Team News #35: Breaking News - Main sponsors breaks contract!
Shocking news was publiced on the team's website today. Apparently, the team's two main sponsors, Ferrari and ERG, aren't happy with the situation at the moment and has decided to break the contract, even though they were originally set to stay with us also over the next season. They'll follow Specialized's footsteps by leaving the team at the end of this season. We thank them for helping us establish the team during this first season.
The team's general manager, Mr. Pellizotti, was of course asked for an opinion about this sudden change. To most people's surprise, he seemed very calm and insisted that this is not the end of the team. In fact, he hinted that negotiations has already begun with a couple of possible sponsor replacements.
He left with the words: "The team will not only continue, but also grow stronger."

Team News #36: Caruso fourth in target race
The team's big climbing star, Gianpaolo Caruso, has once again brought us some very well needed points. This time from the short, mountainous Brixia Tour. When we first saw the startlist for this race, we got worried that we'd struggle to record a top result, but Caruso proved himself as one of the CT's best climbers. A fourth and a fifth place on the two crucial stages eventually landed him a fourth place overall, behind the likes of Pozzovivo, Rujano and Alarcon. We're satisfied.
Caruso with the very best climbers in the CT.
Final General Classfication:
1 | Domenico Pozzovivo | Vespa - Aprilia - De Rosa | 16h00'42 | 2 | José Rujano | Pokerstars.com | + 33 | 3 | Jose Alarcon | Aker Solutions - Bergans | + 57 | 4 | Gianpaolo Caruso | Ferrari - ERG | + 1'47 | 5 | Igor Antón | Team CSC-Orbea | + 3'26 | 6 | Fabio Duarte | Team Venchi ProCycling | + 3'29 | 7 | Mikayil Krasnoperov | Emu Export | + 4'07 | 8 | Manuel Lloret | Team Bianchi | + 4'48 | 9 | Jairo Agudelo | Aker Solutions - Bergans | + 5'07 | 10 | Pedro Nicácio | Cerne | + 5'50 |

Team News #37: New sponsor deal close
The team management are, according to several sources, close to a new sponsor deal. Some of the sources also reports that the new main sponsor of the team is a big, global company. An anonymous person has apparently overheard a conversation between Mr. Pellizotti and a few important looking men. Apparently, the team plans on dropping the nationality's importance ahead of the new season, and instead become a multinational team.
Mr. Pellizotti with the possible new sponsor's representaries.
We're working on finding Mr. Pellizotti for an interview, but we've so far been unsuccessful. Either way, it looks like the team's future is indemnified.

Team News #38: Team's future secured
On today's press conference, head manager Mr. Pellizotti confirmed that a new sponsor has signed a deal with the team. He also verified that the company is a huge, global one with a lot of money for the team. The only thing we couldn't shake out of him, no matter how much we tried, was the name.
Pellizotti responded with: "The new team name is yet to be decided."

Well this sounds promising. Going for a more multinational feel I think will leave a lot of your riders without contracts next year.

Yeah, I'm quite excited about revamping my team, although there's still a long time left. I'm keen to do a better job this transfer season than the last one.
You've got a good point too, and I'm quite sure that I'll drop quite a few of the weaker riders in favour for a more balanced squad. At the moment, not even the strongest riders are confirmed to stay. It will all depend on how the renewals go.

Intresting to see who you confirm as the sponsors as it could see a change in team completely if you left europe for a sponsor for example would mean a complete change of riders. |

Team News #39: New jersey?
A picture of Gianpaolo Caruso and Przemyslaw Niemiec training together on Col de la Madeleine has created a lot of rumours on the internet. The reason is that the two Ferrari riders were seen wearing a different jersey than usual. No sign of the red and green colours we've seen them participate in during the season.
Is it perhaps the team's new jersey? And if so, who could the new sponsor be?

Team News #40: Another peak at the mysterious jersey
We had a first look at the potential new team jersey a week ago, but the riders were too far in the distance to tell any details. A new picture has now been published by the team management as a first real look at the design. The shot is quite blurry, but it might be possible to name one or two of the sponsors.

This looks like a nice new shirt My only guess is, that it's a laidbackmarc-design, which is good.

Team News #40: Jersey officially presented!
The weeks of waiting are over - here's finally the team's new jersey.
We've managed to secure ourselves two big sponsors in the shapes of Mastercard and Cisco. While the first of those provide the jersey's main colours, the latter will be the new name sponsor, turning the team into Cisco Cycling Team. The only sponsor who stays with us from this year is Selle Italia, who stays secondary. We'll be riding Batavus bikes during the season, while Giro provides us with helmets. Castelli will supply our clothes, while photo company Cewe and oil company Q8 will bring in some more money.
The jersey is designed by the same man as last year, Mr. A. N. Freeman, who once again did a terrific job. Anyway, take a look at it below and tell us what you think!

Nice jersey, obviously you like the Androni-stlye. Should be easy to spot in the peloton. Will you go for a mixed US-American/German team?

Very nice jersey. Really like the colours. A little bit summer mix.
And it also shows how amateur like my jersey will look like. Great job ANFreeman. |

Nah, I've seen how crazy you Germans go on the transfer market...
But honestly, I'll approach the transfer season with plans for a very international team. Sort of like a complete opposite to how it was this year. We'll see how it turns out.

Yeah, all of ANF's jerseys are top class. I'm very happy with this one.

Team News #41: Poland brings stage win
In an otherwise rather mediocre race, the team managed to at least pick up a surprising stage win. Together with David de la Fuente (Bianchi), Gatis Smukulis (Trilux) and Ivan Rovny (Tinkoff), he jumped away from the main field inside the final twenty kilometers of the second stage of the Tour of Poland.
The sprinters' teams underestimated their strength, allowing them enough of a gap to battle for the stage win. Late addition Haijuan Ma (Proximus) attempted to catch the rest of the escape group off guard with a sneaky attack near the finish, but the move was shut down by Smukulis, who accelerated a bit too early in this manouevre. This gave Santambrogio a perfect kick of speed, just about enough for him to come around for the stage win.
Santambrogio celebrates victory!

Team News #42: Catching up
Due to lack of spare time, I haven't been able to update from our last few races. This will now change with a quick catch-up from all of them.
We start off with Vuelta a Burgos. Team captain Niemiec started off in a convincing way by gaining a few seconds in the hard uphill finish on stage two, together with a couple of other strong names. Unfortunately, our team's time trial weakness costed him a lot of time in the TTT, where we couldn't manage any better than second last.
Niemiec leading our weak TTT squad to thirteenth.
The race eventually ended in a positive way however, with Niemiec showing strength on the race's last stage, which also happened to be the queen stage. Beaten only by a strong breakaway and José Rujano, he moved his way up to a decent eigth overall.
Niemiec tops Van den Broeck atop the Lagunas de Neila climb.
Final General Classification:
1 | Manuel Lloret | Team Bianchi | 16h39'20 | 2 | Igor Antón | Team CSC-Orbea | + 1'09 | 3 | Pedro Nicácio | Cerne | + 4'19 | 4 | José Rujano | Pokerstars.com | + 4'31 | 5 | John-Lee Augustyn | Emu Export | + 4'44 | 6 | Peter Stetina | California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized | + 5'44 | 7 | Vadim Ratiy | VolksWagen - Siemens | + 5'51 | 8 | Przemyslaw Niemiec | Ferrari - ERG | + 5'53 | 9 | Jurgen Van den Broeck | Pirelli - Alfa Romeo | + 6'02 | 10 | Klaas Vantornout | Team Bianchi | + 6'23 |
Caruso then returned to racing in one of the year's few mountainous one day races, Urkiola Igoera. A strong startlist led by CT's huge climbing star, José Alarcon, showed up alongside him, turning this into a difficult task.
The 2012 Urkiola Igoera.
As expected, the real action kicked off when we reached the final climb, leading all the way up to the finish line. The plan was to be visible in the finale, something Caruso made sure of by being the first to pounce on the steep slopes.
Scatta di Caruso!
Attacks then flew all over the place until Alarcon decided that it was time to shake the others off. Nobody managed to pull the Venezuelan back, as he soloed away to victory ahead of Domenico Pozzovivo. Caruso ended up in a strong fourth place, beaten to third by Fabio Duarte. We're happy with the result.
Duarte nabs the final podium spot from Caruso.
1 | Jose Alarcon | Aker Solutions - Bergans | 4h02'59 | 2 | Domenico Pozzovivo | Vespa - Aprilia - De Rosa | + 31 | 3 | Fabio Duarte | Team Venchi ProCycling | + 1'14 | 4 | Gianpaolo Caruso | Ferrari - ERG | + 1'20 | 5 | Matteo Carrara | Vespa - Aprilia - De Rosa | s.t. | 6 | Jurgen Van den Broeck | Pirelli - Alfa Romeo | + 1'25 | 7 | Igor Antón | Team CSC-Orbea | + 1'35 | 8 | Thomas Lövkvist | Saab - Scania | s.t. | 9 | Richard Ochoa Quintero | Hollister | + 1'45 | 10 | Fredrik Kessiakoff | Team WWE | s.t. |
The pressure was then moved from Caruso's shoulders back to Niemiec, as he travelled down to Swaziland as team leader. It began pretty much perfectly, when the Polish champion timetrialled his way to victory in the opening prologue, beating Rapha duo Tennant and Stannard by quite a margin.
A Pole tops the two Brits in southern Africa.
He then continued to line up good results on the following stages, including Top 5 spots on the race's two crucial mountain stages. These performances earned us a fifth place in the overall plus victory in the points classification. One of the brighter races over the past period.
Niemiec in green leads home the group on stage five.
Final General Classification:
1 | Jose Alarcon | Aker Solutions - Bergans | 22h26'56 | 2 | Mikayil Krasnoperov | Emu Export | + 58 | 3 | Amaël Moinard | Jayco - Red Bull | + 1'17 | 4 | Zakayo Ndbri | Rapha Condor - Qhubeka | + 1'23 | 5 | Przemyslaw Niemiec | Ferrari - ERG | + 1'25 | 6 | Francisco Colorado | Team CSC-Orbea | + 1'34 | 7 | Theo Eltink | Saab - Scania | + 1'58 | 8 | Moises Dueñas | Team CSC-Orbea | + 2'01 | 9 | Jonas Bjelkmark | Saab - Scania | + 2'03 | 10 | Dimitri Jiriakov | Rapha Condor - Qhubeka | + 2'06 |
To round off, we should also report from the Canadian classics. Québec ended up being quite a success, with an excellent sixth place from Salerno, just under a minute behind the winner, Ryder Hesjedal. Unfortunately he wasn't able to surprise again in Montréal, and finished 15th.
Salerno crosses the line as sixth.
1 | Ryder Hesjedal | Team Rothaus - Aegon | 5h34'31 | 2 | Koldo Gil | Team Bianchi | s.t. | 3 | Alessandro Proni | Hollister | + 52 | 4 | Dimitri Claeys | Team Bianchi | s.t. | 5 | Cesare Di Maggio | Team Venchi ProCycling | s.t. | 6 | Cristiano Salerno | Ferrari - ERG | s.t. | 7 | Francesco Ginanni | Vespa - Aprilia - De Rosa | s.t. | 8 | Marcel Wyss | Saab - Scania | s.t. | 9 | Chris Anker Sørensen | Team WWE | s.t. | 10 | Lorenzo Bernucci | UniCredit | s.t. |
