I have no screens because I though I could make them in the replay but there was no....
anyway, it was top favourite Guttierez who set the fast time in the beginning and he wasn't passed. Bodrogi came close but it's wasnt enough. I got to say me team did really well in the firt pro tour race because we have the team classification

I think it does and I especially think that the Dutch riders are extremely overrated. Guys like Dekker, Gesink and Eltink are of course big talents, but already at the end of 2007, they're all capable of winning every race they participate in.
Not that I have any against these guys, It just doesn't seem realistic.

budget at rabo ct was in 2007 3.5 mil and at 2008 5mil but I sold a rider for about 3 million to pay contador
I allso think some dutch riders are overrated. Dekker... a little bit but not too much. Gesink should start with higher stats but on expecrianc level higher and eltink is surely overrated... but overall the stats are good get's as close to real life as you can get.
except the fact I expect contador to have 84 mountain at the end of 2008, maybe faster |

Time for the 2nd stage of Paris Nice, van Poppel is reaching a good condition, we'll see if we can get a podium spot.
World Champion Grivko with yellow jersey gutierrez in the back, both ready to go.
Bodrogi is wearing the green jersey today as he was 2nd yesterday.
As Van Hecke is the last to be caugth from the original break, theres a new attack from 6 riders who get 1'30 but are caugth 10km after.
The trains set up, AG2R for Cavendish on the left with Bennati and van Poppel behind, on the rigth it's Milram with Sacci working for Chicci.
Allthough van Popprl is in a reasonably good position, he hasnt the power to pass Bennati... Up from is Cavendih battling with Kemps for the victory but it's the brit Mark Cavendish who takes it on the line!

A hilly stage... and yes... I got no hilly riders here....
I'll have to go for a break...
And so I did, I send Van Der Velde in the break. The break wasnt really working together, but because of all the attacks the pace was high.
Van der Velde went for the mountain jersey as that would be the only thing we could get here in france and even with luck it's gonna be hard.
Then the break was caugth and it was up to other riders to attack and so they did. Only the leader, Gutierrez had a gap, but then it was up to the real guns and then this was the new situation:
In the end they where all caugth again so it'd come down to a sprint but (you feel it coming dont ya???) of course none of my riders survived the climbs.
But it was Bettini (Rabobank) who suddenly got a gap, and with his sprinting skills it's a done job.

Interview with La Gazetta Dello Sport.
Q: What are your goals in the Italian races???
A: First of all, one of our sprinters, van Poppel, is aiming for a top 5, hopefully a podium, in the classic Milaan Sanremo. He’s currently preparing himself for it in Paris – Nice. Then, there is of course the Giro D’Italia which is one of our main goals this season. Our leader Alberto Contador will be going there with winning purposes. And then there is of course the World Champs in Varese, where I hope to see Dekker being World TT champ again.
Q: About your leader Contador, how come he had signed such a small Dutch team???
A: Well… first of all he didn’t want to sign us. He was indeed looking for a big team, preferbly Spanish. But when the season was over he still didnt have a new team so when we contacted him again he said he’d give it a try. Now, he’s confortable in our team and he knows whats expected from him. But his English is really bad, so we had to hire a translater. Fortunatly, Alberto and that translater get along really well so our 2 Spaniard are having good fun here.
Q: You have a relativly youngh and unexperianced team for the Pro Tour. What do you expect of this team this season???
A: Well, most riders are indeed youngh and unexperiance, but thats the reason I signed a few oldies to help them to get going on this level. Men like Chris Hoy, David Zabriskie and Laszlo Bodrogi will get the expeciance level up. Of course, I dont expect my younghters to win the Pro Tour but I do want to see some results. Hopefully a few wins. But this year is mostly going to be an experiance year fort hem.
Q: Which riders you ecpect as you biggest rivals in the Giro???
A: First of all last years winner, Danilo Di Luca, but allse Italians like Cunego, Piepoli, Simoni, and of course the big talent Andy Schleck. For the rest it depends who’s coming to Italie. But I do expect great battles for the pink jersey there in the Mountains and I hope Alberto won’t get in trouble if all his teammates are gone. Because, really… I dont have such a strong mountain squad…
Ok thank you for this interview. |

Another hilly stage, time for KOM Van der Velde to get in the break again:
He takes as much points as he can through the stage.
Then, the pack breaks and leader Gutierrex is in the wrong half.
But the race doesnt wait. The break is caugth and it's world campion Grivko who opens the attacks and he's followd by Nibali and many other attacks.
At the top of the last hill this is the situation:
They stay in front and can sprint for the win. Both are very poor sprinter but it's Nibali who takes it from leadout position.

Suprize!!! One of my strongest possible teams is here. Contador is preparing for the april classics in which he think he could do well allso, and not only in grand tours. He go zabriskie for the time trial and maaskant for the sprints/
The break goas away in 3 parts and they all get together in the end. Of course they are caugth, but then...
It's Martijn Maaskant who cant keep his bike straigth and he fall taking a lot of big names with him like Freire, Petacci, Voigt, Hincapie, Gesink Parra and Boesson Hagen. The last 2 never step up again...
But the sprint goes on, and it's Gerolsteiner who gets there sprinter Haussler in a perfect position.
He is strong and nobody even gets close.

The first mountains of this year. Van der Velde going int he break again as allways.
They get 10'40 but it's not enough and when Rasmussen attacks it's time for the favourites to follow.
On the top of the Mont Ventoux it's Rasmussen leading with Nibali close behind and then a large gap of 4'10 to Cunego who has a small gap to the pack.
Nibali easily beats Rasmussen in the sprint for his 2nd victory and he now has a big lead in the GC.

The break today was only one rider:
As he was caugth, new attacks came from Hoste followed bu bazavjev, Burghart and Quinziato.
Only Hoste was away though. He was catched pretty soon as 80km to go would be too much for him anyway.
Then the intermidate sprint, Maaskant didnt do to well in it but he had a great feeling so at top spinting speed just after the sprint, he attacks. He quickly gets 40 seconds and with 15km to go he migth hold it.
But he doesnt, with 3km to go he is caugth andthe sprint is on.Maaskant used all his energy in the attack so he is out.
It's looking good for O'Grady ashe ha a small gap but Boonen quikly gains some places and overtakeseverybody.

Another stage in france, and van der Velde still got the mountain jersey.
And yes, he's going in the break to defend it again.
He's battling with Tankink for the points, but it seems Tankink has a better condition cus he sets a though pace.
The break is caugth again, no new attacks so it's a sprint. It's looking good for Bennati.
And it's a first pro tour win for him this season.
