Today is the last stage in Australia after some nice days for our team. We didn´t get our stage win so far but we´re still happy with two podium and who knows, today is another chance for Goss.
The favourites:
+++ Farrar, Goss, Sutton
++ Rojas, Steegmans, Haedo
+ Davis, Henderson, Greipel
The HTC train worked brilliantly today just like yesterday. Bak did a fantastic job at the front before he finished his day. Greipel, Davis and of course Tyler Farrar were behind us. I´m sure he´s still angry about his loss yesterday against Sutton and us.
The last corner for Howard and Goss before the sprint begins. Howard isn´t the fastest man in a sprint but he´s still doing a good job in Australia.
After Greipel did a nice leadout for Farrar, the American sprinter was in the best position again. Goss was the leading man but his acceleration was just terrible today. He really slowed down in the end while Allan Davis took the lead of him.
But there is no chance against a Tyler Farrar in this shape! 4th stage win for Farrar. He´s also the overall winner of this tour. Davis and Sutton also finished on the podium today while Goss came in as 8th.

Okay, no chance against Farrar... seems like the AI learned to use Pre-season-camps Too bad you lost 5th in GC, but Young rider-jersey is nice as well!

January Summary
Well, the first month of racing is over now and we had a nice start of this season. Nothing special, as we´ve got more ambitions in the first Pro Tour Race. A 6th overall placement by Goss with two podiums in the bunch sprint is still a good way to start the season. The most impressive thing was the Australian Championship for Matthew Goss in the beginning. All in all we saw a great team performance in the sprints with Bak, Roulston, Howard and of course Matt Goss. We won´t be surprised if we see this squad again in some other races this season!
Here you can see our race calendar for February. We´re going to start in Spain with the Vuelta a Mallorca. We´re not sure who´s gonna lead the team there so far. Also Mark Cavendish will open up his season with the Tour of Qatar. Hopefully he can take some stages there. His leadout man Renshaw is going to sprint in the Tour of Oman in the middle of February. Michael Albasini and Bernie Eisel will be our captains in the end of this month at some one day classics. So let´s hope for some nice weeks there |

Thanks a lot man, I´m not sure if Goss will ride this Tour. Maybe as leadout man for Cav but I don´t think so up to here |

VUELTA A MALLORCA
The second stage race for HTC in 2011 will be in Spain. The route in Mallorca isn´t that hard with some nice chances for the sprinter and a few hilly stages. Our team squad isn´t the strongest but I think they´re still able to get some great results there as the competition isn´t really amazing. Our sprint captain is Alex Rasmussen with Bernie Eisel on his side. Leader and overall hope is for sure Tejay Van Garderen. We´re not expecting too much because his shape isn´t that good at the moment but he´s taking this Tour for preparing himself for the next weeks.
HTC-HIGHROAD
The favourites:
+++ Samuel Sanchez, Arroyo, Nieve
++ Van Garderen, Gutierrez, Txurruka
+ Lastras, Bruseghin, Castroviejo |

First stage should be posted later after my dinner. Tomorrow will be probably a day without any updates as I have to play tennis for my club. We´ve got a important match there so wish me luck for that
But as I said stage one and the Qatar presentation should be posted today. |

First stage in Spain is a short one with only 110 kilometres. The stage finish isn´t that easy with a short uphill but it should be something for the sprinters though.
The favourites:
+++ Rasmussen, Fernandez, Boeckmans
++ Impey, Eisel, Galdos
+ Traksel, Pinto, Vinther
A smaller group of 5 riders were able to control the stage until the last 6 kilometres! The pack really underestimated them today.
As you can see, especially our HTC team and Euskatel made the pace in the peloton. As I said, with 6 kilometres to go, the breakaway finally was brought back and so we could build our famous train.
Our sprint preperation wasn´t perfect today but still good enough to bring Rasmussen and his leadout man Eisel in a nice position for the last metres.
The sprint was started by NetApp with Daryl Impey who made a strong impression. Bernie Eisel once again did a fantastic job for HTC, leading out his sprint captain Rasmussen perfectly. Fernandez, Galdos and Traksel were right behind us when Rasmussen left Eisel´s slipstream.
That´s it! What a great way to start this Vuelta a Mallorca. After a great teamwork, we finally got the first stage win in a stage race this year. Of course Rasmussen is by far the best sprinter in the pack but it´s still a great win for us. Traksel finished second in front of Galdos.

TOUR OF QATAR
As always the Tour of Qatar is something for the sprinters. We decided to start Cavendish´s season with exactly this small stage race. The first part is a small prologue over 2 kilometres. Of course Mark Cavendish might be able to win this race but our biggest goal is to improve his shape for March. Surely, we´re not too sad if he´s going to win a stage or two. All in all we´ve sent a nice team in the desert with John Degenkolb, Brammeier and Danny Pate as leadout squad for Cavendish. One of our team captains is also there. Peter Velits opened up his season to improve his level for the following Pro Tour Races in March and April.
HTC-HIGHROAD
The favourites:
+++ Sagan, Cavendish, Ventoso
++ Kittel, Davis, Galimzyanov
+ Napolitano, Van Hummel, Förster
So let´s hope for a nice Tour there with some great bunch sprints. We really should pay attention to Marcel Kittel who already got some nice results in the first races. By the way, we are taking a closer look at him this season because his contract with Skil-Shimano is expiring and I think the young German would be a great guy for HTC. |
