Nice win by Hagen, hopefully his form is building nice to Milan - Sanremo. And great work from Hayman, he guided Hagen perfectly.
Yep, he'll be able to lead out Cav perfectly
And to think, some people actually thought Greipel would beat Cavendish yesterday. He can't even beat his lead out man. |

Well done for delving into the annums of history to find the one time Griepel has beaten Cavendish since he left High Road.
Do you really want me to post every results list where Cavendish has beaten Greipel? |

But if he's beaten Cav before when Cav was at peak fitness, surely that implies he could beat him again.

Yep, at a rate of about 1/20 as I stated earlier in this thread.
The point is dispite the fact that Cav has consistantly proved himself to be the greatest sprinter of all time elect over the last few seasons. But before every flat stage there are always a few jokers saying "This time Greipel will win" or "Rojas is better on hills so therefore he'll win this one" or my personal favourite "Petacchi actually crossed the line at a faster speed. If he had been closer to Cav he would have won"
Can't wait for the "Cav can't climb so doesn't stand a chance at MSR" to start up again.

In all fairness, 2009 saw the peloton take the coastal climbs at training speed. It's unlikely to happen again.

You know where I said the word unlikely. That probably answers your question.

It's actually a bit better than that, but yes, Cavendish is vastly superior. God forgive us sinners for hoping that the only 30 seconds of interest of flat stages aren't ruined by the monotony of having always the same winner.

So, what should people do, bow down to Cavendish before every flat stage? Put our heads as up his ass as yours is? Please tell us.

This. We're not all British/Cav worshippers I hate when everyone just expects Cav to win every stage, and wont even consider anyone else of even possibly winning a stage.

Its a shame. Everybody should be a British worshipper really

Anyone know why Freire didn't contest the sprint? He appeared to stay on Cavendish's wheel again today, unfortunately that left him down in 80th :/ |

Actually, in sprint stages where one wasn't leading out the other, they have a career score of 10-8 in Cavendish's favour. Not exactly 1 out of 20.
But don't let facts get in the way of your continued delusion.

Not at all.
I think he simply deserves a little more respect.
So what your saying is that because he is the best and has dedicated his life to being the best we should all hate him for making cycling "boring"
Get a grip. He is improving cycling as everyone else has to improve to beat him. Without riders like Cavendish the art of sprinting would become boring as every sprint would be contested by several average riders. |

I'd like to know where you pulled that stat from. Cavendish has won 10 stages alone at the tour in the last 2 years against Griepel. So I'm pretty certain he's won more then 10 against him in his whole career.
Then again Griepel does avoid racing Cavendish at every opportunity so he can brag about winning 15 continental stages a season.
I've no doubt Griepel has beaten Cavendish in the tour of Turkey and Austria etc. In other words the races where cavendish is training for the real races. |

Whats this, the World Champion needs more respect!
Invalid point imo, as almost all cyclists have dedicated their entire life to the sport as well....
He's improving the sport for those of his nation, and his fans in other countries. But for anyone else, not really
And about the final point, does that mean that the U23 World Championship could never be as exciting as the Mens WC, theoretically? Because if so I completely disagree, quality of rider does not equal quality of entertainment.

The art of sprinting of Cavendish and his 3,4 lead-out man is the most boring part of recent cycling for me. As you said, he is the best of his generation, but me thinks the new super power-horses like Hagen or Sagan will begin to steal the San-Remos and green jerseys in the near future, while not the whole team will be dedicated to babysit them like they do with Cav. I doubt Cav would have won the first stage without Hagen puling him to the last 300 metres.
