Vuelta a Mallorca - Race Preview
Vuelta a Mallorca (2.1)
05/02/2012 - 08/02/2012
05/02/2012
Stage 1
Palma - Palma : 110.3 kms
Ten laps to the 11kms circuit inside the Palma de Mallorca city. It will be a hard stage between the street of Palma, probably ended with a mass sprint.
06/02/2012
Stage 2
Son Severa - Cala Minor : 170.4 kms
The hills starts at Mallorca but with only two 4th category climbs it won't be a problem for the sprinters to win this stage too.
07/02/2012
Stage 3
Deia - Deia : 140.9 kms
The fireworks begin at the third stage of the Vuelta a Mallorca. Five 2nd category climbs and a hard climb at the end will select the group for the general classification.
08/02/2012
Stage 4
Inca - Inca : 152.5 kms
It's all up and down at the last stage. Three 3rd category climbs and the last one of 2nd category but not scoring one, will drive the best climbers to the battle for the podium.

Shouldn't it be Mallorca - startlist instead of TDU?
Nieve should be able to pull off something great here! |

@sutty68: It's a good race for Mikel to start stretching his legs. It took me quite a long time to do the startlist, Specially when there are too many riders.
@Ian Butler: Thank you for the correction!
@RedDisciple: It's great to read that! I'll try to post more but I don't have too much time to play and write here.
I'll try to have the Tour of Qatar report written this afternoon. I prefer to write day by day than race by race, cause I'm not playing so fast to finish one race and have all the reports written at the same time. |

Tour of Qatar - Race Preview
Tour of Qatar (2.1)
05/02/2012 - 10/02/2012
Sponsor | Goal | Importance | Euskadi | Stage win(s) | |
05/02/2012
Stage 1
Barzan Towers - Doha Golf Club : 135.8 kms
The Tour of Qatar starts with this plain stage of 135.8kms. Is the second shortest stage excluding the ITT.
06/02/2012
Stage 2
Lusail : 10.3 kms
A small timetrial that could be the only chance for specialist to take time from sprinters in the GC battle.
07/02/2012
Stage 3
Dukhan - Al Gharafa Stadium : 153.5 kms
Flat and massive sprint.
08/02/2012
Stage 4
Al Thakhira - Madinat Al Shamal : 150.1 kms
And more flat and more sprint.
09/02/2012
Stage 5
Camel Race Track - Al Khor Corniche : 144.5 kms
Guess what??? More flat and sprints.
10/02/2012
Stage 6
Sealine Beach Resort - Doha Corniche : 106.8 kms
Yes! It's the final stage of the borest stage race of the season. Unless the wind could mess things up, this will be winning by a good sprinter with decent TT, may be Boasson Hagen.
Team Goals
Strangely for us, Euskadi has set a stage win as a minor goal for the team. May be they want qatari investors in the Basque Country. We bring our best sprinters to this race, Ruben Perez and Pablo Urtasun will be our co-leaders here.

Vuelta a Mallorca - Stage 1 Report
05/02/2012
Stage 1
Palma - Palma : 110.3 kms
The Vuelta a Mallorca has started and the speed and intensity are very high. It takes really too much time to form the break, but finally two riders manage to do it. Javier Chacón (ESP/ACG) and Matteo Rabottini (ITA/FAR) creates a gap of 5 minutes but the sprinter teams will not allow them go too much far.
Javier Chacón (ESP/ACG) and Matteo Rabottini (ITA/FAR) downhilling before they were caught by the peloton.
With 15kms to the line the break is over and the sprinter teams start to prepare their trains. Inside the team, Gorka Izagirre is feeling good and he will try to find a good wheel at the end. The rest of the team is protecting Mikel Nieve.
The strongest man today was not a big name in the group, but a good sprinter of the Team Europcar. May be the uphill finish helped him but Sébastien Turgot (FRA/EUC) won't care about it. He took a deserved victory ahead of Grega Bole (SVN/LAM) and Robert Hunter (RSA/GRS).
Sébastien Turgot (FRA/Euc) surprises all the big sprinters and wins the first stage in Palma de Mallorca.
Gorka Izagirre (ESP/EUS) finished in 17th place, being the best Euskaltel's rider.

@sutty68: Absolutely nothing!
@Ian Butler: I prefer not to mix things. Some basques don't like to be called spanish, and some do, and some basques are french too, so let's keep it out of nationalities. |

@Avin Wargunnson: Thank you very much! Is going to be hard to get a stage win in Qatar, specially with the big sprinters names there are, Bennati, Gallopin, Boasson Hagen, Kittel, Napolitano, Demare, Hutarovich, etc. We will try to enter in breaks after the TT to see if we can fight for the win.
I updated startlist numbers for Tour of Qatar, and tomorrow I'll try to do the report for stage 1. |

Tour of Qatar - Stage 1 Report
05/02/2012
Stage 1
Barzan Towers - Doha Golf Club : 135.8 kms
After several attacks a group of five riders formed the break of the day. Matthew Brammeier (IRE/OPQ), Stijn Ennekens (BEL/SKT), Jonas Aaen Jørgensen (DEN/STB), Claudio Corioni (ITA/ASA) and Jacob Rathe (USA/GRS).
The five escapees riding on the flat qataris roads in a cloudy day.
The breakaway created a gap of 5 minutes but the bunch didn't allow it to grow up. Obviously the sprinter teams didn't want surprises.
Jonas Aaen Jørgensen (DEN/STB) taking the first position in one of the two intermediate sprints of the day.
With 15kms to go the peloton caught the break and all the teams prepared themselves to the final sprint. We tried to set our men at the front so they could start fighting from a good position.
Arnaud Demare (FRA/FDJ) was the fastest man ahead of Marcel Kittel (GER/ARG) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (NOR/SKY).
We could put Ruben Perez and Pablo Urtasun in good position at the end, but the man of the day was Arnaud Demare (FRA/FDJ). The frenchman was too fast for everyone and took the first stage and the leader jersey of the Tour of Qatar. Marcel Kittel (GER/ARG) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (NOR/SKY) completed the podium while Ruben Perez (ESP/EUS) finished at 7th place and Pablo Urtasun (ESP/EUS) in 11th position.
