@ FreitasPCM and Baia
Thank you
@valverde321
Wow, thank you for this compliment. Don't know what to say really
Tour Down Under - Stage 1
Clare - Tanunda
First stage of this year's Tour Down Under is mostly flat. The only categorized hill will come at the start and shouldn't cause many problems. Cavendish wshould be the rider to beat here, along Farrar, Pettachi and Hagen, this should make for one hell of finale.
Pre-Tactics Meeting
From the start we need to be preety active. Our plan is to keep peleton togehter and let Simon attack before the hill for the KoM points. Then all depedning if the break stays we will sit in peleton or prepare for the intermediate sprints. EBH will be left out of them, with Swift being our sprinter. At the finish the whole team will work for EBH, if all goes well we should come away with at least podium finish.
The race begins according to our plan. Jeremy Hunt and Matthew Hayman controlled the peleton so the break wouldn't gain too much time. At 3.5km to go, Simon attacks !
And triumphs ! Nobody could close him down. Great start for the race for him and the team.
Nobody looked to want to do the pace, and as Simon was the only rider from the break that managed espace, we decided we try and win the intermediate sprint with him.
The brightly-shinning Sun doesn't help he riders, but Gerro is used to it. It will be close race whether he wins the points and the bonus seconds.
But it plans out even better, with Swift just winning the first sprint ahead of Gerrans.
1st Intermediate Sprint
Spoiler 1st Ben Swift (Sky)
2nd Simon Gerrans (Sky).
3rd Davide Viganò (Leopard)
Few kilometres later, there's another sprint and Swift wins it again, Cavendish started his sprint too late and finishes on the 4th position.
2nd Intermediate Sprint
Spoiler 1st Ben Swift (Sky)
2nd Coen Vermeltfoort (Rabobank)
3rd Grega Bole (Lampre)
Robert Hunter ( Radioshack ) and Jake Keough ( United HealthCare ) try their luck. The chances of the espace are low, so we decided to let them go.
Garmin controlled the race preety well today, they must be preety confident about Farrar's chances today. With 40km to go, the situation looks like this :
Peloton | < +3'40 > | E1 | | ... | | Robert Hunter (TRS) | | | ... | | Jake Keough (UHC) | |
*This type sreenshot will be used only once in race, showing you the riders daily form and how they fare with the percentages and the red and yellow bars. Hope it helps to understand the situation better*
As you can see, all our riders are looking fine so far. Nothing spectacular, but every rider is feeling fine. We will hope for better days to come.
The Sky Train was looking great to the point where the Liquigas rider bloked Matthew. We slowed down and had to catch up with the other trains, but it was all too late to catch the flying HTC train on the left with Mark sitting very comfortably.
Flame Rouge ! The Manx Missile accelarated behind Degenkolb's wheel looking unstoppable. Siwfty saved our train and lead Hagen to a decent position in the middle, but could he fight for a podium ?
Yes he could. Edvald ends the day with 3rd place finish, which we are quite happy with, considering what had happened to our train. Mark was different class though, but he is beatable. Finetto on 2nd is surprising, must had great day today. Could become quite threat if he keeps this form up.

After-Tactics Meeting
We are very happy with how our team rode today. Simon took the opportunity and is rewarded with the jersey. Then the two Intermediate Sprints went just perfect for us. We might be a bit unlucky as the team didn't feel great today and our sprint train wasn't best, but we should be more focused on tomorrow and hoping for a first stage win of this new season.
Simon putting brave effort in his bid to become Tour Down Under best climber.

It's a nice start from Eddy. Stages 3 and 5 might be better for him because of the inclines during the competition. |

Thank you, I really hope for stage 3, as the finish is uphill. Though we hope we can do something on stage 2 too.
Stage 2 coming up later so stay tuned !

@valverde321 I think we are Thank yo so much for your great comments, very much appreciated, keeps me motivated to go on even further
@ tsmoha and Spilak23 Hehe, yeah Thanks very much and we hope we can go two places better, soon.
@ baia Thanks Me too actually, today was close, but... Stage 3 I think is the stage we really like our chances in.
Tour Down Under - Stage 2
Gawler - Hahndorf
Second Stage of this year's edition is another flat stage, sprinters should have final say on the finish, but don't discount breakaway, if they get over the hills with decent gap, it will be hard to take it for peleton back on the descent.
Pre-Tactics Meeting
We don't have any special plans for today. We won't send anyone into break, though if there is chance for some KoM points, Gerrans will go for them. On the finish we will work for EBH, and we are hoping for another podium place.
Big escaped tried it early on the stage. Luke Roberts, not being the fastest but the most tactical in the sprint, have won it. Although the gap is merely a minute and it looks like they will be caught shortly.
1st Intermediate Sprint
Spoiler 1st Luke Roberts (Saxo Bank)
2nd Maarten Neyens (Omega Pharma)
3rd Wesley Sulzberger (FDJ)
After the break has been caught, Simon tried an solo attack, it looked like he would made the gap, but unfortunately he suffered a puncture and we decided to let the peleton catch him and try another attack at the KoM.
Yarsoslav with a very sneaky attack wins the KoM. We weren't uber conscious and it looked like nobody was going attack so we went easy with Gerrans, bit mistaken here, but still we get 2nd. And hopefully, we will learn from the mistakes.
The pace was controlled by HTC - Highroad. After the KoM point, two attackers joined forces together, Lars Boom ( Rabobank ) and Angel Vicioso ( Androni ). The peleton let them espace, having already deficit to the leaders. With 40km to go:
Peloton | < +4'40 > | E1 | | ... | | Lars Boom (RAB) | | | ... | | Angel Vicioso (AND) |
With 10km to go the gap to the break is over 2 minutes and it looks like they managed to hold off the raging peleton, now HTC are trying everything to at least keep Mark in the leader's jersey for another day.
The gap is going down, with 3km to go it's only 1'40. That should enough for break to win and one of them lead the Overall Standings. In peleton, Edvald found Cavendish wheel, and was in near perfect situation.
And Angel takes the win for his Continental outfit. They must be pretty pleased with him today, as he will take both stage win and the lead. The peleton definitely disregarded today's two man break. We will see to it that tomorrow won't be the same.
Eddy takes another podium, beating Mark quite easily. It pains to say it was for only for 3rd place, but it is good showing nonetheless and very good sign for tomorrow. CJ on 10th is another good result for us today.

After-Tactics Meeting
This is slightly disappointing result, we thought the break would be caught but it wasn't. Hagen felt great on the day, shown that by beating Cav and gaining another important seconds. We are slightly annoyed but happy with the way the race went, and really hoping for tomorrow as our best chance yet to take our first stage win. We will control the peleton, so the break definitely won't make it too.

When there's a break succeeding, Eddy comes first in the peloton. It's a luck they were behind in the GC, with the bonifications, you're still fighting for the win. |

@Tooom3k Thanks, see for yourself
@FreitasPCM Yea Agreed, Vicioso could prove quite challenger now with decent hill and sprint stat, let's see how will he cope on stage 3.
@cunego59 Thank you very much, really appreciated. Trying to have similar standard as your brilliant story with Dominik
Tour Down Under - Stage 3
Unley - Stirling
Third Stage is one of the harder, if not the hardest in this year Down Under route. There's many hills to be climbed today and the finish is uphill, suiting likes of Hagen, Freire or Finetto. Other puncheurs here like Chavanel, Gutierrez or Popovych might give it a go today as well.
Pre-Tactics Meeting
The plan is simple. Control the race. This will be the key today, we are going to give break some time, but after the first intermediate sprint we will start our work, with expectations that there will be no break when we begin ascent on the final hill. Then it goes to Gerrans and Eddy to finish this stage off. Wish us luck !
The race started as expected. Many attackers, big break and an excting fight in the intermediate sprint won by Maxim Iglinskiy.
1st Intermediate Sprint
Spoiler Maxim Iglinskiy (Astana)
2nd Brett Lancaster (Garmin)
3rd Matteo Tosatto (Saxo Bank)
After that point, Swifty, Hayman and Hunt did most of the job at the front, slowly catching up the break. Nordhaug and Sutton were both protecting our two leaders.
2nd Intermediate Sprint
Spoiler 1st Christophe Riblon (AG2R)
2nd Gianni Meersman (FDJ)
3rd Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil)
King of Mountain Points
Spoiler 1st Johnny Hoogerland (Vacansoleil)
2nd Gianni Meersman (FDJ)
3rd Fabian Wegmann (Leopard)
Precisely after the KoM point, the break had been caught, planned to perfection. Hagen and Simon both had +1 on the day, so all was looking good. On the seconds last hill Greg Van Avermaet attacked, surprisingly followed by Viciosio . Would they be able to keep off the hot pursuing peleton ? I don't think so. Brave effort nonetheless.
They were shortly caught after. 6km to go and Ivan Gutierrez tries with late attack ! Though Gerrans is now in full swing and is leading Eddy up front, looking good so far.
Gerrans power showed as we caught every escapee and at 2.3km to go Hagen tries an attack. He is blocked by Quickstep rider so must go the longer way, will that cost him his victory ?
Flame Rouge ! The sprint starts, Gutierrez leading, but Hagen is looking tremendously well, he overtakes Ivan and with 800 metres left he starts to sprint.... will he have enough in tank to hold on ?
Yes he will. Edvald Boasson Hagen takes the first victory for our team and takes over the overall standings. Eddy The BOSS ! Gutierrez takes impressive 2nd and Chavanel completes the podium.

After-Tactics Meeting
After two podiums, Edvald took our first victory in the season. With that he took overall, which is a bonus really. We can't be prouder how the team rode today, after yesterday break win, Sky triple: Swift, Hunt and Hayman worked almost the whole stage to not let any break gain too much advantage and their work paid off. Gerrans brilliantly lead Eddy on the last 3kms and it was then matter of not falling down for Eddy I guess. Brilliant day and we sure going to celebrate tonight.
