@Miguel: Here's hoping certainly! First race should be up in the next few hours

@Sutty: We agree! He's been in excellent form, very promising ahead of the coming Halfords Tour series

Good races to come up, hope that you can keep it up with Ed!

Our first race of March is the French one day classic, Le GP Ville de Lillers. Last year the race was won by British Russell Downing, and with a bit of luck we'll keep it in British hands for another year.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/GPville_zpsf6bafb86.jpg

We send an 8 man squad including ever present Ed Clancy. He's here to lead the team, with support from Lloyd, Hammond, Buggle, Grivell-Mellor, English, Cuming and Carthy. There are several strong sprinters here today, most notably Poulhiés of Cofídis and Simon of Sojasun.

The Race

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0001_zps00e5de5d.jpg
Not wanting to use too many riders in a chase, we sent Luke (Grivell-Mellor) into the attacks this morning. Eventually he managed to get into an established group of 5, who held 3'42 with 104km remaining.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0002_zpsc2189701.jpg
The race contains 3 laps of a circuit in Ville d'Lillers before arriving for the finish. The circuit contains a small hill, though it wasn't enough to challenge Ed on the first passage.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0003_zps6d8f8745.jpg
In an un co-operative breakaway, the pace was highly temperamental. Luke did all he could to keep the group away for as long as possible, and on a few occasions spurred them into life. With 33km they held just 2'15.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0004_zpsfa91709e.jpg
With 4.5km to go Giraud of La Pomme Marseille went on the offensive. Dan Lloyd managed to grab his wheel as far as the break, where Luke Grivell-Mellor set about towing him into position for the finale. Clancy meanwhile stayed in the peloton on the wheel of Cofidis sprinter Poulhiés, giving us an egg in every basket.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0005_zpsb289f746.jpg
Giraud timed his move to perfection collecting a win on home soil ahead of the break. We would contest for second spot, whilst Clancy would be fighting for a top 10 finish.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/PCM0006_zps7c6ebfd7.jpg
Dan managed to grab us 3rd place on the day, after making the right decision to follow Girauds late move. Behind him we managed a second top10 place, Luke Grivell-Mellor was rewarded for his day in the break, with 9th place in the race.

It's not exactly how we'd planned the race, but nevertheless we're very pleased! Dan made the call when he saw Giraud come past him, and was strong enough to hold the wheel all the way to the break, at which point Luke buried himself for his team mate to give us a great podium finish here in France.

Especially pleasing to see Dan getting a strong result here, as he's not long been with the team, joining us at the beginning of January to help bolster the teams' options. He showed today how useful he will be throughout the calendar, being an excellent all-rounder with experience in the World Tour.

This semi-classic is our only race on the calendar in Belgium. It's never seen a British winner, but we're hopeful we can change that through the strong squad we are bringing. Clancy and Hammond have interchangeable roles, and the final decision on team leader won't be made until we see how the race is panning out.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/RCJ%20Headers/RCJ%20Story%20Pics/PCM0001_zps98470f4d.jpg
7 men got clear with 162km to the line. We avoided this mornings breakaway, preferring to keep men back around our various options later in the race.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/RCJ%20Headers/RCJ%20Story%20Pics/PCM0002_zps0b57fff7.jpg
An Post, Crelan and Accent all took up the pace setting as we headed toward the Gent-Wevelgem style "Bergs." Both Clancy and Hammond were feeling strong early in the day, so we continued to provide support to both riders.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/RCJ%20Headers/RCJ%20Story%20Pics/PCM0003_zps68e374b5.jpg
After passing one of the 4 climbs of the day, we sent Luke Grivell-Melllor on the offensive. He's very much a developing talent, and it was a good opportunity for him to try his legs in the classics he one day hopes to dominate

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/RCJ%20Headers/RCJ%20Story%20Pics/PCM0004_zpsaee5d9e4.jpg
With one of 2 laps completed the peloton began to break up. Luke was just 30" behind the break, whilst we still had 3 riders involved at the front of the main group; Clancy, Hammond and Lloyd.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/RCJ%20Headers/RCJ%20Story%20Pics/PCM0005_zps807e5bd1.jpg
With the days final difficulty looming, Luke was grabbing some shelter in the back of the break, 2'34" in front of the pack. Both Ed and Roger were looking good, so we would try to hang back for a sprint, leaving Hammond with orders to follow the moves by any cobble specialist.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/RCJ%20Headers/RCJ%20Story%20Pics/PCM0006_zps993974d6.jpg
With just 13km remaining the day looked all but done for the breakaway. Clancy had maintained a hold on the front group of 40riders, so we would do our best to set him up for a sprint.

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/RCJ%20Headers/RCJ%20Story%20Pics/PCM0007_zps9bac28e8.jpg
4km to go and we're looking by far the best positioned. It waits to be seen whether Ed still has the legs after the hills and cobbles, but we're certainly giving him the best possible launchpad

i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/baggieboys33/RCJ%20Headers/RCJ%20Story%20Pics/PCM0008_zps32e22e5a.jpg
Hugging the barriers proved the perfect decision, and Clancy delivers once again this year! The route was not too selective and all of the top3 are sprinters, Vantomme taking second, with Bennett of An Post in 3rd.

Well we came here hoping to do exactly what we've managed, put the first ever Englishman on the top step of the Kattekoers podium! It's been a dream start to the year for us, with an endless flow of podiums and wins! The team are proving time and again how strong we are, and now the focus will be on the two remaining stage races this month.

It took 72 years for this race to receive a British winner which makes this moment even more proud for the team. Ed Clancy has hit a beautiful vein of form, and we hope he can carry on his success to the british calendar which is soon to start!

Ian Butler
First Englishman ever, great job here Smile Proud moment for the team and Clancy!

Super Ed is at it again Grin
