Tirreno - Adriatico
"Tirreno–Adriatico, the "race of the two seas", is an elite cycle race following a route between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts of Italy. Traditionally held in early season, it is considered important preparation for the Milan – San Remo classic race. From 2005 to 2007, it was part of the UCI ProTour calendar, and although it was reclassified in 2008 as a UCI Europe Tour event, when organiser RCS withdrew all their events from the UCI's premier calendar, it became part of the UCI World Ranking calendar the following year"
Philippe Info:
Philippe's Comment: "I am in good shape so lets bring this race on! I am looking for stage wins and a top 5 in the Gc would have been niche as well. However, the hills doesn't looks to decesive to me so I will have to perform in the sprints."

Tirreno -Adriatcio starts with an hilly stage. A chanche for Gilbert to take the leader jersey immediately.
Omega Pharma works hard for Gilbert. The pace is hard and several sprinters are in troble. The last part of the stage is an criterium in Sorrento.
On the last lap in Sorrento Philippe attacks and rides away from the pack. He wins the stage in front of Cavendish and Thomas (Rapha). Unfourtanley there was no time gap.

First flat stage of Tirreno, but it'sn ot an easy one! the small hill in the end of the stage can make some trouble.
Philippe is in the blue leader jersey. Will he be able to defend it until next hilly stage or will some sprinter pass him?
Francisco José Ventoso (Leopard) wins the stage. Greipel is our best placed rider at 4th. Philippe make an good sprint and finishes as 9th.

Stage 3 is an stage for sprinter. We have to watch out for Ventoso. If he finich whitin the top 3 he will take the lead from Philippe.
Norweigan Thor Hushovd wins the stage in front of another powerful sprinter, André Greipel. Hushovd takes the lead from Philippe in the GC with 4 seconds.

At stage 4 we enter the hills again. This stage suits fast puncheurs and will probaby end up in a buunch sprint.
There is another Norweigan stage win! Edvald Boasson Hagen wins in front of Philippe. A close shor for Philippe but, at least, he takes back the lead with 2 seconds!

Stage 5 is the queen's stage od Tirreno -Adriatico. Philippe must defend his shirt today!
Philippe, Damiano Cunego (Liquigas) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) is in the lead in the last downhill selection. Philippe is tored and can't follow Boasson Hagen when he attacks in the downhill.
Boasson wins the stage and Philippe is 2nd again. The norwegan monster takes the lead from Philippe as well.

The last hilly stage is the last oppertunity for Philippe to take the lead back.
Philippe waits until the last hill and makes and all in. Either he will take back the lead or he will lose it.
Team Sky works hard and Philippe is caught. Edvald takes the sprint, altough he made an attack with 4 kms to go! He is in great shape and will win the GC for sure.

The final stage is flat and Philippe is 38 second behind Boasson. There is no way we will take back the lead but we could may win this stage with Greipel.
The wind blows har along the coast. Greipel takes the stage and Philippe takes an suprising 3rd! Edvald Boasson Hagen is tired and 18th. However, he wins the GC 34 second ahead of Philippe.

Great T-A! Too bad Boasson Hagen was able to create a gap on that downhill. Still a great result for Philippe, considering that his shape isn't on top yet.

Unfortunatly, Gilbert had no chances with Hagen's shape, but in the other hand, it was a positive Tirreno with the stage wins. |

"Milan – San Remo, "la classica di Primavera", is an annual cycle race between Milan and Sanremo. It is the longest professional one-day race at 298 km. The first was in 1907, when Lucien Petit-Breton won. Today it is one of the 'Monuments' of European cycling, and results contribute towards the UCI World Ranking; until 2007 it was part of the UCI ProTour.
Milan – San Remo is often called the sprinters' classic while its sister Italian race the Giro di Lombardia held in autumn is the climbers' classic."

Three Favourites:
Marc Cavendish (Rapha) is the fastest sprinter in the world. Showed his shape in Tirreno with some podium spots. He have developed his climbing skills and was third on a hilly stage in Tirreno, just behind Boasson Hagen and Philippe Gilbert. Cipressa and Poggia will be easy for him!
Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) is in very good shape. Climbed better than Philippe Gilbert in Tirreno - Adriatico so he can either attack or wait until the sprint.
Fabian Cancellara (Leopard) isn't the best sprinter but he is amazing on the flat. After 300kms of bike racing he can actually outsprint faster guys as Cavendish. He can also attack in il Poggio or Cipressa. The only question: Is he in shape?
Philippe Info:
Marc's Comment: "Philippe is good shape after his 2nd in Tirreno - Adriatico. Wh have nothing to hide, he will attack in Poggio!"
Philippe have been equipped withan Polar CS500 so we will be able to see his heart rate during Milano - San Remo!
Lastly, Milano - SanRemo is an important classic but not one of the 10, so there is NO betting this time.

[img-l]https://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3357/35212073.png[/img-l] Milano - San Remo [img-r]https://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3357/35212073.png[/img-r]
The course isn't the hardest one but Passo del Turchino, La Mánie, la Cipressa and il Poggio can give some sprinters problems, especially after 300kms of bike racing.
The sun shines in Milano! A great day for bike racing!
The race starts and a break with 6 cyclist are created. There is no Omega Pharma rider in the break since we know that teams like Sky and Rapha will work to catch the break.
Thomas "Gotland" Löfkvist leads the bunch at the top of Passo del Turchino. Our main sprinter, André Greipel, can follow the bunch without any problems.
Sky, Garmin and Rapha is pacing uphill Le Mánie. Greipel can still follow without any problems.
The bunch reaches the coast lines again and it blows hard. Many riders has problems to follow the bunch but Philippe looks realaxed. His heart rate is 163 bpm. This looks like a great day for Philippe.
Alessandro Ballan (BMC) and Tom Boonen (Quickstep) attacks. Jan Bakelandts and Jussi Veikkanen works in the bunch to catch them and that causes the sprinters a lot of trouble. John Degenkolb and Adam Blyhe drops the bunch over the three small hills called, Capo Mele, Capo Berta and Capo Cervo.
Ryder Hesjedal (Rapha) leads the bunch over la Cipressa. Philippe's heart rate is even lower than on the flat, 154 bpm. At the same time, André Greipel drops the bunch.
The bunch enter il Poggio and Philippe attacks! No one tries to follow him, are they too tired or is Philippe simply too fast?
Philippe can see the finish in San Remo from il Poggio and that gives him a lot of cinfidence. His heart rate is around 190 bpm by now, which means his on max. His gap is 40 seconds when he reaches the top of il Poggio!
The technical dowhill of Poggio can be dangerous with such a small gap but Philippe rides controlled and when he reaches the bottom is his gap even bigger, 50 seconds!
The bunch can spot Philippe with 1km to go but he has secured his win with his amazing attack in il Poggio! Who will win the bunch sprint and take the 2nd?
Philippe Gilbert wins Milano - San Remo 2013 after an attack in il Poggio! Alan Davis (Katusha) is 2nd and Fabian Cancellara (Leopard) is 3rd.

E3 Prijs Vlaanderen and Gen Wevelgem
It's time for the second and third of our 10 most important classic, E3 Prijs Vlaanderen and Gent Wevelgem. The two races ar pretty similar with cobbles and steep hills but they usually ends up in a bunch sprint. Thre is only two things that can split the bunch here: Crosswinds and shitty weather!
E3 Prijs Vlaanderen is the first of theese two races. The cousre reminds a lot of Ronde van Vlaanderen but the last 20 kms to the finish are plain and easy, if thre isn't any crosswinds. The cousre suits an all-round sprinter like Breschel and Boonen or an rider with an amazing speed on flat like Cancellara.
Talking about Cancellara, he won this race in 2010 and 2011 after two amazing shows, especially in 2011. However, in 2012 he didn't participate and the race was won by Tom Boonen ahead of Stijn Devolder and Thor Hushovd. Philippe was 6th. This year we hope for something better!

Marc's Comment: "Philippe will lead the team. His plan is to make an attack but if he fails and finds himself in the bunch with 20kms to go, he will work for Degenkolb who is a better sprinter."
Philippe Info:
Marc's Comment: "There is no doubt, Philippe is in great shape. There is only one question: We may have peaked to early! He skipped Dwaars door Vlanderen because of that reson but now is there no time to be afraid,we have to race!"

Philippe's Comment: "Take a look in the list of favourites... 4 Katusha riders! Katusha is the strongest team but Omega Pharma is close. This will be a hard fight between us, especially since Quickstep isn't participate.
Wheater Forecast:
Cludy and 9° C.
Gent - Wevelgem is probaly one of the easiest classics. Especislly when there is no wind and nice wheather. The only challange on this cousre is Kemmelberg, one mythical and cobbled climb. Once it was ridden downhill on cobbles as well but after an horrible rash a couple of years ago they don't do that anymore. So now is it even easier for the sprinters to take an win here and more difficult for puncheurs, like Philippe, to escape.
Last year, Fabian Cancellara won this race. He attacked with 10kms to go and disappeared. Behind Filippo Pozatto won the sprint and Thor Hushovd was 3rd.

Marc's Comment: " Philippe and "Summie" will attack while Greipel and Degenkolb will wait for the sprint. This tactic can't fail?
