Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11

Thanks.
I haven`t played the whole Mallorca Challenge yet. But I think i will post the reports in the next days. But in the 2010 David Millar had problems to get the first group, so my leader will be Sanchez if everything works normal.

Mallorca Challenge - Stage 3
Trofeo Inca

img151.imageshack.us/img151/7605/profilecy.jpg
First hilly stage today. Especially the 2nd mountain will split the field in several groups. Our leader Rojas will have big problems to defend his jersey even if he can climb quite well for a sprinter.
Biggest names are probably Contador and Sanchez today, but they prepare in first line for the tour. So my guess for today is Tony Martin, which showed a good performance in Down Under. He also has a nice team around him with Velits and Suitsou. Also we hope for Luis Leon Sanchez, even if we think there will be harder stages in the next 2 days.

img232.imageshack.us/img232/3747/kpcm0006.jpg
Start and finish are in Inca today. The weather could be better, it `s quite foggy but at least the temperatures are not that bad.

img254.imageshack.us/img254/6813/kpcm0008.jpg
Jesus Hernandez (Astana) attacks. A few more riders are following him. The race was very nervous in the beginning. Many attacks and a fast tempo behind.

img524.imageshack.us/img524/1000/kpcm0009.jpg
This attack was successful. Next to Hernandez there are Kuschynski (Liquigas), Kritskiy (Katusha), Castano (Xacobeo) and Oroz (Palmeiras) in todays group.

img140.imageshack.us/img140/6558/kpcm0011g.jpg
The first mountain sprint and Castano wons it ahead of Oroz and Hernandez. The other 3 riders had some light problems following the high pace. Probably they will split again on the next longer mountain.

img146.imageshack.us/img146/3458/kpcm0012.jpg
With 4`38 and 53km to go the peloton reaches the top led by Garmin.
Rojas without any problems in first row, but the real difficulty is still in front of us.

img63.imageshack.us/img63/655/kpcm0014.jpg
Boom and Millar have a bad day unfortunately, so just Kreder is leading together with Suitsou and Velits. Rojas is still able to follow, but it`s just a question of time when he will get problems. So as we said before. It makes no sense to defend the jersey by hook or crook. Sanchez feels strong so he will lead the team and try to keep the jersey in our team.

img221.imageshack.us/img221/2821/kpcm0015.jpg
The first favourite attack. Alberto Contador gives it a try after 2/3 of the mountain. In the break there are just Castano, Hernandez and Oroz left. Kuschynski is still in front of the big pack, Braco and Kritskiy just passed the favourites group.

img137.imageshack.us/img137/4895/kpcm0016.jpg
Caused by this attack the group splits another time. Also Castano with big problems. He can`t follow his group mates, although he is the strongest climber on the paper.
Rodriguez, Tondo, Scarponi and Moreno tried to catch up with Contador but HTC gave them no chance. Also Contador will be caught soon probably.
Sanchez with just one more helper. Thomas Peterson is doing an excellent job today. Rojas, Kreder, Boom and Millar are still in the first group but they will fall in the second obviously.
22,7km -> 2`43 still for Oroz and Hernandez. It`s looking quite good for them actually.

img84.imageshack.us/img84/6470/kpcm0019.jpg
On the descent they didn`t lost much time. So with 8,8km to go they have 52s to Castano and 1`22 to the pack.
One of them will win this stage and probably the leader jersey. But who will be stronger after climbing a harder mountain than some of us expected.

img841.imageshack.us/img841/7431/kpcm0020.jpg
It`s Jesus Hernandez (Astana). Oroz can`T oversprint him. The favourites group was 1km and 41s too late. Cataldo still tried it in the last 2km but he wasn`t able to create a gap, but at least he became 3rd. Just Sanchez and Peterson were in this group. Kreder, Boom, Millar and the yellow jersey Rojas arrived 2`13 later. So we lost the leader jersey as we expected but now it will be hard to get it back. Hernandez and Oroz aren`t bad climber so it won`t be very easy.
Also Tony Martin looked very strong and next to Astana they have the stronges squad here. So he might be a big favourite for the next 2 stages. But LL Sanchez is still very optimistic to win the overall this year after last years 2nd.

Honestly with those glasses on your Garmin riders I keep thinking every one of them is Hesjedal, because that was the exact design of his irl shades.

FreitasPCM
Unlucky the break made it to the end.

@ valverde321: Probably I will deactivate the glasses of my team in future. The main reason why I started with Garmin was that I created a Garmin and a Milram face pack and I didn`t want to play with Milram Wink So I can`t see very much of it.

@ FreitasPCM: Indeed. Also it was very surprising. On the heli screen you can see how close we were when Contador attacked. Then Velits and Siutsou made an incredible high pace and I didn`t expect them to have still energy left to have success. 1km more climbing and they were easily caught but directly after the next corner was the top of the mountain.
Seems to be a typical result for me in 2011 so far Wink

Tour of Qatar - Stage 4
Khalifa Stadium - Al Khor Corniche

img822.imageshack.us/img822/2264/profild.jpg
Today we rider from the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha to Al Khor Corniche. Like all Qatar stages we ride a totally flat course. Fortunately the weather forecast is less windy than the last 2 days. "Just" 40-45km/h. So it is still possible that the group will split again but probably the pack will arrive together.

img685.imageshack.us/img685/3747/kpcm0006.jpg
Start next to the Stadium. What can we expect of Farrar today? Of course his shape isn`t perfect yet, but normally his fitness level should be similar than the other sprinters here. Unlike yesterday he won`t have very big problems with the wind.

img404.imageshack.us/img404/6813/kpcm0008.jpg
After 15km Rollin (Cervelo) attacks. Timmer (Skil), Intxausti (Euskatel), Gourov (Astana), Ghyllebert (An Post), Schulze (PSK) and Pagliarini (Scott) follow him.

img189.imageshack.us/img189/1000/kpcm0009.jpg
The peloton let them ride away and the speed in the field becomes more comfortable now.
Except of Schulze all of them were already in the breakaway of stage 2. This really doesn`t happen very often.
With An Post and Scott the two most offensive teams so far are also in this group today.

img708.imageshack.us/img708/6497/kpcm0010.jpg
Timmer wins the sprint in front of Forero and Intxausti. The bonus seconds here are also a way to get a higher overall position if you can handle to stay in the peloton after being caught.
The peloton passes this point 4`40 later.

img121.imageshack.us/img121/3458/kpcm0012.jpg
The leader`s team Saxobank is doing the pace now with the 3 Danish riders Morkov, Jorgensen and Christensen.
The advance melts under 4 minutes now with still 70km to go.

img411.imageshack.us/img411/575/kpcm0013.jpg
On the 2nd sprint, won by Rollin, Forero and Intxausti you can already see the pack on the hoizon.
52km -> 2`40

img101.imageshack.us/img101/655/kpcm0014.jpg
Already 28km until Al Khor Corniche the breakaway ended. Will it come to an sprint or are some riders still trying to attack?

img39.imageshack.us/img39/2821/kpcm0015.jpg
Saxobank did a good job and so nobody had a real chance for attacking.
The sprint preparations starts and Farrar is unfortunately a bit too far behind. He got Swift`s wheel but it doesn`t seem to be enough for another stage win.
Especially Cervelo with 5 riders in the first line are very strong. But the strongest again, Lancaster isn`t really a teamplayer again. Instead of pulling his teammates Bos and Reimer he is going on his own and is even a better help for other riders, which can use his wind shadow.
On the othe hand Edward King and Michael Schär are doing a great job for Martin Reimer, the second Cervelo sprinter.

img243.imageshack.us/img243/4895/kpcm0016.jpg
Bos was the first in the wind on the last km and so the winner Juan Jose Haedo, Van Hummel and Swift can still overtake him.
Farrar had no more energy to accelerate out of Swift`s back and so he just used his wheel to become 6th. Not the best result for us.
This was the 2nd time in a row that he doesn`t get time bonuses.
Now it`s almost impossible to win the overall in 2011 after Haedo increased their time difference again.

Mallorca Challenge - Stage 4
Trofeo Deià

img833.imageshack.us/img833/3596/profilmb.jpg
Start and finish in Deia. The route leads one time around the North-Western mountains of Mallorca over quite difficult parts. Today is even a bit harder than yesterday. Even if a bigger group comes together in the long descent there is another difficulty with the small climb up to Deia again.

img163.imageshack.us/img163/362/kpcm0007.jpg
Directly after the start Pacheco (Xacobeo) gives it a try and attacks on the first hill. Luckily there is not team following him immediately so all riders without bigger problems there.

img816.imageshack.us/img816/6813/kpcm0008.jpg
On the descent Duarte (Cafe), Pardilla (Carmiooro) and Mayot (Footon) join him. But there is still another group between them and the peloton.

img257.imageshack.us/img257/1000/kpcm0009.jpg
After 50km both groups come together and now there are also Beuret (Cervelo), Clement (Rabobank), Perez Moreno (Euskatel), Rosendo (Andalucia), Pena Iza (Caja), Hansen (HTC) and Vandborg (Liquigas) in this group.

img232.imageshack.us/img232/4137/kpcm0011.jpg
After yesterdays experience the peloton don`t want to give them a real chance. With some good climbers in front especially Astana and Garmin makes a higher pace now.

img716.imageshack.us/img716/3458/kpcm0012.jpg
The climbing part begins and the first riders with some problems. Beuret, Rosendo, Pena Iza, Hansen, Vandborg and Duarte can`t longer follow and fall back a bit. Also there is a split in the peloton into 2 big groups now.

img838.imageshack.us/img838/575/kpcm0013.jpg
On the 2nd part of the climb most of the breakaway are caught by a fast Astana pace. Just Clement, Perez Moreno and surprisingly Duarte, who had already problems on the first climb are in front.

img188.imageshack.us/img188/655/kpcm0014.jpg
LL Sanchez raises his speed and a few riders in the back have big problems now. Vinokourov tries to close the gap for Contador and the leader Hernandez.

img233.imageshack.us/img233/2821/kpcm0015.jpg
But it was enough to split the group into several pieces. Just a few riders were able to follow. Scarponi, Contador, Vinokourov, Martin and Sanchez are probably the biggest favourites. HTC still with some helpers and luckily also Peterson did it in this group. Another very strong performance of him.

img191.imageshack.us/img191/4895/kpcm0016.jpg
Unfortunately a bigger pack came back in the descent with Oroz and Hernandez, the first two after yesterdays stage.
The last climb of today and the last 3 out of the break are catched-up.
Time for another attack. Contador, Sanchez, Scarponi and Martin, definitely the strongest riders here, create immediately a small gap and probably one of them will also win this stage.

img178.imageshack.us/img178/9961/kpcm0017.jpg
Sanchez attacked again. He really wants to win the overall here.
Unfortunately Astana increases the pace in the pack although there is Contador in the first group, but they also want to defend Hernandez jersey.
Obviously Contador doesn`t feel strong enough to beat especially Martin and Sanchez, which already showed a very good shape.

img831.imageshack.us/img831/383/kpcm0018.jpg
The attack was perfectly set to win this stage. He didn`t gain time towards the other favourites but at least he closes the gap to Hernandez a little bit. So he "just" needs 25s to beat Hernandez tomorrow. But his win will give him more self-confidence. Also Sanchez seems on a good way for Paris-Nice.
Except of Van Der Velde all Garmin riders reached Deia within the first big group. So the descent was obviously too long for smaller groups and the last climb to easy for splitting the group again.

P.S. Unfortunately I can`t open the Mallorca Challenge stage 4 made by the community for no reason at all. So I had to create my own version. Because of my laziness I didn`t add landscape and sprints. Before this story I wanted to add it, but obviously I didn`t even saved the editor file for it. So some screens might look a bit strange Wink

Nice win.

Another flat stage. Normally it`s predestined for Farrar. But as we`ve seen in the last days he can`t really handle the strong wind with his average fitness so far. He is not on the same level than last year at the same time.

The race proceeds like the days before. A group with smaller teams like An Post, Café de Colombia, CCC Polsat, Endura Racing, Scott - Marcondes and also Euskatel with Intxausti attack.
About 20-30 km to the line they are caught by the peloton and the sprint preparations begin.
Again Cervelo and Saxobank are the most active in the last 12 km.
Farrar had Theo Bos´ wheel in the hope to get a podium again. But just today Bos had a bad day and so Farrar also had a bad position.
So he had another 6th place.
Surprising winner was Mirco Lorenzetto (Lampre) ahead of Gert Steegmans and Juan Jose Haedo, who is still overall leader.
Farrar has nor more chance to win the overall. So tomorrow is the last chance for a 2nd stage win for us.

Mallorca Challenge - Stage 5
Trofeo Magaluf - Palmanova

img695.imageshack.us/img695/6436/profilevj.jpg
The last stage of the Mallorca Challenge leads over several hills. We must try to make the race as hard as possible to get the needed 25 seconds to Hernandez.
Biggest difficulties are the Col de Soller at 98km and the Col de Claret after 121km. Also there is a small hill, the Col d`es Tords in the end of this stage, but it might not be long enough to gain much time.

img155.imageshack.us/img155/5266/kpcm0002.jpg
Directly after the start Garcia Dapena (Xacobeo) attacks.

img156.imageshack.us/img156/331/kpcm0003.jpg
Piedra (Andalucia), Etxegibel (Caja), Belletti (Liquigas), Martinez (Cafe) and Quinziato (Katusha) join him after 13km. So todays group stays very fast. Dapena is with 8`53 the best rider in this group. But also the bonus seconds in the end can decide the overall.

img225.imageshack.us/img225/4198/kpcm0004.jpg
The group reaches the first mountain. Dapena wins it ahead of Martinez and Piedra.

img100.imageshack.us/img100/2088/kpcm0005.jpg
Peter Velits attacks out of the peloton. He is a important helper for Tony Martin, so they might plan something.
With 3 minutes lag the peloton will arrive on top.

img521.imageshack.us/img521/3747/kpcm0006.jpg
After a 30km solo Velits reaches the group.
62km -> 3`14

img139.imageshack.us/img139/362/kpcm0007.jpg
In front of the Col de Soller our team increases the tempo a lot. We hope to split the group until just the favourites are isolated in the next 30 kilometers.
Kreder, Rojas, Van Der Velde and Boom are doing a good job today.

img510.imageshack.us/img510/6813/kpcm0008.jpg
After the first hard mountain the peloton is splitted into 3 big parts. The first group includes just 53 rider. But Oroz and Hernandez are still in there.
But the gap to the break melts very quick now. Also some of them have big problems to follow Velits` pace.
46km -> 1`45

img412.imageshack.us/img412/1000/kpcm0009.jpg
With a high pace by Astana and Garmin the group is caught at the Col de Claret. Hernandez and Oroz are still there.

img225.imageshack.us/img225/6497/kpcm0010.jpg
Rodriguez attacks on the last small hill in front of the finish. Scarponi, Florencio, LL Sacnehz, Cataldo and later Martin follow him.

img97.imageshack.us/img97/4137/kpcm0011.jpg
But just Sanchez was able to create a small gap on top of the hill. The winner gets 20s time bonus, so a 5s gap would be enough. But it`s still 12km to go.

img220.imageshack.us/img220/3458/kpcm0012.jpg
3km to go and there is still a 20s gap. Great ride by Sanchez once more again. There his timetrial skills really helped him on the last 10km.

img257.imageshack.us/img257/575/kpcm0013.jpg
The gap is big enough to celebrate the 2nd stage win in sequence. But the peloton closed the gap to him, so he just has the 20s bonus seconds.
But are Hernandez and Oroz still in this group? Some riders lost contact on the last climb.
Just 43 riders are in the same time.
What a pity. Hernandez was there as 14th and Oroz as 32nd. So Hernandez will get the overall in 2011. Sanchez just overtakes Oroz for a 2nd place. It`s a good result but again we were beated by a breakaway like in Down Under.
Hopefully this won`t be our fate for this season.
But we mustn`t forget Thomas Peterson. He really improved during the last season and showed his talent in this race. Although he was helping Sanchez on all the hills he is still 14th in the overall.

Too bad you couldn't take the GC, but 2 stage wins by LL is also nice.

Good win with LLS. Strong perfomance in the season start.

Sometimes i still have the PCM09 style of play.
Going on x8 and relax Wink Some team will make the pace and get the breakaway in every single race.
I should take more care of breakaways and how dangerous they could be.

Roturn: It's an interesting read. I know from experience in my games that pcm2010 you really have to make the race. This makes it more difficult to get results and if you sit back it does mean that some hilly stage will not be decisive. But then if you wish it to be decisive then really you have to make it decisive!

Liking this one year on fantasy scenerio, looking forward to the real racing in the protour races Smile

I know. Normally I take care. But if I eat something e.g. then I am a bit sloppy Wink

Today the shortest stage is on the program. Totally flat and windy again.
Probably it will be like the 4 stages before. Breakaway, catch-up, mass-sprint.

Farrar`s shape is becoming better from day to day, but is it enough for beating the others?

Timmer (Skil), de Maar (United Healthcare), Paterski (Liquigas), Forero (Cafe), Suray (An Post), Ruiz (Scott) and Bobridge (Garmin)are building the group of the day.
The last days we were riding for Farrar but he recognized that his shape is not as good as he expected a week ago.

Saxobank, Sky and Cervelo are doing the pace.
For our Garmin team it`s a quite comfortable day.

Around the 30km line they catch the group and now the wind comes from the side. Quickly there is a big split in the peloton. Luckily all Garmin riders are in the first group but there are also teams without a single rider in front. Of course they do now the pace behind.
Biggest names in the 2nd group are Hushovd and Flecha, who prepare for the upcoming cobbled classics Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne.

Today it seems like there will be a time gap in the finish instead of coming together like in the last days.
Farrar with an excellent position on Steegmans wheel.
The sprint begins and Steegmans isn`t sprinting. What a shame. So Farrar must try to hang on somewhere else, but of course there is already a gap to the others and he is forced to ride in the wind now too early.
Another bad day for us, even if it looked so good at the 3km mark.

Ben Swift wins ahead of Reimer and Vissers. This result alone shows how weird the sprint was today.

Sorry for the second Qatar stage without pictures. I saved the replay, edited another savegame and afterwards the replay was overwritten with another race I haven`t participated (Caisse-Mediteraneen on the same date) like I posted in another thread. If someone knows how to get my replay back, I will add some pictures here.

One of the earliest races in France every season is leading through the region "Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur".
It`s held since 1969 and was a one day race up to 2008 when they added a second stage. Record champion with 3 victories is the Dutch rider Joop Zoetemelk.

Lars Boom
Johan Vansummeren
Michel Kreder
Murilo Fischer
Thomas Peterson
Ricardo Van Der Velde

Our squad it the same as in the Mallorca Challenge. Just Vansummeren replaces Rojas Gil as the profiles are too hilly for a sprinter.
Our goal is to bring Sanchez on the podium. After his great performance on Mallorca he really wants to win after last years second.

Tour du Haut Var - Stage 1
La Croix Valmer - Grimaud

img821.imageshack.us/img821/1338/profilegi.jpg
Most parts of this stage are quite flat. The hills aren`t long and steep enough. So we expect quite a lot of riders in the end of this stage.
But the last km are going uphill, so hilly sprinters will have advantages there.

ticker.live-radsport.ch/images/10021028329-hoehenprofil-tour-cycliste-international-du-haut-var-2010---etappe-1-letzte-5-km.jpg

img98.imageshack.us/img98/4198/kpcm0004.jpg
Simon Geschke (Nutrixxion) attacks and Adam Hansen (HTC), Laurent Didier (Saxobank), Davy Commeyne (Landbouwcredit) and Tony Gallopin (Cofidis) follow. After 25km the group seems to stay.

img826.imageshack.us/img826/2088/kpcm0005.jpg
Mortensen (Vacansoleil), Mangel (Saur) and C.Pineau (Roubaix) attacked later and were able to join during the climb on the "Col de la Garde Freinet" at 41km. On top of the mountain they lead with 6`30. But still 120km to ride. So no problem so far.

img685.imageshack.us/img685/9254/kpcm0006i.jpg
Especially Caisse d`Epargne, who has a really strong team here, aren`t happy with this situation and controlling the race now with a time gap between 5 and 6 minutes.

img686.imageshack.us/img686/362/kpcm0007.jpg
On top of the 2nd mountain at 102km they just lead with 3`30.

img443.imageshack.us/img443/6813/kpcm0008.jpg
8km to the finish the peloton overtakes Simon Geschke, who tried to attack out of the group, but his solo escape just took 2 km. If nothing surprising happens, we will see a uphill sprint now.
Vansummeren, Boom and Sanchez are in first line. Also there are some "trains" with ISD for Visconti, Cofidis for S.Dumoulin and Saxobank for Duque.

img810.imageshack.us/img810/1000/kpcm0009.jpg
Visconti in his continental leader jersey wins and will change this jersey with the yellow one tomorrow. Dumoulin and Duque are following on the next places.
No favourite lost time today except of the time bonuses for Visconti.
The more difficult stage will be tomorrow where we expect lots of attacks.

Tour du Haut Var - Stage 2
Draguignan - Montauroux

img269.imageshack.us/img269/1835/profilelc.jpg
Todays stage is much more hilly then the first. So we can expect many smaller groups. The last 5 km are quite similar to yesterday actually.
But at least Duque and Dumoulin won`t be there today probably.

ticker.live-radsport.ch/images/10021026032-hoehenprofil-tour-cycliste-international-du-haut-var-2010---etappe-2-letzte-5-km.jpg

img163.imageshack.us/img163/6497/kpcm0010.jpg
After 30km of many attacks the group stays. It`s a very strong group.
Tosatto (Quickstep), Bessy (Saur), Van Den Broeck (Omega), Fuglsang (Saxobank), Nys (Landbouwcredit) and Mazet (Big Mat) are in there. So 2 of my overall favourites try it with an early attack. But they might not be in top shape but preparing for Paris Nice and Tirreno or the GT`s.
All of them have just 20s to Visconti.

img151.imageshack.us/img151/4137/kpcm0011.jpg
Especially Garmin and HTC-Columbia are doing the pace behind. Both have strong teams here and the two big favourites.

img34.imageshack.us/img34/3458/kpcm0012.jpg
After the first finish passage at 65km Garmin and ISD-Neri are doing an very fast pace and so the peloton splits into 3 bigger groups.
120km -> 6`00

img824.imageshack.us/img824/575/kpcm0013.jpg
Quite fast it`s obvious that there are 4 very strong teams participating. Caisse, ISD, HTC and Garmin. After increasing the tempo again just these 4 teams were in first group.
Cobo, Lopez (Caisse), Martin, Siutsou (HTC), Visconti, Clarke, Kostyuk (ISD), Sanchez, Peterson, Millar, Kreder, Boom (Garmin).
Vansummeren, who was responsible for the tempo boost felt back.

img251.imageshack.us/img251/655/kpcm0014.jpg
Cause of the high pace now they catch the breakaway earlier than expected on the 45km mark.

img713.imageshack.us/img713/4895/kpcm0016.jpg
Siutsou with a very strong performance is increasing another time. The group splits again. Most helpers are falling back plus the overall leader Visconti can`t follow.
He falls back together with Lopez, Fuglsang and Van Den Broeck. The other riders from the break are still following the HTC train.
Surprisingly the two strongest of the break can`t follow while the others seem to be in much better shape. Now just HTC and Garmin with 2 riders each in first group. Except of Sanchez and Boom all Garmin riders had problems to follow.

img266.imageshack.us/img266/9961/kpcm0017.jpg
With 25km to go Martin attacks. No one can or wants to counter. It`s still a wide distance to the finish and Boom feels quite good, so he makes the pace for Sanchez.
Sometimes it looked like they will catch him in the next seconds then the gap became bigger again.
Unfortunately Sanchez had some problems to follow on one point, although he was totally fit. So Boom had to wait for 5s and Martin, who was almost caught, was gone again.

img404.imageshack.us/img404/383/kpcm0018.jpg
Last 3 uphill km and Sanchez attacks out of the group. Tony Martin is directly in front of him. Who will win the stage and the overall?

img87.imageshack.us/img87/6470/kpcm0019.jpg
Martin was stronger on the last km and so Sanchez wasn`t able to close the gap between them. Martin crowns his excellent performance in the early season with this victory today. Sanchez is again 2nd. But his shape gives us hope for a successful Paris-Nice.
HTC and Garmin also took the 3rd and 4th and dominated this race totally.
In the end the time gaps were bigger than expected and looked more like the results of a hard mountain top stage.

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad is a Flanders Classics single day cycle race held in the Belgian province of East Flanders.
It uses some parts of the Ronde Van Vlaanderen and is a preperation race for the big cobbled classics.
It is characterised by cold weather and short cobbled climbs.

Result in 2010:

1 Fabian Cancellara Team Saxobank
2 Gert Steegmans RadioShack
3 Thor Hushovd Cervelo Test Team
4 Leif Hoste Omega Pharma-Lotto
5 Manuel Quinziato Team Liquigas
6 Stijn Devolder Quickstep
7 Lars Boom Rabobank
8 Sylvain Chavanel Quickstep
9 Vladimir Gusev Team Katusha
10 Tom Boonen Quickstep

Garmin:
Murilo Fischer
Martijn Maaskant
Lars Boom
Ricardo Van Der Velde
Tyler Farrar
Johan Vansummeren
Brent Rowe
Matthew Wilson

With all our cobbled specialists we take part here. Our captains are Farrar in a sprint finish and Vansummeren and Maaskant for a late attack. Also Lars Boom had a top 10 last year and will be our joker.

Favourites:
Except of Team RadioShack all big teams are here. Almost every top cobbles rider stays on the start. So there are many favourites but the two biggest are of course Fabian Cancellara and Tom Boonen like in every cobbled race.
Liquigas totally rebuild their classic squad. Quinziato transfered to Katusha and Gilbert and Nuyens to Liquigas. So we can expect quite a lot of them in the next 2 months.

Gent - Gent

img844.imageshack.us/img844/4198/kpcm0004.jpg
After 35km a group with Valjavec (Ag2r), Moreno (Omega), Reus (Rabobank), Pinot (FDJ), Habeaux (Topsport), Jin (Skil), Paquet (Verandas) and Hegyvari (Landbouwcredit) is in front.

The first cobbled passage this year. It`S still dry but there are very dark clouds on the horizon. So it might be another factor in the hardest part of this race.
128km -> 5`00

img251.imageshack.us/img251/3747/kpcm0006.jpg
The group is in the hilly/cobble part now and there are also the first rain drops.
60km -> 4`40

img219.imageshack.us/img219/362/kpcm0007.jpg
Saxobank (Cancellara), Quickstep (Boonen) and Lampre (Ballan) are doing the pace and 26km to Gent they catch todays group.

The peloton gets slower and Cancellara attacks. Flecha and his team mate Breschel follow him but both of them are caught by Quickstep again.
Now the rain becomes stronger and stronger but luckily there are just 2 more cobbled passages to ride.

img220.imageshack.us/img220/1000/kpcm0009.jpg
Also Cancellara can`t repeat his win from 2010. Just 3,4km to the line he is back in the field again. Now everybody expects a sprinter winning here. Farrar is still there but he hasn`t got a very good position. Surprisingly Murilo Fischer is our rider with the best wheel. He has the Cervelo train around Haussler. Quite a surprise after he was our men for bringing the bottles to the front over half of the race.

img215.imageshack.us/img215/6497/kpcm0010.jpg
Another surprise. Kristof Goddaert (Ag2r) was the strongest in the end. Then Freire and luckily Fischer followed.
All other Garmin riders didn`t get it in the Top20, although the group had just 39 riders. Farrar is still arguing with himself after being in a good shape and feeling very well in the end. He can`t explain why he couldn`t bring more power into the pedals. This season doesn`t really start well for him.
