@ FreitasPCM: Thank you Pinot has been great here and Demare has been good too, I think if he hadn't of been involved in the crash on Stage 4 he could have gained even better results
@ RMCF 1902: Thanks! Pinot just wasn't strong enough to hang in there with Spilak at the end but still pleased with the result! |

Stage 10 - Shah Alam to Kuala Lumpur
The final stage of the 2012 edition of the Tour de Langkawi and it should be a day for the sprinters here as it is generally flat.
Favourites: Kittel (1t4i), Demare (FDJ), Lacombe (Spidertech)
A 2-man break went away early containing Kovaler (RusVelo) and Wurf (Champion) but the gap was held steady by FDJ and Project 1t4i at 2 mins for most of the day. They were eventually caught with 20km to go. With 15km to go, a huge crash happened wiping out a 1/3rd of the peloton and Trofimov (Katusha), the man who was 3rd in the GC!
I don't believe it! Another huge crash with 10km to go wipes out the entire field except a group of 15 at the front, which contained every FDJ rider! Kittel is down, so no victory for him today! Wait! Spilak is down too! The yellow jersey wearer is not in the front group! Pinot could have a chance at a win here!
And there he is! Pinot driving the front group along to gain time on Spilak to try and gain the lead in the race! Forget Demare and the sprint we sent all of our riders to the front to set a ferocious pace so Spilak would not be able to get back on!
Lacombe takes victory here from Markov (RusVelo) and Ljungblad ()! Pinot is awarded the same time as the sprinters and we wait and see if Spilak can possibly keep hold of his lead in the GC! But Spilak crosses the line almost 2 mins down! Pinot wins the Tour de Langkawi in the most crazy of circumstances!

(A weird victory for the team to say the least, but we will take it! We have had a great performance here from our riders and even though a stage win eluded us, we still have, amazingly, come away with the overall win! The second crash started by one of Kittel's leadout train crashing and wiping out everyone behind him. Lucky for us our team was on the other side of the road and wasn't affected. Now we move into February and onto the Tour of Qatar!) |

Awesome win by Pinot. But unfair to Spilak, though. |

Monthly Summary - January
A nice start to the season for BMC here with 3 race wins, but we managed to gain a great results in Langkawi with Pinot but that stage win still eludes us!
Unsurprisingly, Hushovd wins here as he was dominant in the sprints in the Tour Down Under. But we managed to win an award with Courteille who won the mountains jersey in the Tour Down Under, so January was a very good month for us!
(I did take screenshots of the monthly rankings but they seem to have gone missing, so I will wait until the end of February to give you the current rankings.)

The 2012 edition of the Tour of Qatar is the 11th edition of the race. It is a 6-day stage race which is mainly a race for sprinters, but this year a Team Time Trial has been thrown into the mix, so the sprinter who has a solid time-trialling team around him should win the 2012 Tour of Qatar.

The startlist here is pretty weak to be honest, the only real sprinters here who could challenge for a win are Freire, Bozic, Galimzyanov and Hutarovich. There are no BMC, Garmin or Sky teams here which is surprising but this means that the lesser-sprinters could be in with a shot of an early-season victory here. |

We have got a relatively strong team here to challenge for stage wins but not for the overall as our time trial abilities are rubbish! We expect Hutarovich to possibly snag a stage win or come consistently in the Top 5 here, Rollin will be his leadout man here and the others squad members will be here to help out chasing down breakaways to allow a mass sprint to happen at the end of every stage. |

Stage 1 - Barzan Towers to Doha Golf Club
As is the norm in Qatar, the stage is flat and should be won by a sprinter.
Favourites: Bozic (Astana), Galimzyanov (Katusha), Hutarovich (FDJ)
There was a 5-man break out front today with Sella (Androni), but they were never allowed more than 4 min advantage and were caught at 15km to go. It was Galimzyanov with the win from Bazayev (Astana) and Guardini (Farnese-Vini), it was a bit of a weird sprint really as not all the favourites actually sprinted.

Stage 2 - Lusail to Lusail
The team time trial stage has come upon us and we do not expect to do very well at all as our time trial abilites are well down on the big favourites.
Favourites: Rabobank, Movistar, Katusha
It was the favourites Rabobank with the win today, from Movistar and Katusha. We came dead last just under a minute down, I cannot do Team Time Trials at all and I don't hold much hope for doing them in the future either.

Stage 3 - Dukhan to Al Gharafa Stadium
Another flat stage today and, unless a breakaway stays away, the stage should be won by a sprinter.
Favourites: Bozic (Astana), Hutarovich (FDJ), Galimzyanov (Katusha)
A 6-man break was established today containing Dupont (AG2R) and Tiernan-Locke (Endura). They were allowed a maximum of 4 min lead and unluckily Tiernan-Locke was caught with 5km to go but because of crosswinds and the high pace of the peloton to bring him back the peloton split into groups with 52 riders up front with all FDJ riders there. But Bozic managed to win it on the line from Hutarovich with Galimzyanov 3rd. The Top 57 gained 2min26sec on the rest of the pack today.

1 | Denis Galimzyanov | Katusha Team | 6h26'20 | 2 | Mark Renshaw | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 10 | 3 | Tom Slagter | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | 4 | Jos Van Emden | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 13 | 5 | Borut Božic | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 6 | Tom Leezer | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 15 | 7 | Vladimir Karpets | Movistar Team | + 22 | 8 | Rüdiger Selig | Katusha Team | + 26 | 9 | Óscar Freire | Katusha Team | s.t. | 10 | Mikhail Ignatiev | Katusha Team | s.t. |

Al Thakhira to Madinat Al Shamal
Another flat stage that should be won by a sprint here.
Favourites: Bozic (Astana), Galimzyanov (Katusha), Hutarovich (FDJ)
After the stage had settled down, 14-men were up the road in 3 separate groups, containing the likes of Sutherland (UnitedHealthcare) and Sella (Androni). They were allowed a maximum of 5 mins and were caught relatively early with 50km to go but the winds would play another crucial role today as the peloton split again, most FDJ riders were in the front group. Surprisingly, Oss (Liquigas) won today from Bozic and Hondo (Lampre), it was a weird sprint as many sprinters didn't have the legs to contend the sprint due to the pace being at such a high pace throughout the day.
1 | Daniel Oss | Liquigas - Cannondale | 3h07'11 | 2 | Borut Božic | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 3 | Danilo Hondo | Lampre - ISD | s.t. | 4 | Óscar Freire | Katusha Team | s.t. | 5 | Denis Galimzyanov | Katusha Team | s.t. | 6 | Tom Leezer | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | 7 | Ángel Vicioso | Katusha Team | s.t. | 8 | Mark Renshaw | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | 9 | Boris Shpilevski | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. | 10 | Robert Förster | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team | s.t. |
Stage 5 - Camel Race Track to Al Khor Corniche
Once again we have another flat stage for the sprinters to do battle on.
Favourites: Bozic (Astana), Galimzyanov (Katusha), Hutarovich (FDJ)
On what was a relatively actionless stage today, a 17-man break went away containing no one really worth mentioning. They were never allowed more than 3 mins advantage and were caught with around 50km to go again. Bozic won again for Astana, Hutarovich was 2nd and Galimzyanov 3rd.
1 | Borut Božic | Astana Pro Team | 3h25'48 | 2 | Yauheni Hutarovich | FDJ - BigMat | s.t. | 3 | Denis Galimzyanov | Katusha Team | s.t. | 4 | Danilo Hondo | Lampre - ISD | s.t. | 5 | Robert Förster | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | 6 | Andrea Guardini | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | s.t. | 7 | Tom Leezer | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | 8 | Ángel Vicioso | Katusha Team | s.t. | 9 | Roberto Ferrari | Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela | s.t. | 10 | Boris Shpilevski | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. |
Stage 6 - Sealine Beach Resort to Doha Corniche
The final stage of this years Tour of Qatar and it could possibly throw up a few surprises with the hills over the last half of the stage.
Favourites: Bozic (Astana), Hutarovich (FDJ), Galimzyanov (Katusha)
A 13-man break went away today featuring Sella and Urtasun (Euskaltel). They managed to hold a pretty decent lead coming into the final 30kms with a 3 min advantage. But the stage was not without controversy though, as with around 20km to go a huge crash happened in the peloton we lost Mourey, Delage and Veikkanen but the big loser here was Galimzyanov who was out of contention for the overall and the stage victory. 41 riders made it through unscathed to determine the win.
The brekaway was caught within the last 2km and it was Freire with the win, as he was relieved from leadout duties to become Katusha's main sprinter. Bozic was 2nd with Leezer (Rabobank) 3rd. Hutarovich could have come higher as he was blocked by the breakaway just as he launched his sprint . Bozic easily wins the race here as he was dominant in about every single sprint and his main competitor was wiped out in the crash.
1 | Óscar Freire | Katusha Team | 2h40'54 | 2 | Borut Božic | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 3 | Tom Leezer | Rabobank Cycling Team | s.t. | 4 | Andrea Guardini | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | s.t. | 5 | Danilo Hondo | Lampre - ISD | s.t. | 6 | Yauheni Hutarovich | FDJ - BigMat | s.t. | 7 | Ángel Vicioso | Katusha Team | s.t. | 8 | Boris Shpilevski | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. | 9 | Assan Bazayev | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 10 | Filippo Pozzato | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | s.t. |
1 | Borut Božic | Astana Pro Team | 15h39'42 | 2 | Óscar Freire | Katusha Team | + 37 | 3 | Tom Leezer | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 38 | 4 | Mark Renshaw | Rabobank Cycling Team | + 41 | 5 | Rüdiger Selig | Katusha Team | + 57 | 6 | Gatis Smukulis | Katusha Team | + 1'02 | 7 | Boris Shpilevski | AG2R La Mondiale | + 1'04 | 8 | Maxim Iglinskiy | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 9 | Enrico Gasparotto | Astana Pro Team | + 1'06 | 10 | Danilo Hondo | Lampre - ISD | + 1'08 | 11 | Dominic Klemme | Project 1t4i | + 1'09 | 12 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | + 1'10 | 13 | Andrea Guardini | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | + 1'11 | 14 | Filippo Pozzato | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | + 1'13 | 15 | Cristiano Benenati | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | s.t. |
1 | Borut Božic | Astana Pro Team | 99 | 2 | Denis Galimzyanov | Katusha Team | 69 | 3 | Tom Leezer | Rabobank Cycling Team | 59 | 4 | Danilo Hondo | Lampre - ISD | 59 | 5 | Yauheni Hutarovich | FDJ - BigMat | 59 |
1 | Rüdiger Selig | Katusha Team | 15h40'39 | 2 | Gatis Smukulis | Katusha Team | + 5 | 3 | Andrea Guardini | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | + 14 | 4 | Tomohiro Hayakawa | Team Nippo | + 19 | 5 | Thibaut Pinot | FDJ - BigMat | + 42 |
1 | Rabobank Cycling Team | 46h33'27 | 2 | Katusha Team | + 16 | 3 | Astana Pro Team | + 23 | 4 | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | + 32 | 5 | FDJ - BigMat | + 58 |
(In terms of the GC, it wasn't a great race for us here and we only came higher because of all the crashes that happened but nonetheless, we are pleased with the results Hutarovich has brought us even if we still do not have the stage win and we can now look forward to the Tour of the Mediterraneen where Casar and Demare may gain us a victory!) |

The GC will be decided in the final 2 stages of the race and will we probably see either Voeckler, Casar or Moncoutie doing well in this race and my money is on 1 of these 3 riders to win the Yellow Jersey. |

TOUR OF MEDITERRANEAN SQUAD
We have brought a fairly good squad here to allow us to challenge for the GC and stage wins at the same time. We have Casar as our overall contender with Jeannesson backing him up and we have the combination of Demare and Geslin again to contend the sprints. |

Stage 1 - Maubec-Coustellet to Pertuis
It is listed as a hilly profile but I think that it will be won by a sprinter as the end is relatively flat.
Favourites: Demare (FDJ), Veelers (1t4i), Baugnies (NetApp)
11 men up the road today split into 2 groups, we had sent Gerard into one of them to try and contend for the mountain points. They had a maximum advantage of 7 mins before we put Jeannesson and Vaugrenard on the front of the bunch to reel them in.
The punishing pace set by our 2 riders had allowed a group of 28 to go clear with all FDJ riders still there. They swept up the breakaway easily and with 3km to go Casar and Jerome (Europcar) found themselves off the front with a gap of around 40 seconds. We told Casar to push like crazy as we had our first stage win in sight!
And HE WINS!! We get our first ever stage victory with Casar managing to hold off the the remains of the peloton to win the first stage! Bertogliati (Team Type 1) was 2nd with De Kort (1t4i) 3rd.

Stage 2 - Saint Cannat to Rousset
Another flat stage here and today's stage should be won by a sprinter.
Favourites: Demare (FDJ), Veelers (1t4i), Turgot (Europcar)
A 3-man break went up the road today containing Ovechkin (RusVelo), they had a maximum of 3 minutes and were caught with 30km to go. We setup our leadout perfectly and under 1km to go banner Demare launched his sprint from behind Geslin.
Demare wins! Our second win in a row! Baugnies (NetApp) was 2nd with our leadout man, Geslin, hanging on for 3rd place.
(I thought I'd taken a picture of the podiums but I could not find it )

Stage 3 - Carnoux-en-Provence to La Farlede
Today should be another victory for a sprinter but it is still possible for a breakaway to succeed.
Favourites: Demare (FDJ), Veelers (1t4i), Baugnies (NetApp)
The day was relatively quiet and we had 7 men up the road and we controlled the gap all day. We began to shut the gap down and there was a minor crash at the back of the peloton with 16km to go but it didn't contain anyone major.
We underestimated the breakaway and with 5km to go Racoult (BigMat) still held a 1 minute advantage. Fortunately, we caught him going under the 1km to go banner.
We thought we had this stage won until Veelers finished strongly and took the win here. Demare came 2nd with Poulhies (Saur) in 3rd

La Londe Les Maures to Biot
We come to the penultimate stage of the race and it should give a chance to the GC contenders to put time into each other. The hill at the end will mean that a puncher will win today.
Favourites: Voeckler (Europcar), Casar (FDJ), Moncoutie (Cofidis)
Strangely, no break was allowed to go away today with FDJ and Project 1t4i setting a punishing pace. It wasn't fast enough for Voeckler though as he attacked with 18km to go and took Moncoutie with him. We sent everyone to the front to bring this attack back.
We managed to catch them and in the final few kilometres Casar and Voeckler increased the pace and they sprinted for the line. It was so close but the win was given to Casar, his 2nd win of the race, with Voeckler an impossibly close 2nd and Mombaerts came home behind in 3rd.
