Will upload two flat-ish stages in a moment. First mountain stage (ax-3 domaines) will be played this evening!

Two stages for either sprinters or breaks. The GC men won't be wasting any energy here, keeping in mind what's coming this weekend!

The Races

Stage 6 knew a five man break. One survived until the very end and took the win. Wegmann with an amazing victory!

Stage 7 was again a stage for the break. Jimmy Engoulvent takes a Tour stage!

Wow. It's been such a strange Tour so far. Surprisingly the sprinters are making a mess of it. Let's hope the other climbers do as well, that would give me some breathing space!

Tomorrow is the first mountain finish, I hope I'm ready...

Good week to be in the breakaways it seems, though tomorrow in the mountains may be a different story for the break. Time for Andy to step up to the plate and show the world whether he is returning to something approaching his former abilities.

Stage 8 :: Castres - Ax 3 Domaines

Profile

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf801_zpsc3d0f753.jpg

Finally it's time for the mountains. Finally we'll know what's what, who possesses the real strength of this Tour!

The Race

Lotto and Movistar took the race into their hands and turned up a fast pace. The break never stood a chance today! Everyone was waiting for a Froome - Contador showdown, and no break was going to spoil that. Hell that I would try, though!

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf802_zpsca6df82f.jpg

5 kilometers up the mountain slope, I already found myself isolated. The pace was high and nobody in the team could keep up. I took a final sip from my water bottle and threw it alongside the road. Every kg counts now.

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf803_zps0cf358ba.jpg

And then it happened. Froome opened the battle for Yellow! Rodriguez and Contador didn't let him go, though.

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/PCM0008_zps907c2715.jpg

I was caught off guard a bit, I thought they would wait until the final climb. But I wasn't far behind and I was coming closer!

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf804_zps9cdeb4ba.jpg

And then we regrouped. I was feeling better and better!

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf805_zps8485b2cd.jpg

The last 200 meters I made some pace and I crossed the top first. 25 mountain points, thank you very much! I was surprised to see my efforts dropped Rodriguez.

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf806_zps114ae0fa.jpg

Nobody was anxious to go very hard downhill so a small group was formed. Not to worry, I didn't want to risk everything by falling again, and those downhills are not my favorite thing here.

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf807_zps8deba984.jpg

Then I saw my chance. The final climb, to the ski resort. The second that the road went uphill again, I changed gears and sped away!

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf808_zps7d460742.jpg

It felt like flying. It's been so long ago since I've had this feeling. With that effort in my legs, still I felt better minute after minute. I saw Rodriguez, Froome and Contador coming so I went "en danseuse" again, I couldn't make this too easy on them!

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf809_zps2021e5df.jpg

If one thing is obvious today, it is that this might be the three strongest climbers here: Contador, Froome, and myself!!!

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf810_zpsc39d0510.jpg

Everyone was practically dying so there was no need to sprint for the victory! I'M BACK!

I can't even start to explain to you how this feels. It's been a struggle, months, maybe even years. It's been a long, hard fight, full of obstacles, but I did it. Once again I rule the mountain tops!

There are plenty mountains left in this Tour. All I can say is: bring them on!

This can only mean one thing... Its Peanut Butter Jelly Time! Banana

Ahem, on a more serious note however that was a thoroughly encouraging display from Andy in Le Tour's first mountain stage. Still a long way to Paris, but I think I hear the "Andy for the Tour" bandwagon coming.
