Thomas was close today. Sagan simply was too good and once he attacked nobody could follow except for Hoogerland, who seems to be in excellent shape already. Boasson Hagen waited with the other sprinters, but when the pace of the pack dropped, Hagen had to close the gap with the leaders and wasn't able to make it into the top 10. Nevertheless he did a great job and didn't loose time on most of the competition bringing him to 8th place in the GC. With a decent result tomorrow this position should be easy to defend.

Stage 6: Adelaide Street Circuit 90 km
Edvald Boasson Hagen - Bernhard Eisel - Mathew Hayman - Luke Rowe - Chris Sutton - Geraint Thomas
Directly from the start Herrada, Brutt, Roy, Izagirre, Van der Walle and Hayman attacked. The pack did not respond and the riders quickly took 3 minutes.
The first Jayco intermediate sprint was won easily by Brutt as the others weren't interested. The pack followed at 4 minutes, but was rapidly getting closer.
The first Skoda King of the Mountain sprint was won by Herrada, before Brutt, Hayman, Van der Walle, Roy and Izagirre. The mountain jersey is still undecided and the righters fought fiercely for it. The pack followed at 3 minutes.
Herrada won the second Jayco intermediate sprint before Roy and Brutt. The pack followed at 2 minutes.
The second Skoda King of the Mountain sprint was won by Izagirre, before Van de Walle, Roy, Herrada, Brutt and Hayman. This meant that Van de Walle secured the King of the Mountain prize. The pack followed at 1'41.
Just before the finish the attackers were caught and as expected the stage finished with a mass sprint. In the sprint Sagan showed that he was the best rider of the Tour Down Under by securing his third victory in a row.

Although Sutton and Boasson Hagen were unable to compete for today's victory the management of the Sky Pro Cycling team were quite happy with the overall results. Both Thomas and Boasson Hagen managed to secure a top 10 position in the general standings, scoring the first World Tour Points for the team in 2013. The riders will now fly to Qatar where they will meet up with Rasch and compete in the Tour of Qatar.

The overall result with two riders in the top 10 was excellent indeed. But the Sky riders have never been close to a stage victory. This is something to work on.... |

Edvald Boasson Hagen - Bernhard Eisel - Mathew Hayman - Gabriel Rasch - Luke Rowe - Chris Sutton - Geraint Thomas
Troughout the first part of the stage several riders desperately tried to get away. The pack on the other hand fought for every meter and consequently the pace was very high. Canuti followed at 25 seconds and the pack at a minute.
The breakaway did get space from the pack and also made it to the next intermediate sprint. Stallaert won the sprint before Traksel, Chiarini, Canuto and Rasch. The pack followed at three minutes and approaching fast.
In the chase of the leading group several riders fell and dropped back from the pack. Among them was Tom Boonen.

Trofeo Las Palmas: Palma - Palma 120 km

Ian Boswell - Joshua Edmondson - Sergio Henao - David López - Danny Pate - Kanstantsin Siutsou - Ben Swift - Jonathan Tiernan-Locke - Xabier Zandio
Bravo, Petrov and Pate escaped from the pack after several riders had tried before.
Zeits managed to make the jump to the leading group while the gap grew to 3 minutes.
With 20 kilometers to go the pack was quickly closing the gap to the leading group. For 'For Tamouridis, Teruel and Oroz this was reason to try to make the jump to the leading group. Zeits and Pate didn't want to face three Euskaltel teammates in the breakaway. They attacked before the Euskaltel riders could unite.
Guttierez suprised the sprinters and attacked in the last kilometers. He wins the Trofeo Las Palmas. Keukeleire and Tsatevich also finished on the podium.

Stage 2: Al Rufa Street TTT 14 km
Edvald Boasson Hagen - Bernhard Eisel - Mathew Hayman - Gabriel Rasch - Luke Rowe - Chris Sutton - Geraint Thomas
The team time trial at Al Rufa Street was an easy prey for Radioshack, with Cancellara and the New Zealanders Bennett and Sergent in their squad. Remarkably Cancellara lost a few seconds in the end and consequently Bennet will take the leaders jersey.
