Well. Luis Leon and Vanendert was the best sprinters in the group. So he can match them but no way can he match a supersprinter. And he won't be able to do that later on, I guarantee that.

Finishing way down on stage 2, a sprinter stage, we now knew that Luis wasn’t becoming a sprinter. Anyway on stage 3 it was back to business for the young Mexican.
We remember the day with the sound of Eurosport. Take it away Mark Russell.
“Here we enter the final climb of the day. A group of approx. 25 riders. (…) And now look who takes the lead. It’s Jiménez. (…) What a pace this lad is setting. The group is slowly thinning out. (…) He is really pushing now! What a killing machine! (…) Only Cunego, Rodriguez, Horner, Klöden and Scarponi can keep up. (…) He doesn’t even attack just slowly kills them one by one. A true master. (…)”
“And now Rodriguez starts the sprint. (…) Luis just takes his wheel trying to be cool. (…) Cunego can’t keep up and the rest is already left behind. This is a man vs. man duel. (…) Rodriguez looks safe for the win. (…) No, he didn’t! He comes Jiménez taking his second win of the race and the leaders jersey as well. (…) Some clever riding from him! (…)”
Stage result:
1. Luis Jiménez - Caja Rural
2. Joaquím Rodríguez - Katusha - (s.t.)
3. Chris Horner - RadioShack - (+19")
We would also like to thank one of our followers who sent this picture. Poor animal.

@Ian Butler - I was actually surprised too. He had pulled all the way up so I just decided to contra-sprint Rodriguez. Then I saw he could follow him and then I sprinted past him before the finish.

I don't think Rodriguez is capable of the emotion hating he always seems so smilingly, when he lost 1st place in Giro, he still smiled on the podium, same for Vuelta! great man |

Stage 4 and 5 didn’t go well for young Luis Jiménez. Actually he lost his leaders jersey and dropped out of the fight for the GC win. He held both his points- and young rider jersey though.
The last stage was a 19 km time trial. I got the chance of talking with him before the stage.
Mikel: “Luis, what are your expectations today, can you win this?”
Luis: “Win? No, I don’t think so. I plan to go through without losing my 7th spot. Hopefully I can take a spot or two in the other direction.”
Mikel: “I haven’t talked to you in a long time. So congratulations on the win in Catalunya. Great riding, how was it?”
Luis: “I was ecstatic. I mean when I crossed the line for the last time in Catalunya I didn’t really believe what I had achieved. My first WT stage race and I had won it. Unbelievable, right?”
Mikel: “Unbelievable, yes. You also got a great start here in Pais Vasco. What went wrong on the last two days?”
Luis: “I don’t know really. My legs just couldn’t follow the others pace. I tried my best but I wasn’t good enough. You know, I’m still young so I can hopefully get the chance of winning this race in the future. I certainly hope so.”
Mikel: “I’m sure you will. Best of luck for today!”
Luis: “Thanks!”
Luis rolls down the starting ramp. What can he achieve today?
Luis comes across the checkpoint 28th so far. 38 seconds behind leader Tony Martin.
And here he comes across the finish line as 11th so far. 49 seconds behind leader and stage winner Tony Martin. Luis ends 15th on the stage, but as he feared he lost one spot in the GC ending up 8. He held his points jersey just 4 points ahead of Luis León Sánchez who came 2nd in the TT. He also held his U25 jersey extending his lead by 2 seconds.
Stage result
1. Tony Martin - Omega Pharma
2. Luis León Sánchez - Rabobank - (+31")
3. Maxime Monfort - RadioShack - (+32")
---
15. Luis Jiménez - Caja Rural - (+49")
Final GC
1. Chris Horner - RadioShack
2. Joaquím Rodríguez - Katusha - (+39")
3. Rui Costa - Movistar - (+1'29")
---
8. Luis Jiménez - Caja Rural - (+2'45") |

To finish just 49s behind Tony Martin in a time trial is a great achievement
And to finish 8th on the GC is just great |

Thanks everyone! I bet Tony wasn't in the best shape. But as you can see it was pretty close from 2nd and down.
I have a lot school stuff and other things to do, so there probably won't be an update before Sunday.
