Thanks Avin. I hope so, too.
I felt almost sorry for spamming so much today here. But so many different things. 2 stages in one including the first ever stage win. Interviews after the race and a new race starting soon.
I also don`t think that I will continue like this for the whole season, but we`ll see later. |

Tour Mediterraneen Blog - Jakub Novak
You have started your career in the new German Team Rothaus - Aegon as loanie from Milka - Vittel. How is your first impression?
It`s great to get such a chance. The difference between CT and PT isn`t too big and the races here are already on a pretty high level. Of course everyones goal is to ride the Tour de France once in your life, but I still need to learn and this is better in the Continental division. I think that Rothaus - Aegon was a good choice as I get some freedoms here but also good teachers in Hesjedal, Boom or Hermans.
The season has just started. How was it for you so far?
Actually it worked much better than expected. Luckily I had some kind of a free role in Wellington, so i was able to get the KoM jersey on the very first day. This was a big surprise for me and unfortunately I lost it already on the next day although I was in the breakaway. But there I saw the difference between me and the more experienced riders.
But still you managed a decent 40th in the overall.
Yes, it was indeed a good start. I trained a lot in the winter and now it shows his effect and hopefully it continues like this.
Jakub Novak in the break of Tour Mediterraneen
Yesterday you have been in the breakaway in the Tour Mediterraneen again. Do you aim a development into riders like Jens Voigt or Thomas Voecker in future?
Nah, these two are big stars in their countries and pure fighters. I don`t think I can do this that many times. At the moment it seems that many riders still looking for their form and I already have a pretty good one.
The breakaway yesterday also wasn`t planned before. When the first attacks came I had the best position and so I got the "okay" from the manager. Unfortunately there were no intermediates on the way and the sprinter teams caught us before the finish. But hopefully I can try it again in this race. The stages should suit me a lot. But the main goal for us is to help our leader Ryder Hesjedal, who has far better chances to do well in the overall.
So what are your goals for this season?
In first case to improve into a better rider by learning from our leaders and other riders in the peloton. I have a good surrounding here and am just looking forward for this season with already many higlights for me. A good stage or overall result would of course also be taken, but then I must continue to attack.
You mentioned some highlights. What especially are you meaning with it?
One highlight is of course my home tour. I am riding the Tour of the Czech Republic, where I want to present myself and also helping our team there.
But of course races like the Corsica International or Vuelta a Burgos are already almost on Pro Tour level and so I might learn a lot there, although I might find my limits there.
Thanks for the interview and good luck for the rest of the Mediterraneen Tour and the season
Thanks a lot. |

Yeah, this is probably because of the stupidity of the interviewer, who didn`t ask.
I just thought that it`s boring to have a similar type of race report on every stage. So I try to make some in interviews, some like a rider blog/diary and some like the ones in Wellington.
And with Novak surprisingly being that active in the first 6 stages this interview was best suited I think. |

Hopefully, he will get some nice points for you as well.

Actually he collected already 6 more points than expected.
Pretty sure some breakaway points will be added during the season.
And I am pretty sure that he will be ready to join your squad next season with some nice skills, same as Vesely. |

Tour Mediterraneen - Rothaus` attacks not rewarded
Today we rode the 2nd stage of the Tour Mediterraneen. We are pretty happy about the riding of our riders.
Thomas Koep, who rides his first ever race here attacked with some others and collected some points in the KoM ranking, where he is 2nd now together with Trilux`s Schillenger.
Rothaus` Koep within the group of the day
Unfortunately he wasn`t able to ride with the best in this group and lost contact later on the stage.
With the last climb starting, the gap to the leader Schillenger was pretty solid but some small favourites wanted to gain time or at least a good stage result. So there were many attacks. And it was great to see that our leader Ryder Hesjedal was always in the first rows and followed the attacks. He showed an active ride today and can hopefully do similar on the last 2 stages, which are way harder.
Ryder Hesjedal attacks on penultimate climb of stage 2
Although he had a good position in the end, he wasn`t able to challenge the remaining sprinters here. So Cerne`s Biondo takes the win here after Schillenger totally cracked up on the last kilometers.
Only bad news were that Vesely and Cucinotta both lost contact directly on the first hill. Both wouldn`t have been able to reach a good result today, but hopefully they didn`t spend too much time in the wind today and can comeback tomorrow. |

Tour Mediterraneen - Novak attacking, Hesjedal still in reach
Who else but Jakub Novak was supposed to attack on the 3rd stage of the Tour Mediterraneen. He always fought for the KoM jersey again but unfortunately Meyer and Vogt were better and so he is 3rd in the ranking at the moment with 2 more stages to go.
Novak fighting for every point
In the end Cucinotta had a perfect position but no energy left, so he finished as 11th on the stage. "I had a good wheel and a nice feeling with 10km to go, but on the extremely fast last 3kms my legs started to burn and I couldn`t keep the pace. Quite disappointing day for me", Cuccinotta said after the stage.
On the 4th and hillier stage again the first favourite attacks were expected. Rothaus had quite a calm day for the most time. Just when Ginanni and Di Maggio attacked in the end, Rothaus was seen at the front of the peloton for a short time.
"I considered to follow them, but these two are just on a higher level, so I would have spend much energy for nothing probably. Also the peloton was still very big and so I want to try tomorrow, where bigger gaps can be expected", explained Ryder his tactic.
So tomorrow we hopefully see a Rothaus fight to enter the top10. |

Tour Mediterraneen - Rothaus duo surprise on final stage
On the final stage of our 2nd stage race this season Team Rothaus performed very strong and surprised some other teams. In a very hard stage with lots of hills there were already splits on the first climb. The pace was incredibly fast but Hesjedal and Ruijgh never had big troubles and were very concentrated.
With Focus` Roy opening the final with 25km to go and a solo attack on the 2nd last mountain, there were many splits now and luckily both of our leaders were in the first small chasing group around most team leaders and the yellow jersey. Great tactical advantage with two riders in the group, while most favourites were already isolated ffrom their helpers.
Ruijgh working for Hesjedal and the favourites on the final climb
Roy was incredibly strong today and won the stage. Also the two race favourites Di Maggio, winner of the overall and Ginanni as also Bellis were too strong for Hesjedal, but in the next small group Hesjedal finished 6th of the day and even a surprising 5th in the overall, while Ruijgh climbed onto the 10th and 12th overall. That is really a great result for our two climbers and should be a big motivation for the next races.
Next race for us is the Mallorca Challenge with our strongest team so far around Ryder Hesjedal and Ben Hermans. See you there.

Vuelta a Mallorca - Line-Up & goals
From France we are heading South towards Mallorca for another hard stage race with an incredibly strong start list.
Leader
Ryder Hesjedal |
Co-Leader
Ben Hermans |
Luxury Teammates
Andrei Kunitski | Aurélien Passeron |
Talents
Thomas Koep | Alexander Krieger | Mikel Landa |
Hesjedal will try to prove his great form from the Tour Mediterraneen, where he finished 5th. He will get good support from Ben Hermans. Together they might be able to get decent results against the big guns like Valverde, Di Maggio, Roche, LL Sanchez, Samu Sanchez or Cobo Acebo. It will be the toughest challenge for our team so far and a top10 in the final rankings might be not very realistic as in our first two races. But with a bit of luck and on a good day our team might be able to get a top15.
More likely we will have to look for our chances in breakaways. Not just our helpers Passeron and Kunitski, who could do very well there, but also our two leaders might have the chance to jump into a group on the last two stages.
Our three talents Kope, Krieger and Landa might get their chance as well. Koep already showed his fighting spirit in France

Vuelta a Mallorca - Hesjedal in reach, Passeron attacking
We already finished 3 of 5 stages including one of the hardest, but with 2 more hilly stages to come the overall is still pretty changable.
On the first two stages we had absolutely no ambitions without a sprinter. So it was nice to see that Passeron found his way into the breakaway, although they were caught again later.
Passeron being in the break of stage 1
In the final a crash happened and some of our talents were involved there, but luckily none of our leaders.
Also on the next flat stage we wanted to go into the breaks but unfortunately none of our riders were able to jump to the deciding group. So it was again Passeron with a small sign as 15th in the sprint.
The 3rd stage just finished and in such a strong line-up it went pretty much as expected. Passeron was again in the breakaway but with riders like Lloret or Roy later he had no chance to follow on the mountains.
Hesjedal and Hermans were our strongest riders and still within reach. Also they have enough time to the best to be in the break in one of the next 2 stages. Unfortunately Hesjedal wasn`t able to gain much time in the descent and so he finished within a bigger group and is now 17th but same time to the 11th. So pretty much is still possible here. |

Vuelta a Mallorca - Unadventurous finish
Today the Vuelta a Mallorca ended and on the one hand a bit disappointing and on the other hand pretty boring as there were no time gaps on the last 2 stages within the first pretty big group.
On stage 4 there was nothing seen of Team Rothaus and people say that team manager Roturn wasn`t very happy with their riders.
On stage 5 Landa tried it in the break with less success. In the end it was again up to Hesjedal, who tried to attack but not with last consequence and so it was decided in a sprint once again. Hesjedal surprisingly finished 11th on both days, but still not able to improve in the overall, where he is within the same time as the 11th and just 2s out of the top10.
Also Ben Hermans reached the top20 as 19th, but showed a very invisible race here. There we expected a bit more and hope he finds his skills in the next Rothaus races, where he always is one of our leaders.
Actually it could have ended much worse with this starting field and if someone would have told us that we will finish 2s out of the top10 before the race I would be happy. But now it`s more a bad feeling as we could have done better for sure. But this belongs to a long season. You cannot always be lucky and also need some weaker races.

Rothaus Blog - Eurosport Interview with Maxime Vantomme
ESP: You are one of the stars in the team, but so far not participating in the races although there were already 3 sprinter classics. Have you been surprised by this, too?
Vantomme: It might look weird, but this was planned by us. Our manager and I sat together a few weeks ago and planned my season. We decided that I will start a bit later and so the first sprinter classics were a bit bad placed if I want to keep a good form over the whole season.
ESP: So when can your fans expect you in the peloton?
Vantomme: My first race will be Nokere-Koerse without that big ambitions but it suits my schedule pretty well with the De Panne Tour and Profronde Van Drenthe. Most important in these races is to find our wheels for the most important races this season.
ESP: What races do you mean exactly?
Vantomme: Starting with the Berlin Pro Race, Criterium Hainleite and the PT Race Vattenfall Cyclassics. I hope to do well in all of them and win at least one although it will be hard against all the strong sprinters, but I was promised to have a team build around me that will be able to control the race.
ESP: And what are your personal goals for this season next to the classics?
Vantomme: Winning as many stages as possible. I think 5 wins should be possible minimum and hopefully some sprinter jerseys. The more the better.
ESP: Thanks for your time and last but not least maybe a prediction for the GP Lugano?
Vantomme: Easy one. Hermans will dominate there for sure. (laughs and leaves the room) |

GP Lugano - Line-Up & goals
After a short race break we are back in our first ever classic. It`s the very hard GP Lugano, where many big names try to give their best.
Our team of course wants to take as many points as possible. It`s the race of our loanies. All 4 of them will be in our 7 rider line-up.
Leader
Ben Hermans |
Co-Leader
Andrei Kunitski | Rob Ruijgh |
Talents
Mikel Landa | Johim Ariesen | Jakub Novak | Daniel Vesely |
Hermans is our clear leader here. A top15 is his goal but with a bit of luck and a good day he wants to try to reach the top10. He knows that this will be very hard, so hopefully he got the legs for a mid stage attack. He surely has the skills for such a long attack.
His biggest support might be Rob Ruijgh and Andrei Kunitski. One of them might try it with an early breakaway to support Ben in the later phase of the race.
Then our 4 young guns. Landa and Novak already proved their talent in previous races and might go in the breakaway if our co leaders are in a bad position.
Vesely is still looking for his form and hopefully he finds it here, while Johim Ariesen makes is season debut. The young Dutch was our first ever signing and so we are pretty much looking forward to his race here, although we expect him to be at the end of the field pretty early as he is more a guy for the flat sprint races.

GP Lugano - Rothaus offensive without the big coup
The GP Lugano just ended and in general it was a good day for us. Our riders showed that they can compete with the best but due to all the big names here we haven`t been able to get a high pointer here.
It all started well with Mikel Landa once again in the break of the day. So our first goal achieved as our sponsor was shown in the media pretty often now.
But our more important tactical move was the mid stage attack by Ben Hermans. He followed Bono and Rovny later on the stage and tried to jump to the big group ahead. Unfortunately he was a bit late and so he had to chase the group solo and needed more time than the other two.
Mikel Landa in the group of the day / Hermans attacking out of the peloton
So far so good. 2/3 goals succeeded.
Unfortunately Chris Froome from Rapha Condor also decided to make a mid stage move later and when he bridged the gap there was no longer harmony in the group and the advance melted a lot. Quite a pity as Hermans` chance for a surprising podium here was pretty well actually.
But at least he tried evrything to avoid being caught, but with the first favourites attacking his chances went to zero. Plus our bad luck when Mikel Landa crashed and so missed the chance for a decent result here or being a solid helper for Hermans.
Landa crashing after a sharp corner / Hermans trying to avoid the fusion with the favourites
Aleksandar Flügel, one of our early interests, won the race solo after a an strong attack on the last climb ahead of the biggest favourites. Hermans as 16th can be pretty happy with his result after a long solo chase. Unfortunately the climb was just a very bit too long, otherwise he might have had the chance to sprint for a top10 here.

Rothaus Blog - Lars Boom Interview
Press Director: The season already last 2 months, but we haven`t seen you racing yet. How was your preparation for your season starter, Volta ao Algarve and what is your first impression of the team?
Lars Boom: It was pretty well actually. I had some cross events this winter and then a big road preparation in January and February. So I hope for a good race in Portugal.
So far we had some nice results, especially the Tour of Mediterraneen was a big success for the team. We just need more of this luck and we will improve in the rankings for sure. Our most important races are still coming.
In general we have some experienced riders, that surely will collect points all over the season and also some talented riders that already showed an offensive style.
PD: Your name is often compared to riders like Ignatiev, Reus, Koren or Larsson. Will we see interesting battles between you guys over the season?
Boom: This is very likely I think. I know Reus for quite a while now and it won`t be easy to beat him. But all of us are on a pretty similar level, so I guess all of us might have some good and some bad days. Just Ignatiev was quite a shock for us, when we heard about his transfer into the Continental Tour. It will be very hard to beat him but we will try everything.
On the other hand I will also ride some cobbled races, that`s a big difference between us, there I have to challenge completely different riders.
PD: The Volta ao Algarve favours riders with a mix of timetrial and puncheur qualities. Do you aim the overall win there?
Boom: Hard to say. It`s my first season race and so I don`t know where I am. Also the startlist wasn`t published yet. If the above mentioned riders will be there, too, it could be an interesting race as most of them, haven`t raced so far. Just Larsson is already secured for this race, so a top5 is my minimum goal, although the timetrial isn`t very long, what favours the great puncheurs and weaker time trialists.
PD: What comes after Portugal? Any other highlights for you?
Boom: My real season starts in May with the Bayern Rundfahrt, where I expect a big competition. Before I head towards Belgium, where I will ride the E3 Prijs and the De Panne Tour before entering my home country with the Hel van Het Mergelland. I don`t really know, what I should expect from these races, but I will try my best to get some points at least.
Races in the later season are in my mind but we`ll see later, where I go.
PD: And your absolutely season highlight?
Boom: Definitely the chance to ride the two Pro Tour classics Grand Duche and Vattenfall Cyclassics. In the first one I might be one of the team leaders, although I won`t be able to challenge the big favourites like Bakelants or Schleck, but let`s see how my legs are on this day.
But other than that probably my goal to win the overall in Bayern.
PD: Sounds like an ambitious season for you. Good luck for all your personal goals and good luck in your aimed races.
Boom: Thanks. |
