Pinto | + 1 | 3 | Jos Van Emden | + 3 | 47 | Ken Hanson | + 22 |
STAGE 2 - Flat
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Mitja Mahoric | 3h39'27 | 2 | Nelson Nuno Vitorino Sequeira | s.t. | 3 | Charles Bradley Huff | s.t. | 4 | Alberto Morras Fernandez | s.t. | 5 | Alastair Loutit | + 49 |
STAGE 3 -Hilly
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Mikel Nieve Iturralde | 4h28'48 | 2 | Brice Feillu | + 1'34 | 3 | Joan Horrach Rippoll | + 1'48 | 75 | Alastair Loutit | + 7'43 |
FINAL CLASSIFICATION
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Mikel Nieve Iturralde | 8h18'17 | 2 | Brice Feillu | + 1'20 | 3 | Tiago Jose Machado Pinto | + 1'39 | 73 | Charles Bradley Huff | + 7'46 | Points Feillu 28 pts - Huff 6th (16 pts)
Mountain Feillu 24 pts - Huff 5th (16 pts)
Big HC race with a reasonable sponsor's objective: wear the Mountain jersey. Classical team with Alberio back from his break targeting GC and punchers to make the breakaway.
STAGE 1 - Hilly
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Alexandre Vinokourov | 4h46'22 | 2 | Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver | s.t. | 3 | Kristof Vandewalle | + 11 | 4 | Fabian Wegmann | s.t. | 5 | Jürgen Van Den Broeck | s.t. | 6 | Jens Voigt | s.t. | 7 | Fränk Schleck | s.t. | 8 | Simon Gerrans | s.t. | 9 | Roman Kreuziger | s.t. | 10 | Luis Leon Sanchez Gil | s.t. | 32 | Tomas Alberio | + 2'30 |
STAGE 2 - Flat
Have you seen the competition here? All hope for GC gone.
But
Yes Loutit made the breakaway yesterday and was rewarded for it
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Levi Leipheimer | 5h01'11 | 2 | Borut Bozic | + 22 | 3 | Fabian Wegmann | s.t. | 12 | Tomas Alberio | s.t. | Mountain Loutit 18 pts
STAGE 3 - Flat
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Yoeri Havik | 4h21'02 | 2 | Borut Bozic | + 20 | 3 | Koldo Fernandez De Larrea | s.t. | 26 | Tomas Alberio | s.t. | Mountain Loutit 18 pts
STAGE 4 - Hilly
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Andy Schleck | 3h41'42 | 2 | Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver | + 9 | 3 | Jürgen Van Den Broeck | + 32 | 63 | Tomas Alberio | + 12'02 |
CLASSIFICATION AFTER 4 STAGES
Rank | Name | Time | 1 | Joaquin Rodriguez Oliver | 17h50'56 | 2 | Andy Schleck | + 4 | 3 | Jürgen Van Den Broeck | + 42 | 4 | Alexandre Vinokourov | + 1'02 | 5 | Luis Leon Sanchez Gil | + 1'23 | 6 | Roman Kreuziger | + 1'44 | 7 | Fränk Schleck | + 2'10 | 8 | Denis Menchov | + 2'25 | 9 | Jelle Vanendert | + 2'35 | 10 | Daniel Moreno | s.t. | 49 | Tomas Alberio | + 14'35 | Points Vinokourov 40 pts - Loutit 14th (16 pts)
Mountain Loutit 23 pts - Stetina 2nd (16pts)

"Hi coach,
- Hi Tomas, you look terrible, what's up?
- You? You ask me this? I am the leader of the team and I finished 45th more than 30' behind Schleck...
- So?
- That is terrible and don't tell me it is because you 've asked me to go in breakaway after the ITT because I haven't lost any extra time.
- Possibly not. If you want me to argue then I would say that in the first hilly stage, you were in the wrong split of the pack, and used your energy trying to come back in the main bunch, which you never did.
- What did you want me to do? Let them go and loose more time?
- No, be in the main leader's wheels and stay with the front bunch as long as you still had the force for. I am telling you this because it is your only mistake in a 8 days race.
- That is even worse, I am at the peak of my form and finished 45th, how depressing...
- Tomas, what do you think? Because you won a category 1 race, with a bit of luck you are a top rider? I am sorry to tell you are not.
Yet.
You get a great potential, you will progress and as you keep on progressing, Schleck will be aged 1 more year each year.
I count on you for now of course but even more for the future; I count on you for training hard, racing better and training harder.
It can go fast. Of course there is a big gap between you and Schleck today but it will close as you progress!
- Hum...
- Come on Tomas, I give you 1 week off to let you gather your mind, go back in Italy get some fresh air and train in your home roads. Remember your feeling and your time 2 years ago and compare with today. Then just think what it will be in 2 years...
I'll call you every evening to check on you and verify your training program. By the way, have you heard anyone in the team criticizing you? Apart from me as I certainly haven't.
- No, not directly to me at least, but they should have.
- Well they haven't and they shouldn't, because guess what: none of them would have done better. You have been a great leader so far. In California you had to compete with the best riders in the world and yes you are not one of them yet.
But you have already 1 win this year; you got the team the money we need. That is more than what I was expecting you to do this year. Don't worry the day I'll expect you to win will come and that day you'd better to win my friend.
But this day hasn't come yet. So take your bike, train hard and make it happen sooner rather than later!"

Harsh words from the coach. It sounds like Tomas thinks he is too big for Jellybelly now, maybe his impressive win is going to his head!
Well done in California for picking up the jersey. |

"This rce will be hard: with a cobble and an ITT stage, we will loose time, last stage with hil arrival might be tough too given the competition in an HC category race.
So go in the breakaway and collect whatever you can."

Finance
From 41k as at 1st of May to 38k as at 1st of June.
Given the 4k sign on bonus to our 2nd sponsor agent, all in all good month on this front.
However we are still a virgin when it comes to sponsor approach...
Results
This has been possible thanks to Alberio and his Polish win (plus his top 10 in Belgium). It will be hard to renew the perf in June, Jully and August (until Ovechkin is back with the A team )
Next Month Planning
We have been rejected from all beginning of month races despite 4 2.2 taking place. And it will be difficult to achieve big results in Colombia given the ultramontaines terrain there...
