Barzan Towers - Doha Golf Club : 135.8 kms

Team Strategy

This is a huge race for us, this is one our sponsor is really looking at and we need to product some results here in Qatar. We've brought Taylor Phinney over form the classics team to help with the Time Trial. Nacer Bouhanni is going to be our sprints with Adrien Petit leading him out behind Taylor Phinney. Petit, don't give up after the lead out, continue to the line, your a great sprinter in your right mind.

Race Results

After a few tries the peleton finally let a break of three get away. The only real threat in it would be G. Gardeyn a German rider on the Champion Sport System team. At the first sprint point it would be the German taking first, with R. Dennis taking second and A. Semple finish third. S. Maxciarelli (Aqua Sapone) would attack from the peleton and get the gap to the morning breakaway. When Maxciarelli caught the break, they would have a 5'30" lead on the peleton.

G. Gardeyn, A Semple, and R. Dennis were today three man break away.

RadioShack - Nissan, Orica - GreenEdge and Lotto - Belisol would take up the chase and start to reel the breakaway back on an the time begain to melt quickly. Hermans, King, and Wagner were doing a lot of work at the front for RadioShack - Nissan.

Buy the time the breakaway got to the seocnd sprint point, Umm Suwaiya Farm, the gap was under three minutes. This time R. Dennis would win the intermediate sprint and Gorik Gardeyn would take second, and Adam Semple took third. Shortly after that sprint point, the breakaway would shut down as they knew the peleton was closing in.

Gorik Gardeyn would win this intermediate sprint.

Orica - GreenEdge, Lotto - Belisol, and Century 21 all had great lead outs and would deliver their men to the line, A. Greipel (Lotto - Belisol) would prove to me the fastest today as he easily took the stage by more than two bike lengths. B. Cooke (Orica - GreenEdge)would finish second a bike length in front of a charging Nacer Bouhanni (Century 21) who edged Swift to the line by a wheel. Adrien Petit, the lead out for Bouhanni would finish in 6th as he didn't give up on the sprint. Matthew Goss (Orica - GreenEdge) would round out the top five on today stage giving Orica - GreenEdge two riders in the Top five.

André Greipel was first on the line today.

Julien Vermote was involved in a crash and would finish behind the group by almost six minutes. Other in the crash would be Mirko Selvaggi (Vancansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team) who would finish 3'10" behind.
