Ah, forgot the TTT was first up Knew I should have checked before posting!
There we go then. Every GT in 2013, Stage 1 ends with the same team having a rider in 1st and 2nd in GC.
Unless the TTT is a tie
Not a bad stage for me, every hilly stage without timeloss is probably good.
X2! Bring on the mountains *Raises fist towards mb2612*

Count, you had me going there cursing at the screen when I thought Van Stayen was doing a Van Heerdan by launching early. Amazing detail as we come to expect from you!
Very pleased with that, we are beginning to build a portfolio of GT wins now. After a real day off on stage 2, great for the team to take that stage puts the pressure off a bit going into tomorrows flatter stage, though with a slight incline at the end.
Holloway and Van Stayen are proving pretty strong in all conditions, it's going to be a good rivalry between them. I look at some of the main sprinting rivals today and it was a complete non show from Goss, Impey went backwards and of course Guerao and the rest of the hill haters were a no show.
Valverde is going to be a bastard on the later flat stages for sure, he has been active early on in this race as well. Taking the GC lead early is a typical trademark Koenigsegg move, they have snatched it again, sneaky . Could be to Tenorio's benefit who'll be in a better position to eclipse Posthuma on the TT.

Bugge!
Great to see him attack and be so aggressive, both for sprint points and mountain points. It's all about the small "victories" for us in this Vuelta
A slight disappointment to see Impey not having a chance in that sprint, considering Van Stayen won it, as Impey should not do worse on hills. Anyway, big congratulations to Smowz. Van Stayen is proving to be quite a rider, and it makes me look forward to next season, where Impey will be maxed out and have 80 in sprint.
Thanks for a well written and detailed report, CountArach.

Mollema apparently decided that it wasn't worth the while anyway. Too bad, as he had a decent position and could possibly have sprinted for top 10. Nice to see Valverde in the leaders jersey really
About Guerao this was never his favorite stage, so I just hoped he somehow could mingle the pace - But he should be much better tomorrow where I expect him to sincerely fight for the stagewin. If he can't compete on that kinda terrain then he is wasted in this race really. So fingers are very much crossed now.

Nice move from Kelderman, this is the kind of attack I like, in contrary to the one yesterday.
I'm slightly worried about B&O already taking good points with their second tier leaders here...

Sneaky and very awesome!
However, I wonder what decided which way the leader jersey went, stage positions perhaps? If so, next stage easily can swap it around again.

I doubt Posthuma can get the jersey back now since Valverde is the better sprinter and more likely to get involved in the next sprint as well.

I'm suspecting it could be something down to less than a second from the TT, but I don't know how the PCM AI is working times.

Great couple of stage. Nice to see the GC action on stage 2 and today Mendes doing that beauty of a ride. It's because of these performances that I've brought him to the Vuelta and it's already paying off.

Not great, I suspect Valverde will be tough to beat if he starts doing this on flat stages as well.

Excellent positioning by Van Stayen again, the Pokerstars train is definately by far the best train, But as you say Count not that easy to join and hold.
Certainly a podium on the flat is no disgrace, It was a tight one between Goss, Holloway and Van Stayen. The stage showed there is a fair few decent sprinters in the field, I note again he poor Impey was here.
Major WTF with the breakaway, one wonders how this will effect Posthuma going into the TT. He should be Tenorio's main rival I reckon. Unbelievable that he faxed to get the time bonus for the lead and Caruso got the twelve he needed. Wiggle look set for an active race.

Quite literally amazing. Astounded by the current results I'm getting, with, what can be quite easily described as, a crap team!
Keep them coming!
Great reporting too Count. Loving the detail. Though I did suspect Valverde to come through for the sprint win... |

Arrrh Sinner you fucking retard! Guerao was so brilliant placed to sprint a top 3 here, and then you block him!
Hugely dissapointed.

Nice to see Posthuma trying to get back the jersey. Too bad Caruso also had plans for the red jersey.
And Majka already out of the race, can't be very good for my team.

What an insane breakaway that was. 3 very strong puncheurs and 2nd placed overall! Nicely played by Caruso to steal the race lead!
Bodes well for a strong aggressive race for Jaguar that Dowsett and Froome are the ones chasing the breakaways, Konte too after his earlier KoM.
And Pokerstars seem to click better without Swift and Bennati in their way, or the hit and miss Mohs. Festina are going to find it tough I think to deliver Guerao to a reasonable result, with Sinner being even worse on the hills than Guerao, Pokerstars' train is too good for them - good news for Holloway and whoever manages to follow it.
For Vesuvio, any sprint points for Merino Criado are a bonus - I know from the Giro how poor the gameplay is for the 2nd tier sprinters. So 8th here is good. And also promising that despite his crash - hopefully harmless - Frank Schleck has been categorised as a 'sprinting favourite' with his 28th place today. Shouldnt be a danger of him losing out to any splits on the flat stages then. While Contador, Uran and Machado look set to be gambling on there being no splits on these sorts of stages.

WTF that breakaway!
And finally some good news for me, really nice sprint by Howard, 4th place is a nice omen what I hopefully can expect from him in the next season regularly.

Congrats to dave and thanks for another nice report, CountArach!
Disappointing by Impey, looks like the tougher flat stages are our only hope for good stage placings. Now though, I'll only enjoy the battle between the big guns for the GC on the three coming stages |
