Meersman was obviously the fastest. Surprisingly good first stage, props to Sky for breaking up the race.

So from today two riders disappoint me most from what I read in the last pages here... One is Horner. Second one is Uran.
Really nice to see Gesink looking sharp after horrendous Paris Nice. Wiggins looks in good form. Still the race is Rordgiuez v Valverde.

Am pretty sure Sky were working for Uran who came in at the back of the front group *I think*.

Uran didn't make the leading group.
Lopez, Cataldo and Wiggins did from Sky.

The 3 Sky riders in the front group were Wiggins, Cataldo and Lopez. No Uran there. |

Ah right in that case you're right to be disappointed, I'm certainly a little surprised. Either way good finish. |

Tbh I am not that greatly surprised. Uran is quite unpredictable sometimes, hence that's why I mostly missed him in the GC bet. However it is indeed small surprise, but he's not the only GC rider that missed out on time today. Those two MTF's should provide plenty of time to make that time up though if they are run that is.

Yeah lets hope we don't a repeat of last year and the recent European weather. For this stage I could only dig out the top 10 result and as there were 13 in the front group I thought there was a 4th Sky rider there outside the top 10, namely Uran. Got the impression he was there from the usually excellent OPQS Twitter feed.
Also, I know there's a few to choose from and the race organisers and production crew weren't helping, but that wasn't Carlton Kirby's finest moment. Rounded off nicely by saying goodbye 5 times before they finally went off air

So far the forecasts say that, at worse, there'll fall some snow on Vallter 2000, but only a few and in the morning, so it shouldn't be a problem, and no snow on Port Ainé (just a bit the day before). The climb to Vallter could be quite cold though.

There really is no limit to Eurosport's stupidity, is there?
The other day they didn't show Tirreno so they could show Ski Jumping....in a country with no Ski Jumping and where 99.9% of people don't know such a sport exists.
Tonight they'll be showing a repeat of the Volta a Catalunya......on both channels at the same time
I.....I just........sigh.....
The preceding post is ISSO 9001 certified

Those are the times where we remember what "public service" is in television. I'm sure there are 4 guys watching ski all day long in Portugal lol
It's a shame that gap, because Manuel Cardoso was going to win the stage today. I enjoyed the fact that the guy on Eurosport PT commenting the stage after knowing the guys on that group immediately said "Meersman is the guy to put your money on".
This is what makes this sport so amazing, a collective sport where individuals suffer and have distinguished characteristics making a guy with way lower wage then most of the guys in there, to be suddenly the major candidate and then winning it in style! And he's the hero today...Spoiler and maybe tomorrow |
