It seems all teams are from either France or Kazakhstan.
I'm pretty surprised and dissapointed Vacansoleil didn't get invited. I wonder what the reason is for the organisers to not invite them after last year's performance.

It's a Dutch team, not Belgian, and there are no doping rumours concerning Vacansoleil.

SotD - Cavendish already said he is riding the Vuelta. If he is going, Greipel isn't. Simple really.

No, they just been shut out because there are too many supposedly strong teams like BMC, Sky etc. And old teams like Footon that get a spot even though they suck
Although it turns out BMC and Sky are failures and Vacansoleil would've added more then them or Footon |

I doubt Moreno will ride the Vuelta as well. He's already done the Giro-Tour double. But then again, it IS OmegaPharma-Lotto, and they do seem to like sending their tiny number of climbers to lots of grand tours.

Cavendish really seams to lack competition these days. Petacchi, despite being 36 years old and far far from as good as he was at his prime six years ago still manages to be the second fastest sprinter in the Tour...
McEwen is past his prime as well, Bennati is never there, Freire has his recurring injury and Hushovd really isn't a sprinter as much as a classics rider who can keep a high speed for a long enough time to do somewhat good in sprints. Suddenly Cavendish's largest competitors (appart from Petacchi) are Greipel and Farrar. One of which even rides for his own team. And neither of those two are anywhere near what you could call "generational talents". No wonder he seams to dominate.
you've got up and comers like Rojas (fails to get a lead out because of caisse's liking for the win of GC)
and then EBH (seems to be going in the way of hushovd, but has a better sprint imo)
and also Breschel (may get a proper lead out with another team, but doesn't seem quick enough)
anyways... Cav currently has 21 stages win in GTs |

Looking forward to see Kessiakoff. Any idea whether he'll be Garmin's GC-leader?
I am thinking it will be Danielson again. Who knows maybe Vandevelde will ride the Vuelta. Won't make it past the fourth stage due to a crash. Gotta be some kind of record, riding three Grand Tours but only like 10 total stages. |
