Stage 1 TTT
The pre-race favorites are Sky, RadioShack and BMC. 16 km of TTT mean that riders will have to give all and arrive totally empty at the finish.
(I don't like playing TTs so I always simulate)

Well, I have done well in some TTT, but it's better the longer they are. And as such I just simulate, because you usually get a pretty realistic result. This was better than expected though. But I guess having everyone form 90+ helps as well.

I agree that TTT has most realistic results when simulated, good luck at Tirreno.

233 km say it all, the terrain is tough so the winner will be a strong one. Most people name Cunego, Valverde or Nibali as their favorite.
Today sees a break of 13, with Favilli as a late addition. He managed to bridge the gap as the peloton had just shut down another bridging attempt. Biggest names in the break are Kroon, Fedrigo and R Feillu.
The break work well together and at the 2nd KoM they have an advantage of almost 9 minutes. But there are still 120 kilometers to ride so all looks well in hand for the peloton. Selig has picked up the most points on the way, getting 1st and 3rd at the 2 summits that have points.
Astana, Movistar and Sky keep a controlled pace and always have the breakaway in range. As we enter the laps with 70 to go the gap is down to 6'30". On the first short climb the peloton splits due to the high pace and the length of the stage. Several sprinters like Bos, Brown and Swift miss out. Also Gesinks lieutenant Mollema can't keep the pace and has to let the peloton go.
30 to go sees Feillu winning his 2nd intermediate sprint. The gap is at 2'30". Favilli gets into trouble and has to let the others go. He's still a bit to young for this kind of racing, but he's shown our colors all day.
With 25 to go some riders in the peloton don't believe in their chances in a mass sprint and attack. Breschel and Vandewalle get a gap and the peloton slows down.
This hesitation gives the break more room and the strongest in there want to drop useless cargo now. Kroon attacks first, followed by Feillu and Santaromita. At 15 to go these 3 have a minute on the others and 3'25" on the pack.
So this looks like the decisive move and indeed the peloton doesn't accelerate again. Breschel and Vandewalle reach the rests of the break, but get stuck there. Feillu and Kroon work together and drop Santaromita after the last climb. 5 to go and it's just them 2.
And Feillu is crafty. He takes Kroons wheel and refuses to take over. So there's nothing left for Kroon but to lead out Feillu.
And the Frenchman won't miss an opportunity like that. He takes the win easily.
The peloton comes in 2'23" down, Pozzato wins the peloton sprint for 15th. Freire looked especially strong though, making up 20 positions in the final 500 meters.
This means Kroon gets the leader jersey as a consolation price, as Saxo did better than Vacansoleil in the TTT.

Stage 3
The easiest day in this years Tirreno, the names most frequently mentioned for the stage victory are Cavendish, Greipel and Farrar.
The usual fight for the break ensues early on, but especially Lampre doesn't allow too big a break. At a certain moment even Cunego is chasing a 17 strong break. Giordani is active for us in this stage and he gets into the right move with Ginanni and Pagani. Paganis teammate Colbrelli tries to bridge later on and although he comes within 30 seconds he never makes it all the way.
Ginanni is clearly the strongest taking both KoM and 2nd intermediate sprint. The 3 get a maximum advantage of 6'45", but Lampre and Lotto chase them down and make the catch with just over 10 to go.
Now the positioning for the sprint starts. And while Lotto has done the most work in the 2nd half of the stage to chase the breakaway it's Lampre with the biggest train. At 5 to go Petacchi has 3 riders in front of him.
Greipel has Henderson and Gatto leads Pozzato and Guardini at the right side of the road.
3,5 to go and Lampre is still going strong, Cavendish, Farrar and Rojas have pushed back Greipel somewhat. Our train is battling with Goss, Bozic and Belletti for Greipels wheel.
2 to go and Lampres first lead out man has burned himself in the sprint. Cavendish somehow got blocked by him, while Henderson makes a strong move on the left to position Greipel. Pozzato tries to make up ground for Guardini on the right.
1 to go and Petacchi has to do it alone. Greipel has pushed himself onto the Italians wheel, followed by Goss and Bozic. Pozzato starts to fade, but Guardini looks empty as well. Belletti makes a move up the middle.
And then the last 500 meters. It's clear Petacchi hasn't timed right and he is passed left and right. Bozic looks strongest while Cavendish and Freire make a strong come back. Our sprinters fade somewhat sadly.
And it's indeed Bozic who timed it right. Cavendish looked fastest, but he gets blocked again, this time by Goss. Bad luck for the world champion.

Yes, this race proves we truly are continental. Only Pozzato can compete on the high level in this race, the others aren't strong enough (yet).
I think some people in Belgium have seen Pozzato however, as we've received a wildcard for the E3. So another chance for Pozzato to show his skills on the cobbles.

Stage 4
Arguably the queens stage of this years edition. Cunego, Gesink and Valverde are the favorites for this one.
It takes a while for the break to form. On the first KoM the group hasn't coalesced yet. Brambilla leads over Martinez and Monfort 24" over Miholjevic and Paolini. 1'42" behind those two comes a late Casar. He already has 2'37" on the pack.
The peloton wants to take it easy now, but Ascani is giving off good signs so far so Hulsmans and Gatto are sent up front to do some chasing.
The Saxo boys around Kroon can take it easy. The 6 up front have all linked up, however their gap is kept under 3 minutes. With 110 to go new attacks start. Bertagnolli and Barredo go first, but Florencio and Chainel are next. With 80 to go we even get a big move by Nibali. Hulsmans and Gatto are tiring and can't keep the attacks under control.
At the foot of the Passo Lanciano all riders up front have gathered in a group 15 riders strong. Big names are Rujano, Nibali and Monfort. But the gap looks reassuring as it's only 1'19". On the climb Movistar moves up and pushes the tempo. The peloton can;t take this and really shatters.
Ascani makes it into the front group of 20, but the others are all further back. Also missing out is race leader Kroon. He is way back and looks like he will lose the jersey today.
Nibali tops the giant climb first, accompanied by Bertagnolli. Rujano and Barredo are 13" back. 53" behind Nibali the best 9 from the peloton are the next to reach the summit and Ascani does great, he's still there!
On the long descent Nibali shows his specialty. He drops bertagnolli and extends his lead. Back in the valley the chasing favorites are all back together, but now face a gap of 2'52"!
This means the cooperation breaks down. Cunego realizes he's too late, but still attacks. Others get into trouble. On the second to last climb this results in more splits and sadly enough Ascani was positioned too far back while still able to hold the tempo.
At 5 to go Nibali still holds 2'14" on Cunego and 3'14" on the best of the rest. (Tiralongo, Bruseghin, Valverde and Zaugg) Ascani is down another 30" but still maintains his pace. He's opened up quite a gap back to Gesink and others.
But no one takes this day away from Nibali, he gets a huge victory.
Ascani holds on to 7th and even gets a bit closer to Valverde who cracks in the end.

Great result for Ascani there. Maybe a swoop for an Italian stage racer during the winter if you become a World Tour team? |

@Freitas Really nice to hear that. Enjoying myself as well.
@jph I hope we don't promote yet. Some of my riders could use another year of development. Also after March/early April the racing stops till about July really, so other teams will catch up.
Speaking of next season, Kevin Hulsmans has renewed his contract with us and his expertise on the cobbles will be an asset for seasons to come.

Very good result for Ascani, i also hope you will bring some talented stage race, even to the still continental level ( not any superstar, but some young promising italian like Cattaneo or Ulissi)
