AMEXpc 2014 TRANSFER RUMORS
RIDERS WHO MAYBE ON THE MOVE
There is no doubt that sprinter Danilio Kupfernagel will not return for 2014. He seasons never got untracked at the PCT level. He looks to be much better suited for the CT. By seasons end he was as glad to leave as the team was to see him go.
Several riders appear to be in the spotlight as we approach the re-signing period. Carlos Barredo and Sylvain Chavanel are being review carefully. Barredo will be 33 and Chavanel will be 35. Rumors are that one and maybe both of them may not be re-signed.
Another rider who may need a change of address is cobbler (78) Fabien Taillefour. With Eisel and Breschel AMEX feels that Taillefour is the odd man out.
It appears that AMEX wants to shed some salaries. This past season made it clear that having only a strong Cobble team will keep them at the bottom of the PCT standings. They need to find another productive leader on the Hills or in the Mountains.
The real key that has not yet resolved itself yet is how patient AMEX's manager and sponsors will be with the team. If they want results now then AMEX would likely reach out and contact some of the top riders from the disbanded teams. If they buy into the growth process then AMEX may be allowed to invest a couple of top younger riders. That decision will come into focus during the resigning period.
Next we will discuss the types of riders AMEX will most likely be seeking in the 2014 transfer period. (Check back tomorrow)

Now why would an American team looking for uphill riders be interested in Joe Dombrowski?

We are happy to see Kupfernagel leaving Amex, the VolksWagen management believes that he could be a new an by moving home to Germany.

The real question is can anybody outside of the PT really afford Dombrowski. AMEX would love to find him a home. Maybe the best shot we have at him to let the PT teams know we would take him on loan.
The hardest decision for AMEX is to go for a young climber of to find a moderate priced veteran climber. We have no illusions about contending for a promotion to the PT in 2014. We just want to show steady growth.

Taillefour 'would have all the freedom he wants' at Kazzinc
The French northern classics specialist is said to be team manager Pelli's first choice as captain for the races involving cobblestones - an area which his team intends to expand in for the upcoming season.
Some sort of swap deal - with riders going both directions - is also reported to be considered. Whether that sort of transfer would be of interest to AMEX Pro Cycling however, is an entirely different question!

Fabien Taillefour is unhappy with how he was raced in 2013 and is seeking new opportunities where he can be a cobbles leader or at least a #2 cobbler.
"AMEX never gave me a chance to show them what I can do. I was always relegated to protecting Eisel or Breschel. I am ready to breakout!"
When asked about Fabien's comments, Team Manager Martyn Haly commented.
"He wants a bigger role, but we may not be able to give it to him. We do not want unhappy riders on our team, so as unfortunate as this will be we will entertain offers in the Transfer season."

Kupfernagel has failed to contact the team trainers for his off-season training regime. Attempts to contact him at his home in Germany and in Rio De Janeiro where he is reportedly on holiday have gone repeatedly unanswered..
Rumors are that the relations between the German sprinter and AMEXpc are so ruptured he will not even return their calls or e-mails.
An unnamed source within the AMEXpc offices reports that unless Kupfernagel starts to respond to the teams efforts to contact him, other options for the teams sprint leader will have to be considered.

After a dismal season in 2013 a major overhaul is likely for AMEXpc in the off season. Let's look at the Good, Bad and the Ugly of 2013.
The Good:
The season got off to a solid start with the Cobbled season. Leader Bernhard Eisel showed he still had the legs to be a threat in every PCT cobble race. Matti Breschel bided his time as his lieutenant and showed he is a capable future leader. Breschel will be back for sure as we expect so will Eisel. AMEX may seek a new cobble leader but budget limitations will likely deter those hopes. Last year they tried to pry Danny Summerhill away from Wikipedia to no avail. Only a very tough salary renegotiation period for Wiki might make him an option. Rumors are that AMEX has contacted other teams about a top cobble domestique. The names Langenveld and Wyants surface in whispered tones. Taillefour appears on his way out. He can not unseat Breschel or Eisel, so he wants out. That leaves the young American Robert Bush as #3 or #4.
Little else of the season was good.
The Bad:
The Bad was the lack of success on the hills. AMEX by design avoided all the mountainous races, but they had hopes for some success on the hills. Carlos Barredo was the leader on paper, but his style of late attacks seldom surprised in the PCT. The aging veteran Sylvain Chavanel was more consistent and kept this area from being another disaster. Do not expect Chavanel to return his tenure was only planned for a single season. Barrado will likely return but not in the leaders role. AMEX is in the market for a new leader on the hills. One highlight was the growth and progress made by the young German Jan Dieteren. He looks like a keeper.
The Ugly:
The Ugly was really ugly. AMEX's sprint efforts were disjointed, lacked leadership and as a result they found ways to implode race after race. Only Jake Keough had some success and that was at the C2 level. He will likely be back but a top offer from a C2 team where he could be a sprint leader might change his mind. Danilio Kupfernagel fizzled and took the heat for the disaster, but in reality the sprint season was doomed by not getting good leadout men. Tyler Farrar was uselessly saved for the North American races and by then the sprint season was in chaos. The young German kids Rudiger Selig and Theo Reinhardt have future potential but were not ready for the leadout roles in 2013.
Some expect AMEX to send them all packing and go back to climbers, but that would be too expensive and it would likely end in relegation back to the CT in 2015. A more reasonable solution would be to let the kids develop and find a new leader and go into 2014 will much lower expectations.
This would allow AMEX to pull Euros out of Kupfernagel, Taillefour and Chavanel and maybe even Farrar contracts to secure either an elite young prospect that they missed in 2013 or a solid PCT level Hills leader.
Faces seen in the AMEpc parking lot over the last two weeks:
Linus Gerdemann, Joe Dombrowski (but reports are he is visiting every PCT and PT team), Luke Keough the younger brother of Jake accompanied his brother on a training ride last Friday. Tim Duggan stopped by last Wednesday and Saul Raisen is due in to meet the manager on Monday.

AMEXpc has completed their renewals. Specific details will not be available immediately.
Rumors continue to swirl around the AMEX HQ in Salt Lake City that 1 or 2 riders from the 2013 roster are interested in finding new starts on a new team. All three want to be team leaders or at least key support and have asked permission to seek opportunities in the CT. While no specifics can be stated as fact, the names of Tyler Farrar, Aggrey Sebright and Sylvain Chavanel seem the likely candidates.
