Just a completely irrelevent question, considering that next year's tour is the 100th tour, will the race organisers try and make it the hardest tour ever? Maybe with 2 ITT's like this year, a few HC summit finishes?

They should do something spectacular. However a hard route does not automatically mean good racing. Personally I like this years route, but it would be perfect with one extra mountain stage.

What's more important than the route is the riders and a less nervous peloton. That destroys the race more than a bad route.

I think this years tour shows perfectly that the route doesn't matter as long as there is or isn't any racing. With one more mountaintop finish this year the favourites would just be like; yeah, don't need to attack yet because there's another hard stage coming up.

Do what you like, but cycling is as it is at the moment. Can't see it changing (back) to long range attacks by favorites.

I expect we will see some horrible days in the Pyrenees and the Alps, maybe a few gravel roads and definitely some very long TT's. Also maybe a long TTT.

Well, if EBH isn't a stage racer, how did he pace over the Tourmalet?

Sagan is a sprinter and finished 2nd in a mountain stage.... Not being a stage racer doesn't mean he can climb a bit.

Sagan is Sagan, uncomperable Wink But true is that EBH is the closest type to him of all cyclists nowadays...

Sagan is Sagan Smile
it is just a matter of time when Sagan becomes a GC rider, he is such a unique talent...in 2 years, if he trains for mountains and TT, he will be there for yellow jersey
right now he is in 36th position, by far the best "sprinter"Banana

Sagan (green jersey) finishes 2nd on MOUNTAIN stage. There is a problem in that stage. I think he'll be race for yellow jersey in 5 years. Eh , what about Cav , he was the first on the peloton in Asbique. He is training for olympics to do World Champ - Olmpics double.

More or less the same here, as coincidentally or not, next year's route usually seems designed to suit the current winner's abilities.
US Postal were very good at TTT, TTT were back during Armstrong years and then vanished.
Contador became the new favourite : we got many mountain finish, but no more TTT, etc.
That logic has been around for a long while, I tend to think it's not going to vanish any time soon, so long not so step mountains, long ITT, and a TTT. That's what I'm expecting.

My opinion:
100% - Alpe du Huez and Mt.Ventoux (2 legendary climbs, MTF)
ADH is there every second year (2011, 2008, 2006, 2004) so next year should be also
Mt.Ventoux - in recent years only in 2009, but it is a spectacular MTF, very hard

1.there were some really stupid stages in recent years with great climbs like 50-60km from the finish, that is true, TdF must get rid of these type of stages
2.on the other hand, the course itself does not make the race interesting, when there is no competition like this year, or the riders are not attacking

5 MTF with lot of long HC climbs are also not good way to make the race interesting, because everybody will be affraid of coming stages, everybody will say we have still plenty of mountains left and everybody will just look around, wait and save energy....
it just need to be somewhere in the middle, with maybe 2x HC MTF and one or two finishes on climbs like the Granier this year (not over 10km but steep enough) - sometimes there really need to be only 3-4km but really steep
from my point of view, I would rather see riders fighting 3-4 times for 30 seconds on such a small steep climbs, than 3 stages waiting and 1 stage battling for 2minutes...

That makes sense, plus, they don't want to kill the riders either.
