Tour of the Basque Country Stage 1
The first stage of this year's Tour of the Basque Country is a hilly route of slightly over 150 km. The toughest part of the stage is the middle section of three climbs. I expect a sprinter who can climb, or the breakaway will take the stage.
The Race
A three man group got away about 5 km into the race. It included: Pires of Saxo Bank, Haas of Garmin, and Mourey of FDJ. They were later joined by Ulissi of Lampre.
On the 1st category climb, Jurgen Van Den Broeck and Sammy Sanchez put in the first attacks of the race. They got a large lead, but were brought back on the flat section before the last climb. The breakaway still lead by a large margin, and one of the four leaders would likely win the stage.
With about 15 km to go, Ulissi put in a big move and dropped the rest of his breakaway companions.
Ulissi took the win by 3 minutes. He was so tired he didn't celebrate. In the sprint for second place, Favilli made it a Lampre 1-2 to open the Spanish race. Henao gets a very solid third place. I finish 29th.

Post Race Comments- Not much to say. There wasn't enough teams chasing to bring the breakaway back, and they took the win. I had a very easy day. Tomorrow is the "flat" stage. Maybe someone on the team will try something.
See you then- Ian

Safely Safely does the trick for Ian. Nice and consistent, can't ask for much more.
Good 21st place in previous race! The team are doing well and Boswell is doing his part; lets hope he can have his chance to truly shine some point soon.
As sutty said Welker...things outside of the this game so concentrate on that first. I await the next few updates! Keep up the good work.

Tour of the Basque Country Stage 2
Today's stage is short, "flat" route, The break or a late attacker should take the win today.
The Race
Josh Edmonson represented the team in the breakaway along with: Schar of BMC, Kern of Ag2r, and Martinez of Euskatel.
Nothing exciting happened for the next 150 kms, and after taking the first four KOM sprints, Edmonson and Martinez were the last riders caught at the 15 km mark.
The pace dropped after the catch, and so I put in an attack. i got a big gap!
My dreams of glory were shattered though, by Peter Sagan. He caught and passed be with 1 km to go on the climb. I swallowed up by the bunch in the descent.
Sagan went on to take the win! He was given a large gap, and moves into second place on the GC.
Sergio Henao led the bunch in taking second place on the stage. Valverde was third, with the Saxo pair of Bennati and Contador.

Tour of the Basque Country Stage 3
Today's stage is the first of two summit finishes in this year's race. We should see a major contender taking the stage win. I want to finish in the top 25 today.
The Race
The day's five man breakaway consisted of: Fedrigo of FDJ, Landa of Euskatel, Ruijgh of Vaconsoleil, Vorganov of Katusha, and Millar of Garmin.
With 40 km to go, Horner opened up the attacks with a strong move. He got a gap, but was hauled back with about 15 km to go along with the early break.
At the foot of the penultimate climb, Purito put in a move, I was the front at this time, and I kept his gap relatively small. However, after I peeled off, his lead grew and it was a 30 second gap over the summit of the climb.
With 5 km to go, the final climb has started, and Van Den Broeck has bridged up to Rodriguez and they have 20 sec over the 40 man bunch.
With 1 km to go, Nibali has replaced the Belgian at the front of the race, and they lead a group of five including Sagan, Henao, and Uran by 15 seconds.
With 300 m to go Nibali and Rodriguez are running out of gas, and Uran and Henao are coming up to them. I'm in the large group about 45 seconds back. Who will take the win?
Nibali takes it! The Italian held off the Colombians in the closing meters and he took a deserving win! Uran is second, Purtio third, with Henao fourth. I finish 1 14 down in 16th place.

Tour of the Basque Country Stage 4
Today's stage is the queen stage of this year's race, and should supply huge time gaps. There are 3 cat 2 climbs, and 2 cat 1 climbs on the parcours. I would be happy to stay in the top 15 in GC today.
The Race
An eight man group got away from the gun. It included: Machado of Radioshack, Gusev of Katusha, Anton of Euskatel, Sanchez of Belkin, Amador of Movistar, De Clerq of Lotto, Piedra of Caja Rujal, and Peraud of AG2R.
On the first Cat 1 climb, the team came to the front and split the field down to a 33 man group. Missing was Nibali, Valverde, Contador, and Pinot. The break was hauled back in the descent of the climb.
The front group lead the Contador, Nibali, Valverde group by one minute as the leaders hit the final climb of the day. Purito opened up the attacks, and only Van Den Broeck and Sagan even attempted to follow.
At the 5 km to go mark, Henao put in a strong move, and got away from the now 15 man peloton. Rodriguez's lead was only 15 seconds.
At around the 1.5 km mark, Henao made contact with the Spainard, and the two would fight for stage honors and the leader's jersey.
Henao took the win and the leader's jersey! He and Rodriguez are now tied on time heading into the last two stages! Van Den Broeck takes third, with Mollema finishing alongside Uran.
Hey! Looks who's finishing alongside Nibali and Valverde! That guy must be some great talent to do that in his first season. Great result for me finishing in 9th place and moving up in the GC!

Post Race Comments- I will remember this day for a long time. How often can a young neo-pro say that in his second WT race, he finished along side Nibali and Valverde on a summit finish. Also, great win for Henao, we will defend his lead tomorrow, then it will be up to him in the TT to take the GC win!

sutty68: He sure has
Well, at about the 10 km to go mark, the stage crashed. Then as I go to rerace the stage, it quick-simmed it and no I have to go in and take screens of the results. Some times I hate this game
I'm just gonna upload the images I have and try to make a report that makes since.
The Race
The early break had eight riders: Tiernan Locke in the group, They only lasted about 100 km before they were brought back.
With 75 km to go, the first big split occurred. Left behind were Sagan, Contador, and Nibali.
With 45 km to go the next split occurred, and none of the main GC guys were caught out.
On the descent of the next climb, I crashed and it was bad. I spent a long time on the ground, but I continued, and finished the stage. However, I lost 20 minutes and all hope of a high finish are gone.
On the last climb, Nibali put in a big move and got away. After this point, I couldn't find any pictures of anything else that happened during.
Post Race Comments- After the stage, I was given X-Rays and nothing is broken, I have a lot of road rash though, and I won't be starting tomorrow. I'll just give the results. I should be fine for Amstel Gold, but I won't start in Paris-Camembert.
See You Then- Ian

This year's edition of the Dutch Classic should be decided on the Cauberg. The winner will probably be a rider with a fast finish, as the last kilometer is fairly flat. The team wants a top 3 today.
The Race
An eight man group got away early on. It included: Valls of Vaconsoleil, Kreder of Garmin, Madrazo of Movistar, Pauwels of Omega, Bulgac of Lotto, and Proni of Vini Fantini.
With 40 km to go the race is nearing the toughest climbs of the race, and the break still has 2 minutes.
Purito made the first serious move, and the real race had begun.
Gilbert didn't want to let the Spaniard get away, and so he attacked soon after. He was followed by Sagan and Valverde.
However, all the attackers were brought back with about 20 km to go.
On the next climb, Uran put in a big move, and there was no response from the other favorites.
Sagan soon took matters into his own hands. Behind him a chase group of nine has formed with most of the main favorites.
At the 10 km to go mark, Uran and Sagan have been brought back by the chase group.
On the Cauberg, Henao rode away from all the others except for Sagan. Who would win the sprint?
Sergio Henao takes the the biggest win of his career in the Amstel Gold Race! Sagan paid for his earlier efforts, and Henao surprisingly won the sprint finish! Gilbert rounds out the podium with Rodriguez fourth.
I cross the finish in a very respectable 18th place right ahead of Ryder Hesjedal.
Stage Results
1 | Sergio Henao | Sky Procycling | 6h43'07 | 2 | Peter Sagan | Cannondale Pro Cycling | s.t. | 3 | Simon Gerrans | Orica - GreenEdge | s.t. | 4 | Philippe Gilbert | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | 5 | JoaquÃm RodrÃguez | Katusha Team | + 14 | 6 | Roman Kreuziger | Team Saxo - Tinkoff | s.t. | 7 | Rui Costa | Movistar Team | s.t. | 8 | Rinaldo Nocentini | AG2R La Mondiale | + 40 | 9 | Luis León Sánchez | Belkin Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | 10 | Björn Leukemans | Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team | s.t. ... | 18 | Ian Boswell | Sky Procycling | s.t. |
Post Race Comments- Sergio's great form from the Basque Country obviously carried over to this race as he was definitely was the strongest today. For my part, I think I did very well, finishing in the top 20 in my first WT classic. My next race is Fleche Wallione. I hope to get another top 20 placing.
