Good race for LuLu.
Also, Cancellara finishes third in a race with "mountains"

I thought we could overtake Cancellara, but a stage podium is a nice consolidation.
So that's the KoM for Kelderman, plus (iirc) our very first white jersey win!
Some nice stage results, two jerseys and fifth in GC makes me very happy, let's hope that gives us a boost for the second half of the season, hopefully starting from a rather surprisingly good rankings position.

Bueno. If we could somehow scratch out a stage win this will have been a very good race.

Considering how unpredictable the race was, i'll take 9th and 10th to fulfill a season goal of a top 10. Who would have thought Bookwalter would be my top placed rider?
Also holding the lead in the team classification, with Talansky in 2nd for the young rider competition, this race looks like a success if we have a drama free final stage. As much as I could hope without sending Phinney here.

I can imagine it being quite a pleasure for you to follow that race, Smowz. Great race for your whole team, and in particular Van Stayen and Cancellara.
I was a little surprised to see the latter holding on so well on Mount Baldy, but I guess it was quite expected really - given the relatively low gradients early on the climb and the shortness of the final kick up to the finish. I'm glad that the climbers managed to gap the rest anyway, as it feels deserved that one of them wins the overall.
I can understand SotD's frustration, though. Contador really should've done better there, considering his usual strength.

Too bad Uran couldn't gain enough time on Cancellara. But 4th place is quite solid result I think.

That was a decent race for us, considering the quality in our line up. Congratulations to p3druh! Also valuable points for Heineken.
And thanks for solid reports all the way, Smowz |

Can't complain on how this race went. 15th in the GC isn't that bad. A little sad that we didn't do more, but oh well. 10/10, would race again.

I had an inkling Cancellara would do a good GC and thats what I spent 8 race days on bringing him here.
Was delighted with Van Stayen though, who had a superb race sprinting wise and seeing Cancellara and Bobridge doing superb lone leadouts was really awesome.
Machado won the race with two very powerful moves, Contador and Festina raced brainlessly really they dropped Guerao on the hilly flat stages and then Contador's attack on the Baldy stage was mistimed. Very unfortunate for SotD in many ways. PCM didn't really simulate Mount Baldy that well but I'm certainly not going to complain about the outcome

That was a shitty race for my team. Guerao didn't have the legs to perform anything, and Contador fucked up big time, and in the end Rolland also managed to drop, otherwise he would have been doing a top 10 instead, which could salvage things.
Oh well, now we know that Contador is only for serious mountains and preferably spanish races. Looking forward to see the competition in La Vuelta, where I have a top 3 MUST goal. Every other goal of this season will be a failure.

I'm pleased with that. It'll probably be our best stage race result of the season.

A bit disappointed that De la Fuente hasn't tried anything after his first attack/showing.
But ToC wasn't a race where I expected to get much of it because my team isn't so deep in strong climbers or stage racers unlike other teams.

Big race for Simply Red Bull and Pearl Adidas. Important strong scores for Puma and Heineken as well.

Reynes beating Guerao to 4th is nice, but it's scary how far behind I am. Valls was meant to help make up ground here.

What a great race for us!
Not so much VDB's fifth GC place, that could've been expected with that startlist, but especially the two jerseys we can take home - amongst them the very first white jersey in our existence iirc - and the good stage results make this a very successful race.
Thanks Smowz for the reports, and congratulations to both you and Pearl for the extraordinary performances throughout these 8 days.
The rankings look brighter now, but I guess the Giro will mix it up a lot, and I can't predict at all how we'll score relatively to those surrounding teams.
The obvious Santander aside, Bacardi need to get a lot out of their stage racers as well, it seems.
Correct me if I'm missing something or am not experienced enough to evaluate their situation as a whole, but Ricco is probably not taking the expected amount of points from the Giro so far...

This season has been pretty bad for us. I took the gamble of not having a sprinter, but PCM112 wasn't a good game to go that tactic. I can't really score anything from mountains races, as it's pretty hard to open up gap in the mountains, and time trials are the most decisive thing. Ricco's great secondary stats don't seem to matter that much. We'll see how the rest of the Giro/other GT's goes.
Also, Burghardt did absolutely nothing in the cobbles (well, he did, but not living up to his wage).

I suspect that if the Giro ended with the GC standings as they are post Stage 13, we could well see the same 4 teams in the relegation positions. Plenty of time left in the Giro for a teams fortunes to change though.

Cool a rankings update, what an incredible California stage race we had. Have some decent hopes with Cancellara for his other seasons races as well, the cobbles, TONE and Tasmania.
Stuggling to make an impact at the Giro, but then so are quite a few teams. Beginning to suspect a few more teams than expected are looking very hard at relegation places. Anyone from 11th down at the moment, will be looking behind there shoulder.
Still the three Grand Tours and four or five tough mountain stage races though so lots of changes left in the stage racing part of season.
