Uh, the wind direction decided the Tour?!? I think there were some other stages than that particular TT
my point was that if so many of those little things had to go Contador's way for him to win by such a small margin, then it's more likely at least one of them won't go his way next time.

That's not entirely true, I think. I think he planned the season really bad. In fantastic shape in early February / March - won Valenciana and Murcia - even won the Murcia TT.
He DID finish runner-up in L-B-L AND Fléche, not up to speed in Amstel, but still 7th...
But to me, he should kill that March warm-up (after all, not win those races) and then be all in for April. In perfect shape he should earn more than 5th (as he did this season).
And about the tour. There are simply too many kilometers for a Vuelta-only rider. Rasmussen was killed by those 20-50+ kilometers in his first two TdF's as well. Valverde won at Courchevelle in 2004 (?) but we never saw him ride on. He looked very well-prepared at the start of this Tour - the only one to ride with Moreau when he attacked. But he is not yet a TdF 3 week rider, IMO.
I agree 100% on all points, except for one: the TT at Murcia was his for the taking because it was a mountain TT . as I said several times before the Tour: I don't think he progressed in his TT skills from 2006 to 2007.

I understand issoisso. But then again maybe more little good things will happen for Contador or more bad things will happen for Cadel. That's what makes the tour so great. |

that's what makes cycling so great
being the Tour or another similar race (in this case a three-week tour) doesn't matter much to me as long as the profile is good
honestly, even if suddenly every rider goes clean and the top riders turn out to be Ian McLeod and Mads Kaggestad, I don't care. as long as they're evenly matched, the show will be great, regardless of how fast they're going
so, in short, my point is: I don't care what race it is. as long as the racing is good

to be fair Contador lost about 30 seconds with a wheel change in the closing km's to Tignes (I think)

I'm not sure, but I think that was the Galibier. and if it was the Galibier, then there's nothing he could've done since he had no chance of staying away in the downhill.
speaking of downhill, one of the 2008 stages finishes with a monsterly steep downhill

nope checked, it was Tignes in some tunnel, he dropped from the lead group of favorites behind the chase, then rejoined and attacked the chasers.

yes, I was just checking as well. you're right. I guess that must've been the attack Evans said he wishes he should've followed because he had the legs.

dont think so, he finished ahead of Contador and Levi, with Valverde, Moreau(highest placed clean rider), Schleck, and Kasechkin, with Mayo and Rasmussen ahead.

I'd like that to be the case.

Considering a few posts up, a link was posted to cyclingnews which has all of the stage profiles - are you really too lazy to just find out yourself?

I couldn't know that it was so steep, there were more downhill finishes.
I'm lazy
I'm really looking forward to try Cime de la Bonette this summer! and the downhill... |

2802 metres at Cime de la Bonette!!! After a 2351m top, two HC!! That is a fantastic stage, even it's short and don't have top finish. |

Thomas Dekker went to the Alp stages to test and see the stages, but on all 2000m mountains there was snow and the roads were shutdown He could only do the stage to Prato Nevoso
So I hope it's better weather next month... otherwise we get a tour without alps |

Looking like a nice Tour in my opinion, I doubt Evans will win after seeing it. My vote is for Valverde or Moreau, or maybe Cunego ( though I'm still not sure if he really is a grand tour rider ) |
