Profile

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3profile.jpg

Last stage doesn’t look as very difficult on the paper, but Lampre riders must be very careful and watch the biggest opponenst of our leaders. There is one tough hill on the route, but it’s summit is still almost fifty kilometres from the line, so it would be hard to hold some possible gap to the finish. We will take this stage defensively and Bole will wait for the sprint finish.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3a.jpg

This is the nervous day for us, i told my riders to be very attentive. That is why all Lampre is positioned at the front, as some riders attack right from the start.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3b.jpg

Large breakway group of thirteen (Rebellin, Lagutin, De Weert...none is danger for GC, gap is 1“30“) reaching the first sprint point.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3c.jpg

Lampre controlling the pack as the gap is four minutes. But more important fact is, that we are at the foot of today’s biggest climb. Just watch the opposition boys and victory is ours!

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3d.jpg

All favourites are still together in the pack of 66 riders at the top, the break is 3“45“ ahead. Bole and Spilak doing good. It is looking good for us.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3e.jpg

15kms to go and the win seems to be sure for one of the breakaway riders, despite our strong efforts. But we can’t bother less with that, all we need to do is finish the race.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3f.jpg

Red kite for the breakaway and R.Jorgensen from Charistina- watches goes fast in the middle, same as T. Dall‘ Antonia on the right.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3g.jpg

And it is the win for Liquigas rider Dall ‘Antonia! Rebellin finishes super fast for second, the dane Jorgensen is third.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/calabria3h.jpg

Sagan wins sprint of the pack 1“40“ later. You see that man in the yellow finishing behind him? That is Grega Bole, winner of 2011 Giro della Calabria!!! Spilak finishes safe in the bunch and makes us even happier with 2nd place overall.

Thoughts and results

This was a dream race for us as we won all the competitions, except the best team, where we finished third. Grega Bole was fantastic with two stage-wins, 1st in GC,KOM and points. Spilak got the white jersey and was second overall. I must also praise our helpers, as they were doing the great job for their leaders whole race.

Note: Forgot to export results, so i will make it this way only this time, sorry for that.but here is the picture of Grega on the podium:

The profile of the first italian classic of the season is not very demanding and it should be for the sprinters. But there are some hills on the way, especially in the first half of the race. Grega Bole will try to continue his successfull early season in this race, as profile should be ideal for him. He has some nice helpers here with Hondo, Marzano and the others. Szeghalmi is here to try to jump in some breakaway, if possible.

Riders are going down from the first pair of hills, as all the first breakaway tries have failed so far. Lampre sitting at the front.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/etruschib.jpg

Finally a huge break has been established with 18 riders as Gasparotto,Furlan and Di Luca among others. But Liquigas seems not happy with this and has started to work in the peloton.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/etruschic.jpg

The former break was caught at the half of the stage and now lots of smaller groups behind solo leader J. Kocjan, who is almost five minutes ahead of the peloton. They should react quickly.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/etruschid.jpg

And two italian teams with high favourites reacts. Liquigas with a help from Lampre reduces the gap to three minutes with 38kms left.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/etruschie.jpg

Only six riders (Stybar, Schumacher, Lorenzetto,Kocjan,Grabovskyi and Vandenbergh) remaining at the front. They lead by a minute with 15kms to go.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/etruschif.jpg

As the peloton catches the break three riders (Vaitkus,Vantomme,Commeyne) attack and have a nice gap of 30 seconds with 3.5 kms remaining. Hondo is leading out Bole well in the pack.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/etruschig.jpg

Vaitkus was the strongest from the leading group and is a deserved winner after that surprising late attack. Vantomme is second and Commeyne third. Bole is a bit blocked unfortunately.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/etruschih.jpg

Grega sprints fast in the end and finishes on 7th place.Nothing great but still a decent result.

Thoughts and results

Okay day for Lampre, with Grega Bole on 7th place. Our team was working all day, only Liquigas was helpful. Because of that our riders didn’t have the needed power left to catch the late break. Our next race is Tour de Méditerraneén, first race for „Ale Jet“.

Excellent story! So much so that I paused for 30 minutes from my PCM 10 Lampre game in the middle of the Tour de France specially to read it and I only came here originally to look for info on training schedules Pfft

I've not managed to get into PCM 11 yet, found it rather difficult, but this story has inspired me to maybe have another go...either with Lampre again or a custom team of mostly youngsters.

P.S. Grega Bole is a big favourite of mine from two career games with Lampre Smile

First stage race of the year held on the French soil is here. The race starts with four rather flat stages with some minor hills on the route and tiny uphill finish in stage 4. Stage 5 should be the deceisive one, finishing on the famous Mt. Faron. This race definetely suits punchers with nice acceleration and we have some of them in the startlist.

Race Favourites:

The startlist is not super-strong on the paper, except one name: the best french rider of the decade, Thomas Voeckler. He is of course the biggest favourite for GC, but he has some nice competition here, mainly in person of J. Vanendert and strong Rabobank team.

+++ Voeckler, Vanendert, Barredo
++ Peraud, Roy, Moncoutie
+ Mollema, Spilak, De Waele, Nocentini,Coppel

The sprinting field is rather weak, with Petacchi, Bos and Bonnet probably the biggest names.

Team Lampre-ISD riders

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/mediteam.jpg

Simon Spilak is our only leader in France, top 5 in GC is his goal for this race, he is in decent shape and has four good helpers ready to work for him. Ale-Jet is opening his preparations for important events in March here and he should be able to get some nice results in the sprint. Vitaliy Buts is here in a free-rider role and is ready to be the part of the few breakaway tries .

First reports coming tommorow or on Wednesday...

Profile

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi1profile.jpg

First stage of the race is pretty short, only 114kms today for the riders. There are some hills on the route, but it shouldn’t be major problem for most of the riders. Alessandro Petacchi is not in the good shape, but he is still a favourite together with Bonnet. Or is Voeckler going to try his famous late attack? V.Buts will be looking for a chance to jump into break and grab some mountain points, while Spilak will take it easy.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi1a.jpg

Buts failed to jump in the successful break and leading five is now sprinting for the KOM points. It is Moss, Siskevicius, Flens, Romero and Broco. Moss wins at the top, followed by Siskevicius and Romero. They lead by four minutes now.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi1b.jpg

The rain is pouring down on riders heads as Lampre boys Balloni and Krivtsov leads peloton acroos the top of the second categorized climb today. Five riders at the front lead by five minutes with 70 kms to go. Moss won the KOM sprint again,so he will wear the jersey tommorow.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi1c.jpg

Even the sheeps are watching the courage of A.Dietziker from NetApp, who bridged the gap to the break with 20kms to go and still two minutes advantage for them. Saur and Lampre are working hard in the peleton.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi1d.jpg

But unfotunately they were not able to catch the break and Rick Flens, who attacked earlier, is approaching the final kilometre with nice advantage.Pack is still almost two minutes down.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi1e.jpg

Now look what happened. Dietziker blasts to the line along very slow Flens and gets the win, great mid-stage attack and still the power to finish.Poor Flens finishes third as even Moss was faster in the end. De Waele wins the sprint of the pack 1“30“ later, Petacchi is classified as 10th in the end, fourth from the peleton. Not bad for the first appearance.

Thoughts and results

Weird stage, as breakaway was able to hold the advantage against the peleton. Sadly for us Saur-Sojasun riders stoped working with 20 kms to go and our riders were not strong enough to bring them back. The king of the stage was A.Dietziker with the classy move and strong finish. Spilak feels okay for the next stages and Petacchi is happy with his top 10 result. This will be tough race now against riders from today’s break.

Thanks guys for the support, here is the next one Smile

Profile

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2profile.jpg

This stage is very similar to the first one, maybe not so hilly, the lenght is exactly the same: 114 kms. All three categorized climbs today are positioned in the first half of the route, so we should see a mass sprint finish with Ale-Jet. Buts will again try to get into break.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2a.jpg

V.Buts tries to catch the break as he goes through the KOM competition sign. Wallonie rider J.Giaux won the sprint.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2b.jpg

Alfredo Balloni attacks with several other riders from the pack, as Buts has been chased down by the pack. Finally large leading group of eleven riders established around Balloni. Kadri, Valentin and Gaudin being the most noteable ones.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2c.jpg

Balloni keeps the pressure high whole climb and is awarded by 10 points to the KOM competition. Gaudin and Valentin finish 2nd and 3rd respectively. The break has 6“20“ lead at this second mountain point.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2d.jpg

Ou rider also won the last mountain sprint with same tactics and he will wear the polka-dots jersey tommorow. The gap now melts quickly as the breakaway riders have 30 kms to go. They will be caught probably.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2e.jpg

The remnants of the break are caught with 15kms to the line and Lampre establishes nice sprint train with Ale-Jet in the end, Topsport train at the front with Bos sitting on the wheel of their sprinter Van Staeyen.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2f.jpg

Veilleux and Sabido attacking in the last 6kms. Great job from our sprint-train Kvachuk-Buts-Spilak-Petacchi

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2g.jpg

With 2kms to go Petacchi switches from the wheel of Spilak to Van Staeyen’s, Bos is right next to him.

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc483/AvinW/medi2h.jpg

And what a pity! Ale-Jet is denieded at the line by super-fast Vachon from Bretagne, while Van Staeyen finishes third. But still a nice podium result for Alessandro.

Thoughts and results

We are fairly happy with today’s stage as Alfredo Balloni gained the KOM jersey and Alessandro finished second. He is little bit upset, as he was very close to win,but i told him to stay calm and focused. He agrees with that, as he is true professional. He will surely have at least one more chance tommorow. Simon Spilak feels strong and can’t wait for Mt.Faron.

Yeah, Alessandro was leading the whole last kilometre and then Vachon outsprinted him in last 100 metres easily.
I am still fighting a bit with timing the sprint right in new edition Smile
I'll be back
