Today will be a very hard day for Freire, maybe he is able to keep up because yesterday he showed a great form. But on this stage there will be more climbing so will see what happens. Riders as Cunego and Di Luca should do the trick here.
Today the weather was better than some other days, I nice sun and the riders are ready for a real hard stage.
The break of today contains only to riders, Noval (SAX) and Reda (QST). Despite their climbing capabilities they are both more than 15 minutes behind in the GC, so no threat.
The first hard climb, but if Greipel leads the peloton it will do no harm to Freire.
But 1k later is starts to get serious, it is Garzelli (ASA) who attacks but later on it was only for the KoM points. But riders as Moreno (KAT), Zaugg (LEO) and Agnoli (LIQ) also want to win the stage and keep a steady pace.
Because the pack starting chasing Garzelli there were a lot of riders who had to let go of the peloton, also Freire so he can see goodbye to his GC aspirations. Only 38 riders in the peloton now and 50k to go.
The three already lost Reda and Noval so with 15k to go they are the leaders and have 1’28” advantage to the pack which is led by Scarponi (LAM).
Cunego (LAM) attacks after just 100 meter of uphill section, it were Di Luca (KAT) and Garate who reacted quickly. Riders as Masciarelli (AST) and Brajkovic (TSH) were a bit too late and weren’t able to close the gap to these three.
Here you see the riders all in one shot, Garate is leading while Di Luca plays poker today. He stays in the wheel of Cunego and Garate, but Juanma wants to great a gap because he is already 1’08” behind in the GC on Damiano. Masciarelli and Brajkovic came close but never reach the three.
One of these riders is going to win the stage… Only 2k to the finish…
Garate choose the wheel of Di Luca because Cunego stayed last of the group. Danilo started the sprint but Cunego was way to strong and Garate wasn’t able to overtake Di Luca, so a third place today.
Very good and we finished on the podium every stage up till now. Garate is now third in the GC at 1’08” behind Cunego, we hope he is able to hold on because it will be our first podium at a Pro Tour race.

Stage 6 Montecosaro - Macerata
Again a hard stage but not as hard as yesterday, we don’t really have someone who could win here. Barredo maybe but he is not in a good shape yet, so it will be Martens who tries to join the breakaway. Yesterday he was very good and became 33rd although it was more than 5 minutes behind, but he could keep up with the better riders for a long time.
So a few riders tried to get away and Martens closes the gap easily, but when there were a few new attacks the pack started to chase the breakaway down.
So Martens decided to attack again, this time it was more successful, he got away with Greipel (OLO), Roulston (HTC) and Riblon (AG2R).
With 60k to go Greipel already lost contact, but the three decided not to wait because it was still early in the stage. Just three laps to go…
With 40k it was Roulston who was having a hard time, but the gap didn’t get wide so he came back in the downhill.
The pack wasn’t really chasing so with 1 lap of 20k to go the three still had a lead of 2’11” and Martens had enough energy left.
With 17k to go it was Riblon who attacked, but Martens waited and closed the gap with the help of Roulston. It didn’t cost a lot of energy because Hayden did most of the work, with 14k to go they already closed the gap.
At the next uphill section Martens attacked and it he showed a lot of power. It was a good moment because Riblon was exhausted of attacking and Roulston of closing the gap. He soon had 30” to those two.
Just 7k to go and you can see all the riders in one shot, Martens was 38” in front of his breakaway companions and 1’03” to the peloton. But in the peloton they started attacking…
Gilbert (OLO) and Cunego (LAM) attacked, while Gilbert was still a thread for the podium it was Garate who had to pay attention. But the Spaniard wasn’t able to reach the two and got reeled in by the peloton.
Only one kilometer to go and Gilbert and Cunego are coming close! Will Paul be able to stay in front…
Yes he could! Just 12 seconds in front of Gilbert and Cunego who lost a bit of speed at the end, so we were very delighted that also a “helper” was able to get a success. We also succeeded on riding podium on every stage, tomorrow will be for the sprinters so then we will aim at Freire again.
This was not so funny, Gilbert and Cunego took 26 seconds and so Gilbert overtook Garate in the GC standings with 12 seconds. That was bit of a setback for today, although Martens won the mountain jersey because of three sprints during the stage and the uphill finish.

Stage 7 Civitanova Marche - S.Benedetto del Tronto
Only in the beginning it was a bit hard but this one will probably be for the sprinters, the Rabobank team is going to ride for a sprint because we want another win of course! Looking at San Remo Freire is in a super condition!
The break of the day were Mondory (AG2R), Petrov (AST), Taborre (ASA), Kwiatkowski (TSH), Capelle (QST). Behind them it were Graziato (FAR) and Guarniri (LIQ) who tried to join the breakaway.
They were close but it took them very long to be part of the break of the day.
It was Langeveld and the riders of Lampre who controlled the pace, the leaders were never more than 2’30” from the pack.
So they could easily be caught and now the sprint started, it was Martens in the green mountain jersey, Matthews in his national jersey and Freire in the points jersey on the right side. Martens was again going really fast, he had a lot of moral from yesterday!
With 3k to go Martens started to sprint and Matthews took over right away. While nobody choose the wheel of Freire they created a small gap and the others sprinters like Farrar (GAR) and Cavendish (HTC) started to sprint at 1,5k from the finish. Far too late and so Matthews and Freire sprinted together over the finish line.

A very good week for us, all the stages we ended up on the podium and we Freire won 4 times. Even more than he did back in 2005, it was a shame that Garate didn’t finish on the podium but with the mountain and points leaders jersey we are very happy. Garate will also ride the Vuelta a Catalunya so maybe he will shine even more in his home country! But first there will be Nokere Koerse and of course Milano – San Remo, that last race is very important for us because one of our goals is to reach the top three. But with Freire in this shape he could do it with the right help!
Tonight the Rabobank management will present the riders for the first Pro Tour classic of the season.
It's somehow "funny" to dominate a race like you did and not ending up on final podium But, hey, 4 stage-wins with Freire, another with Martens! It's worth a
Yeah you almost won every single stage on Tirreno - Adriatico! If you're going to play Milano - San Remo: Play roturn's variant. Much better than Cyanide's if you want to win with an sprinter
Leader:
Lars Boom With several hilly cobble sections this race should suite him, but most of the time it will end up in a sprint with a small group. If Lars wants to win he needs attack and ride to the finish on his own or a group of 5 maybe, still there are more important things to come.
Sprinter:
Coen Vermeltfoort If he is able to stay in the first group we aim at a top 10 spot with the young sprinter.

Leader:
Oscar Freire Is really good at the moment, with 4 wins in the Tirreno the papers said that he is the man to beat in San Remo. Breschel, Boom and a few others will help him to make it a mass sprint.
Free Roll:
Matti Breschel The most important helper and probably the lead out for Oscar, but if there are attacks on the last hills than it could also be that Matti will join them.

A smaller Belgium classic, we started with only six riders because rest is just as important during the season. We started with Boom as our leader, he was also the top favorite to win this race, but it that wasn’t his priority this season, the big races still have to come.
The usual breakaways but Rabobank, Landbouwkrediet and Francaise des Jeux kept the break in sight so the favorites will shine at the end. The other two teams wanted a sprint, we had Coen for the sprint but for us it didn’t really matter what happened tough.
Just before the final lap Boom attacks when the breakaway was caught. He created a gap of 25” after the very small hill and cobble section. But Landbouwkrediet and Francaise des Jeux immediately start chasing him down, although it took 20 kilometer to close the gap.
The plan of Francaise des Jeux worked out well, it was William Bonnet who took the win after more than 5 hours of racing. Coen became second but didn’t think about winning for only a second, William was much stronger in the sprint but a very nice result for the young Dutchman. He still has a long career in front of him…

A very long day today for the riders, 294 kilometers but they are very lucky with the weather today. Top favorite is Freire but also Farrar and Cavendish have a chance of winning, although they didn’t set some nice results jet. With Boom, Langeveld and Breschel we also have riders if thing turn out different today.
We are controlling the pace while some rider got away but not further than 2’00. Because it were some experienced riders who tried to win on another way than usual.
It were Kroon (BMC), Gerrans (SKY), Di Luca (KAT) and Montfort (LEO). In the back you see other riders of the break who already lost contact with the four strong attackers.
Michael Matthews and Thor Hushovd (GAR) together, they had a nice chat because they do have something special. Becoming world champion in Geelong 2010…
With 40k to go they caught the attackers and the pack split after one of the steeper hills along the route. All our riders expect for Breschel, Matthews and Flens weren’t in the first group of only 36 riders. The gap was 1’00” at some point.
But also these two groups came together, between the Poggio and the Cipressa there were several attacks but Lars Boom proved he was able to get further then 200k in the classics. He set the pace so none of the attackers, Ballan (BMC), Boonen (QST) or Voigt (LEO) could get away.
Boom set a hard pace at the beginning of the Poggio and then Hushovd took over, the Norwegian was very strong today and in the downhill he created a gap with Petacchi and Breschel in his wheel. Breschel took over once but after that Hushovd didn’t help anymore and Petacchi was way too exhausted already! Thor saw that Alessandro was tired but also so that Freire, Davis (AST), Boonen and Cancellara (LEO) were coming up!
That moment he made a rookie mistake, he started to sprint way to early. Petacchi couldn’t follow but Breschel could so this would be the chance of his lifetime with 2 kilometer to go. This could be his biggest victory while he wasn’t the leader of the team…
Breschel was able to overtake Hushovd and won the biggest classic in his career, a real monument has now his name on it. It was a shame that Freire couldn’t defend his win of last year because he was definatly the strongest sprinter today. He was the only one in the bunch who was able to overtake Petacchi, Alessandro just stayed in front of Cancellara, Davis and Boonen.

Juan Manuel Garate Proved that he was in a good shape already at the Tirreno but in his home country we hope for some more fire work, although the first day he will already lose some time because of the time trial.

Surprising win from Breschel. Your team continues to dominate in Italy.
Very surprising as I tried to let Freire win because it would be cool to win the Primavera for the fourth time. But faith tells otherwise! We are now leaving Italy, but Garate is going "home" maybe that counts extra too.
A short prologue, with the last kilometer a little bit uphill. Should be a stage for riders as Kreuziger (AST) or Contador (SAX). We have Clement as prologue specialist and we hope that Garate and Ten Dam don’t lose too much time.
Janez Brajkovič from RadioShack set a great time of 6’10” and became 3rd at the end.
Clement was, of course, the best Rabobank rider today, with a 7th place and a loss of 12 seconds we were fine with that. Ten Dam became 20th and was 24 seconds behind, despite Garate great form he already lost more than half a minute today, 34 seconds exactly.
Millar (GAR) was the first to beat the time of Brajkovič, with only one second tough!
Then it was Kreuziger who beat the time of Millar with 7 seconds flat. There was only one rider who could beat Roman now…
But “El Pistolero” couldn’t aim today, he lost 12 seconds and finished just before Clement.

Stage 1 Salt - Banyoles
This might be the only day for the sprinters, because of the hilly road we lay our bets on Matthews today! Leezer is his lead out if Tom is able to follow the pack.
The usual break of the day with Pedersen (LEO), Gavazzi (LAM), Rasch (GAR) and Offredo (FDJ) as the most known riders. They create a big gap to the pack within several kilometers the maximum was 6’18” while there was 70k to go.
A bit more than one local lap to do, only 13k left and still an advantage of 1’42” for the break. Maybe a strong rider could survive.
But they caught the break with 4k to go, Leezer leads out Matthews but he got a little bit boxed in. Leezer also loses a lot of speed so Matthews is now on his own.
A great sprint from Michael but was it enough? Even the riders didn’t see who won, with 7 riders next to each other the jury had to check the camera’s at the line. It was Astana rider Bazayev who won, so another victory for them. Matthews became 5th.

Stage 2 La Vall d'En Bas - La Seu d'Urgell
The first hard stage of this pretty hard stage race, with several mountain and hilly stages it really is a though week for the riders. We aim at Ten Dam and Garate for the GC.
The pace was very high in the beginning, Rasmussen (HTC) and Kryvtsov (LAM) already lost contact after 4k, it would be a very long day for them. But they made it in time, so they could suffer some more tomorrow.
The break of today, with ex Rabobank rider and national champion of Curacao Marc de Maar! He moved to Curacao so he was able to ride the world championships every year without any problems. But now Curacao is a part of the Antillen and that is a part of the Netherlands, well a very long story but probably no world championships for Marc. Some other riders were Serpa (AND), Horrach (KAT) and Tosatto (SAX).
But Astana kept a steady pace and they never got further than 4 minutes away.
With 20k to go it was Contador (SAX) and Soler (MOV) who attacked, but Garmin and Astana chased them down immediately.
So Contador attacked again and the Astana helpers looked a bit tired now, this could be our chance so Laurens tried to stay in the wheel of Bertje.
But Kreuziger (AST) closed the gap himself and attacked, it was Pujol (OLO) who surprisingly was able to follow Roman today.
But it was Garmin-Cervelo who brought the group back to Kreuziger, that was really strong because it looked like Kreuziger was going for the win with 31” in front with 5k to go. The sprint starts but Garate went a little bit too early.
It was Ryder Hesjedal who won in front of his teammate Zabriskie, also Kreuziger stayed in front of Garate who became 4th.
Results:

Stage 3 Oliana - Ascó
A very hard stage with two times the Alt de Paulmeres at the end, again we will ride for Ten Dam and Garate but it’s really hard to create gaps here. Maybe today.
The breakaway with Brazilian national champion Fischer (GAR), another ex Rabobank rider Engels (QST), Pedersen (LEO), Veikkanen (OLO), Perez Arrieta (LAM), Ponzi (LIQ), Smukulis (HTC) and Milan (CAJ).
Astana for Kreuziger and Francaise des Jeux for Casar who were keeping a steady pace to keep control over the breakaway.
Only 38 riders in the first peloton now, with 20k the leaders were still 2’07 in front. You see Mosquera (VAC) and Basso (LIQ) having a hard time but they were just able to stay in the group.
Milan won in front of Engels and Veikkanen, the other breakaway riders got reeled in and it was Vacansoleil rider Carrara who easily won the sprint of the first group at 53”. In the descent of the last climb the second group came back so the pack was pretty big with 80 riders.
Results:
1 Diego Milán Caja Rural 5h02'58
2 Addy Engels Quick•Step Cycling Team s.t.
3 Jussi Veikkanen Omega Pharma - Lotto s.t.
Stage 4 Ascó - Cabacés
Another hard stage with a uphill finish, Garate is getting better and better every day so he will probably be stronger than Ten Dam. Will see today because Garate is still further behind in the GC because of the prologue.
It were Siutsou (HTC), Meersman (FDJ), Denifl (LEO), Lagutin (VAC) and Seeldraeyers (QST) as the most known riders in the breakaway of today. With 100k they had a advantage of only 3’05.
Astana was keeping the control in the peloton…
With 20k started the last real climb of today, the advantage was still 1’14 and there were some strong riders still in front Lloyd (OLO), Pietropolli (LAM) and Tschopp (BMC) who attacked at 50k of the finish but never really got far.
Garate had really good legs today (+4) so he set the pace a bit higher in the peloton, but when he saw that some riders had difficulties he attacked.
He reached the first riders and had a gap of 31” to the peloton, but the three riders didn’t let go on the downhill and flat part so that was a small problem with Pietropolli as a very good hilly sprinter.
But at the first part of the last hill they had to let go of the Spaniards wheel, now the sprint began and Pietropolli and the pack was coming very hard.
He did it! After several good results of Juanma he finally got his win! Now we hoped on a gap so he would come a bit closer in the GC. It was 9 seconds according to the jury, so now Garate was also in the top 10. Rabobank has now 4 riders within the first 10, that’s because of the riders who were in front of them in the GC all lost time and every stage it was a large group who finished as first.

1. Thanks, it was also unexpected for us!
2. Because I was never on Benelux actually intill a couple of weeks a go... Is it more fun on NCL?
Leader:
Matti Breschel This is the time some of the guys trained for so now the results will speak for itself. Hopefully Matti is able to ride a nice result, after winning San Remo he has much confidence and with a strong back up team we are not afraid for Leopard, Quick Step and probably the strongest team in the cobble season Garmin-Cervelo
Sprinter:
Graeme Brown Breschel is also a good sprinter so the Dane will be first in ranking, but maybe Graeme is able to help Matti or ride a nice result himself. But the management thinks that the course might be a little bit too hard for him.
Lead Out:
Coen Vermeltfoort Has the same function as Graeme but should be able to hold on longer, maybe a top 20 for him but the field is very strong.

Lars Boom Is very strong at the moment, with just a few days left to the KBC Driedaagse he is putting the end of the strings together in his trainingschedule.

Oscar Freire Already won here once and last year he was very close, he was in the front group of twelve but all the other riders did everything to get away from our Spaniard. Maybe he has a bit more luck this time if he will survive the cobbled hills.

Theo Bos If he is able to hold on he or Breschel will lead out Freire. But we don’t think he’s able too yet, his form isn’t really good at the moment and the hills might be a little bit too much today.
