Tour of Wellington Discussion

Van Loocke climbing 3 places higher this stage into 9th. If he can climb another 3 I'll be absolutely ecstatic. Also nice from Stallaert getting into the break, even if nothing really came from it.

That was a disappointing day for me.
- no rider in the breakaway
- 21st overall Iglinski crashes and loses 5min, probably also Westphal in this crash, hope no injury
- Cucinotta forgetting to sprint in a perfect flat sprint
- For some reason Costa learns to sprint and even gets a podium and overtakes Hermans in the overall due to the bonus seconds

Only Hermans with another 10th in a sprint finish convinced me. I really hope that he can attack on the next stage, should be suiting him a lot with his high plain stat.

Congrats to Trilux for their first stage win and also to Flügel, who already won the KoM jersey. Wink

felix_29
That was quite surprising for me, even a Top 5 would have been great. I hope Wegmann keeps the points jersey and the podium while one of my other riders should move into the Top 10 of the GC. If five riders all stayed in the Top 20, that would be a huge success, too.

cio93
First sprint train from Puma, and that in the race with the fewest riders capable of that so far Grin
I'm still quite pleased with the result, as I just imagine exchanging Meersman, Delage, Gasparotto with Gasparotto, Kvist, Bennati... Wink Looking forward to Mumbai!

Great work from Wegmann again, he seemed unstoppable. Don't be too surprised if he takes the overall with another two stage wins!

I didn't think I'd be getting a top 10 on this stge! Very happy with that result!

Congrats to Flugel for holding on too.

Too bad Wegmann and Froome couldn´t catch the breakaway, congrats to Oz. Only a crash can stop Flügel now because Wegmann didn´t get any time bonus in the finishFrown
But i should have one rider on the podium, four others in the Top 20 and two leader jerseys, so all in all it should be a success (only crashes could change that).

SportingNonsense
Not a great stage. The breakaway at least meant Wegmann gained nothing, but annoyingly short of taking the GC lead - a very lucky Flugel. And from 5 riders in Top 30 GC to 1, the rest of the team apparantely deciding to give up.

I think Meiji did well. We had two Top 5's I believe, and Murakami, and Bauer, both finished inside the Top 10 of the GC. I didn't think Murakami would ever be in the Top 10, but Bauer obviously likes riding in his home country.

Congrats to Rothaus, I'm sure that will make Roturn happy.

And nice reporting Untal!

Avin Wargunnson
Congrats to OZ and Rothaus, great attacking mood of their riders secured them the victories, hope for more of that!Smile
I'll be back

Pellizotti2
Congrats to roturn and tsmoha! Two nice attacks there.

Thank you! Wow, feels very good to get a first and unexpected win Smile We hoped for a breakaway in Wellington and our riders did a grweat job. Fantastic stage for Lewis! And another nice 3rd for Bennett in final stage. Congrats to Rothaus and Westphal for a strong attack an great win and also to Flügel! And I like Jack Bauer's results as well: a decent overall for Meji.

Now it's time to celebrate Smile

Congrats to Tsmoha and Roturn on their wins!

Mandri into 9th on GC thanks to that bunch 'sprint' so I'm somewhat pleased.

Thanks and also congrats to Oz and also Meiji for catching Hermans on the last meters. Wink

I am really happy to get my first ever win in the first ever race. The new CT teams seem to continue having good luck.
Westphal`s attack was really well placed. That was actually why I wanted him in the transfer season. Good flat and fight stat.

Therefore I am again a bit disappointed that Hermans never tried to attack. Why having these good skills, if you always stay in the pack on suitable stages. Next time for sure. 8th for the start isn`t too bad and just secounds to the top5.

Thanks Untal

It's always nice to see breakaways taking a few wins and really you have to credit VolksWagen with allowing them to sweep the bonifications away and thus making their job a bit easier.

Stage 5 was difficult to work out no-one took that responsibility to chase and I am a bit disappointed no-one in Red Bull took a gamble on getting it all back for our sprinter Giaux. Though clearly the sprints saw some strange activity on the third stage anyway, there was a small risk of losing GC places to the likes of Costa.

The crash to Cherel spoiled the chances of a third high GC position, but I was probably a bit fortunate to get both 4th and 5th on the classification I was never likely to grab the win here. Joseph Cooper can be partially credited with helping us to the team classification victory.

I felt it was a strong race for Trilux, Wegmann showing with that mix of climbing and sprinting he is going to be a heavy points scorer. Their team did a fair job of control at times and tried to actually win the race. One of the big promotion challanging teams VolksWagen, who for me had a bit of a quiet one in Tachira have bounced back with hilly man Flugal and Froome once again does well here for Rapha.

I´m really satisfied with Wegmann but Barta dropping to 15th is not what i wanted to see on the last stage.
I should get enough points here, about 190 (+/- my calculation mistakes), that shows my team was strong. Too bad Wegmann hasn´t got more race daysFrown

Congrats to all winners and good luck for the next races.

That was close, 2nd place. Hope the results will only get better Smile

Another teams classification win for Jayco - Red Bull and this time, they move into the lead of the standings aswell. The absent Aker and Hollister slip down, while Flugel's victory lifts VW to 4th, despite not much team support. Rapha move back up also, to 5th, while Trilux climb 16 to 11th. And with Rothaus - Aegon going 26th, all of the current active CT teams are now off the mark.

Flügel goes 3rd with his GC victory, while Froome is back up to 4th - the highest placed rider to not yet have won anything this season, consistency is key! Wegmann enters in at 8th, while Gasparotto slips to 10th, having dissapointed compared to his showing at the TDU. Mori and Kirchen make it 5 JRB riders in the Top 20 - showing why they top the standings. Strength in depth was always going to be key this season, but will they be able to keep it up?

Interesting to see two teams that are almost polar opposite in their make up in Aker Solutions and Jayco Red Bull top the standings.

I guess we are both doing what we do best, Aker using Alarcon to kick everybodies butt and Jayco scraping up as many points as they can around the rim.

Things will likely change after San Luis/Med I suspect with the likes of Vespa, VolksWagen and Pirelli coming into view. But early form isn't everything obviously a huge difference in race days and riders used at this stage. Still nice to see me on top though.

Saab Scania at the bottom, name might have changed but teams fortunes haven't yet Sad
