Garmin - 4th season Giro d`Italia
roturn
Thanks. As mentioned from now on it will be on extreme.

@Tuco: Good to have you around. Wink Indeed it was a great start so far, will become harder from March-September.
@Valverde: In PCM10 I wasn`t even able to reach the top10, so podium might be too far away. Especially as Hesjedal and Sanchez aren`t better than last year and Roche is also just +1 in hill but -5 or so in mountain. So not really better than last year. Top 10 would already be great there.

Tour Down Under - Stage 4
Norwood - Goolwa
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-4-1.jpg
And again a pretty flat stage. So far Haussler, Cavendish and Boasson Hagen showed a good form, but also Greipel and Pozzato did constantly well, but have less support. So it might be a exciting finish once again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-4-2.jpg
12 riders in the break of the day. All of them are already a few minutes back.
Bazayev (Astana), Duarte (Geox), Peraud (AG2R), Roberts (Saxo Bank) or M.Iglinsky (Astana) to name some of the better riders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-4-3.jpg
But 3 riders from Garmin are doing the pace in the peloton as they want another sprint here. It`s Rowe, Bookwalter and Meyer again, who are an important part in this race. Especially Rowe proves that it was a good decision to keep him in the team.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-4-4.jpg
Just 12km to go and the breakaway is still a bit ahead. And now Tony Martin is attacking. Not a big danger in the overall, but so Cavendish`s Liquigas squad has less pressure in the sprint preparations.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-4-5.jpg
But with 5km to go Garmin and Sky did a good job and all are back in the peloton. Time for Rowe to fall back again as on every stage. Totally deserved to relax on the final kilometers

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-4-6.jpg
Again Garmin and Sky are forming their 3-men-trains.
Roelandts and Cooke hang on the Sky train, while the former team mates Greipel, Renshaw and Cavendish are behind Haussler.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-4-7.jpg
Photo finish between Hagen and Haussler. The Sky train worked a bit better in the end and so Haussler had to close a small gap to Sutton and Hagen, but in the end he wins the stage with the highest end speed. Great job by him once again.
So we will have to lead the race over the Willunga Hill tomorrow as the last 2 years, hopefully with a better finish this time.

Great win! Haussler most probably secured the overall win there.

Thanks, but as last year and the year before I won`t say it`s secure until I have passed Willunga Hill and even then there is still a 6th stage.

Tour Down Under - Stage 5
Point - Willunga
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-5-1.jpg
Two times the Willunga Hill must be passed. It`s a perfect sprint for the puncheurs to play a trick on the sprinters. Many times it was seen here, that sprinters struggled and lost their leader jersey. Hopefully today it will be different and Haussler keeps the jersey.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-5-2.jpg
Lots of attacks on the first kilometer. Many teams weren`t happy and so it`s just Renshaw in the end, who leads the race. 1min back Saxobank`s Mørkøv tries to join him.
Another minute back two puncheurs are also in front of the peloton. Peraud (AG2R) and Gutierrez (Movistar) are both around 4 min behind Haussler in the overall.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-5-3.jpg
Sky, Liquigas and Garmin lead the peloton over the first Willunga pass. Boasson Hagen and Haussler won`t have that many problems here, but Cavendish isn`t known as great climber and their 2nd new HTC signing Tony Martin lost already lots of time on previous stages.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-5-4.jpg
Renshaw totally suffered on the climb and so it`s Gutierrez and Morkov now leading the race with still 4 min ahead. Also Peraud is ahead of the peloton.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-5-5.jpg
Some riders attacked in between the two climbs but none of them was very dangerous in the overall. Much different with 1km to go on the climb. Sky`s Boasson Hagen attacked. Probably the biggest danger for Haussler. Goss and Felline immediately increase the pace a lot and now many riders struggle, while Boasson Hagen can`t really create a gap.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-5-6.jpg
Huge splits now. Cavendish and Greipel are far back and unfortunately also Jack Bobridge wasn`t able to stay in the first group.
But therefore Haussler has still nice support by Goss and Felline.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-5-7.jpg
Just 14 riders fight for the stage win here after catching the escapees.
Garmin with 3 riders here definitely the strongest, so of course 2 of them are still doing the pace to avoid attacks.
The other riders are Boasson Hagen (Sky), Pozzato (Lampre), Martin, Nuyens (Liquigas), Ventoso (RadioShack), Geslin (FDJ), Gutierrez (Movistar), Morkov (Saxobank), Cherel (Ag2r), Martinez (Euskaltel) and Chavanel (Quickstep).
So in general the best puncheurs and the well climbing sprinters.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-5-8.jpg
And it`s the best climber under the sprinters. Boasson Hagen wins the 5th stage ahead of Ventoso and Haussler. Very important bonus seconds now as the 3rd would be enough to take the overall win and so far he was always on the stage podium.
Goss and Felline had to pay tribute in the end and lost 29s each, but they did a brilliant job today.
The next group with 40 riders including Bobridge and Meyer finished 1min later, so Bobridge keeps his top10 result. Well done.

Nice and important podium by Haussler. The last stage will be exciting with Boasson Hagen and Haussler. Good luck for the overall win Wink

If Hagen won't make a surprise, he already won it Wink

Tour Down Under - Stage 6
Adelaide - Adelaide
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-1.jpg
A short and pretty flat criterium in Adelaide ends the Tour Down Under. Heinrich Haussler is the clear favourite for the overall win as a podium spot would already guarantee it if the break takes the intermediates.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-2.jpg
No danger from the break of the day. It`s even pretty good for Garmin and Haussler when they share the bonus seconds.
Howard (HTC), Turgot (Europcar), Urtasun (Euskaltel), Ratto (Geox), Guarnieri (Liquigas), Loosli (Lampre), Fernández (Astana) and Rollin (FDJ).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-3.jpg
Sky is doing a lot today as their last chance to win the overall is a lucky win here with Haussler not being in the top3. It looks secure that the break will be caught again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-4.jpg
Then the unbelievable happened. A crash with a Sky and two Garmin riders and jsut 14km to go. And it is Heinrich Haussler in the leader jersey as also Felline again and Sky`s Bennati. Is this some kind of unfair tactic? We should definitely check the replays for the reason of this crash.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-5.jpg
As it happened in the first third of the peloton and after a corner many others crashed, too. With Stybar and Nuyens there are other riders from the top15 involved. All other top riders and most sprinters were lucky and are riding for the stage win, while Sky is forming the sprint train for Boasson Hagen.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-6.jpg
Except of Bobridge all Garmin riders are falling back immediately and do a crazy pace now. Especially Goss and Meyer are really a great help today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-7.jpg
And what an effort. With 7km to go Haussler is back in the peloton but if Hagen wins the stage, he can overtake the overall, so time for Haussler to fight his way into the first rows again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-8.jpg
Not even necessary. Due to the crash I lost the overview and also the breakaway profit from it. Guarnieri wins the stage ahead of Roberts and Ongarato, who attacked together with Van Winden later on the stage.
So Haussler takes the overall after a shocking moment.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-9.jpg
And even better. The leader jersey is seen sprinting for the peloton win and even finished 3rd behind the RadioShack duo Ventoso and Cardoso and was even the fastest by far. Sky`s Hagen didn`t even tried to go on his limit after the win was not longer possible.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/TdU-6-10.jpg
Haussler with a very deserved win in quite a strong startlist. Also Bobridge as 9th, Goss 11th, Felline 12th and Meyer`s 15th are showing our strength. Goss and Felline could have made it a totally domination here without the crash on stage 1.

Thanks. Indeed something I was very afraid of, but luckily with a happy end.

The Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria is a road bicycle race held annually in Province of Reggio Calabria, Italy. It was first held in 1920 but the number of stages in the last 10 years changed a lot between 1 and 4 stages.
This year we will have 3 pretty hilly stages, while the last one might also suit the sprinters.
Record winner with 3 wins is the Italian Michele Dancelli, who won the race for 3 different teams from 1966-68.

It was the season opener for Martin and Boom last year and both did pretty well. But the Omega duo Bakelants and Vanendert was just too strong.
While Martin is back in 2013, Omega isn`t even participating to defend their title.

Martin the pure leader here although the course is a bit easier than last year I think and his form of just 58 is also pretty low. But he will have some good helpers here and with 6 Americans our sponsor is very happy with the team here.
Barton, Butler, Murphy and Souchon are making their Garmin debut or in last case even the pro debut.

Hard to predict a early season race. Martin definitely the best climber here but lots of well climbing Italians might want to take their home win. Also totally unknown, which riders already have a good form so early in the season, while most riders are still building up their form for Paris Nice, Tirreno Adriatico or Milano San Remo.

I (and many others) thought Down Under was in your pocket after stage 5, but I didn't see that kind of spectacular stage 6 coming.

Also, I have to correct you. On the screen where half of the pack is on the ground, you say that "Boasson Hagen is forming the sprint train for Hagen". Didn't know that that was possible... Wink

Good luck in Calabria, and, as Omega Pharma isn't there, I'll put my bets on Dan Martin.

Wow, very exciting stage final in Down Under but with the better end for Garmin. Great start of the season and good luck in Calabria.

@MitchNL: Thanks and is corrected now. Wink
@Batista15: Thanks. Seems like PCM11 is more unpredictable and those crashes happen more often than in PCM10. Sometimes frustrating but in general probably more realistic.

Giro Di Reggio Calabria - Stage 1
Melito - Catanzaro
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-1-1.jpg
First stage already starts with a hard climb in the end. Probably not hard enough after a flat stage to create that big gaps, but maybe the biggest GC contenders will have to show themselves already.
As Martin`s 58 fitness is a big question mark, although most other riders won`t have much more, we will try to get someone in the break.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-1-2.jpg
First goal reached. John Murphy, new signing from BMC and in first line more a possible lead-out man had the best start position and so he jumped into the break of the day.
Modolo (Colnago), Kolesnikov (Amore & Vita), Detko (Bank BGZ), Nose (Adria Mobil), Selvaggi (Vacansoleil), Solomennikov (Itera), Dlouhý (PSK) and Girardi (De Rosa) complete the group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-1-3.jpg
The two biggest Italian teams Liquigas and Lampre are doing the pace for their leaders Capecchi, Bole and Bertagnolli. Also Gourov is doing a little bit for Masciarelli although these two are the only Astana riders here.
And welcome back to the black Garmin shirts. They are just better to identify than the white ones.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-1-4.jpg
5km and still 2min advance, so it`s looking pretty good now for the break. Unfortunately Murphy isn`t the best climber and so he can`t follow the first attacks of Solomennikov and Girardi.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-1-5.jpg
Back in the peloton Grega Bole attacks first. He feels obviously pretty strong as he fast creates a gap .

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-1-6.jpg
Time for Martin to counter him. Last time looking back, who follows and then increasing a lot, that causes the peloton to split.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-1-7.jpg
Meanwhile Selvaggi wins the first stage ahead of Modolo. The next 3 riders are 7s back, Murphy finishes 7th with 55s as he wasn`t able to keep the pace on the last 3km.
But nice start for him in our team.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-1-8.jpg
A small group with Martin, Marzoli and Masciarelli finish with 1'31 today and lost 27s to Grega Bole on the climb. but gained lots of time to other contenders, that reached the final in massive splits.
But now it will be hard to gain that much time on the breakaway riders and also on Bole. Stage 2 definitely will become exciting now.
