A hilly race but more for the mountain climbers. I am not in fitness right now but Chris Anker Sorenson or Chris Froome could have a chance for a top 10 finish. I am hoping for at least a top 50.

The Race

Just before the start I was told that I would be trying to get in the break along with Nordhaug. This may be a good opportunity for me.

About 1km into the race I attacked along with Nordhaug.

My group was joined by Pires of Saxo Bank. The 3 of us were now 52 seconds ahead.

A leading group of 8 formed including; myself, Nordhaug, Karpets, Pires, Pinotti, Horrach, De Clerq and Zabriskie. We had 51 seconds on the peloton.

Suddenly I was struggling to stay with the breakaway so instead of killing my legs for the GP de Romandie in 2 days I decided it would be better to either drop back or pull out.

After another 5km my legs were really bad so I decided to pull out of the race. I am disappointed that it was only 50km in but I didnâ€™t know my fitness was going to be this bad. Anyway back to the race.

Out front Nordhaug had gotten into a breakaway of 8 riders consisting of basically the same people except for Pate and Garate.

With 190km to go the leading group with Nordhaug was 1.43 ahead of the peloton. There were now 14 riders in the leading group with Kessiakof trying to catch up.

137km to go and there is a new breakaway this time with only 4 riders in it. They are; Nordhaug, Van Groen, Sijmens and Perget. They are 3.46 ahead. Behind Vaugrenaud and Nieve have attacked to try and catch up to the leading group.

Nieve and Vaugrenaud make the junction 10km later and make a leading group of 6 riders. The group is 4.50 ahead of the peloton.

With 100km to go the leading group of 6 was now 6.33 ahead of the peloton. The very hilly section is about to start.

Nicki Sorenson attacked with 96km to go.

With 60km to go the leading group of 2 (Nieve and Vaugrenaud) was 5.07 ahead of the peloton. It will be close but I think they will be brought back.

With 40km to go the leading group of 2 are now the only riders out in front. They hold a gap of 3.44 on the peloton lead by Garmin, Radioshack and Katusha.

The first of the favorites attacked with 33km to go. First was Vinokourov then F.Schleck who had a big lead on the peloton at the top of the climb.

A group of 12 favorites formed and in there for AXA was Nicki Sorenson and EBH both having a great Leige already.

With 20km to go the leading group was only 1.29 ahead of the 12 favorites.

With 18km to go the inevitable happened and both EBH and Sorenson dropped off the favorites group.

At the front the race is heating up with a lot of attacks happening. The main one is by Frank Schleck himself who gets a massive lead with 15km to go.

With 4km to go F.Schleck is still out front but Gilbert is only 15 seconds behind. Can Schleck hold on?

With 1km to go Schleck had 10 seconds on Gilbert. The final sprint is about to start.

A 5.5km prologue. I have real shot at winning today.

The Race

Anthony Roux set of early and set the fastest time 7 seconds ahead of 2nd place.

About midway through the field the TT world champion started his race.

Rouxâ€™s time stood until Cancellara came through and beat it by 2 seconds.

Danielson set of as the next of the favorites. He finished in 9th place 11 seconds behind the winner.

Jack Bobridge was the next to leave. He was 15th 13 seconds behind the eventual winner.

Farrar left with only about 25 riders to go. He had a great rode bumping Cancellara down to 2nd place by 2 seconds.

Boonen was next. He did a 7.28 and was 11 seconds behind the winner

Cav was next to go following the Astana rider Gavazzi. Cav came in 16th place 26 seconds behind.

The next favorite was the Spanish national champion LL Sanchez. He managed to get 17th 13 seconds of the pace.

Then came Tony Martin who is the German TT champion. He was the real upset only coming 49th 20 seconds behind.

The it was my turn. I was feeling great as I went down the starting ramp.

With 500m to go I was looking good but was starting to tire.

Going over the line I looked back to see if I had beaten the time of Farrar. My name didnâ€™t show up then I heard from my manager say that I had done great and equaled with Cancellara 2 seconds behind Farrar.

Samuel Sanchez came over the line as the last rider and the top 5 hadnâ€™t changed. That means I came 3rd place and is already 3rd overall. A great start to the Dauphine for me and the team.

A hill stage so most likely were I will lose the most time. I need to be very cautious today.

The Race

Mark Cavendish and Karsten Kroon started of the attacks.

The 2 leaders quickly got a gap of 1.38 on the peloton and 21 seconds on the chasing group of 3. The chasing group caught up and made a group of 3 about 2 minutes ahead of the peloton.

On the first climb of the day there was a leading group of 6 containing; Vaugrenaud, Denifl, Gerrans, Kroon, Krivtsov and our very own Cavendish.
They are 1.52 ahead of the peloton and 1 minute ahead of Vangenechten.

To everyone's surprise, Cav actually stayed with the leading group going up the hill. Great effort by him.

Going up the 2nd last climb of the day Cav was doing a great job. Back in the pack, a split has happened leaving behind 89 riders with now only 58 riders out front. 5 people missed the split and they were; Krueziger, Samuel Sanchez, Rodriguez, Anton and Cancellara.

Cav managed to stay with the front group over the 2nd last climb. Great effort Cav.

With 40km to go the breakaway group only had 1.11 on the peloton.

I told Clarke to get on the front and catch the breakaway. So that's what he did.

With 30km to go the break was caught mostly by the work of Clarke.

With 12.5km to go it was time for me to attack so Chris Sorenson launched me and I was gone.

I got 43 seconds on the next group on the road. That was a group of 13 which included; Szmyd, C.Sorenson, Tankink, Sarmiento, Clarke, Danielson, Nordhaug, Zaugg, Basso, Hejedal, Monier, Verdugo and Gavazzi.

I got caught with 6km to go and Danielson was off.

With 1.5km to go Danielson was the only one from our team in the front group. I had dropped of about 50m before.

The sprint started up front and Moncoutie hit the front. Can he hold off the others?

Yes he can. Moncoutie wins just ahead of Basso Siutsou. Danielson still managed to get 5th place.

I finished about 45 seconds behind. Lucky for us Danielson stayed in the
front group and might be in the overall after the stage.
