Wow some of the names of these riders don't half bring back some memories for me
The likes of Phil Anderson and Steven Rooks were the riders who were around when i first got into cycling |

I started watching the Tour de France in the period when Indurain was winning everything. I like this period a lot because although it must have been boring. So far the starting fields of the races Banesto particpated in was relatively weak. Also the Vuelta a Murcia is not very good. The big races still have to come. The Vuelta a Murcia is the last of the smaller races for Banesto. After that it is Paris - Nice, the Tirreno Adriatico, Milan - San Remo, the Criterium International and the Vuelta a Catalunya. I'm looking forward to these... |

It's going to be really good when the big races start to appear |

But first a flat stage of the Vuelta a Murcia, which finished in a mass sprint. Oh wait...

Banesto does not have sprinters. It is not a slow start. There is just nothing to gain from the Banesto boys in a flat stage. Unless via a breakaway, which didn't make it to the finish this stage. Next stage will be more interesting with a finish on top of a mountain. Although, sprinting uphill may be a major problem as well. We'll see. And in case of a failure. No problem, as the Vuelta a Murcia is only 3 stages. It is so annoying to play another dozen of stages from a beaten position. |

Gorospe had to leave a small gap on the top of the last mountain and just couldn't cling on in the decent. Too bad. He finished alone before a second group, but they all got the same time, so he still has a lot of work to do to secure a 12th place. Not good...

Several Italian teams seem to gamble on Paris - Nice instead of the Tirreno, while some of the French teams left their big guns at home. Otherwise a pretty nice starting field with several great names. This will be interesting. Also very little sprinters appeared at the start so it is key to have riders in the breakaways...

Philipot got into the breakaway but failed to make any impression in the sprint.

The finale of the Vuelta a Murcia. The ITT was quite exciting as still eleven riders had a chance on the victory of the Tour. To bad none of them rode for Banesto...
