You can easily beat criquelion. 1 sec... You will destroy him in the TT!
You are right! Even without the resuls in the last stage I always considered Breukink to be the most important treath. He is also a very skilled TT rider and I'm glad I have a little bit of time on him. As you can see in the race reports, everytime Breukink attacked, Bugno went along.
Maassen (Buckler) was the first one to go really fast and easily overtook Gusmeroli (Gatorade) in his climb.
He eventually wins the stage with a time of 25’04”. Nijdam (Buckler) was the first one to get close.
His time was only 13” from that of Maassen (Buckler). Breukink (PDM) was at the first intermediate timing only 3” slower than Maassen (Buckler) and gained 7” on Bugno (Gatorade). He was 10” behind Nijdam (Buckler). Breukink (PDM) lost 13” on Maassen (Buckler) at the 2nd intermediate.
Bugno (Gatorade) lost only 17”. Winning the Tirreno will be really difficult now for Breukink (PDM). Breukink (PDM) didn’t lose any time anymore on Maassen (Buckler) in the last section, but it wasn’t enough. Bugno (Gatorade) finishes at 13” behind Breukink (PDM) and keeps his first place. BUGNO (GATORADE) WINS THE TIRRENO ADRIATICO!!!!!

Gatorade brings a mix of sprinters and experts on hills and mountains. Fidanza and Manzoni will try to stay with the front group and participate in the sprint if a big group makes it to the finish together. Zanatta and Volpi will try to get a good result by means of breakaways. Bugno will also try to win Milan - San Remo that way, but he will attack fairly late. He wants to be in the first group at the finish to score at least some points for the world cup. Besides the Tour one of his big challenges for this year.
294: Rogiers (Tulip), Kummer (Gatorade), McKinley (Motorola), Kemna (Telekom), Philipot (Banesto), Ouslamine(TVM), Meyvich (Carrera), Leblanc (Castorama), Peeters (Histor), Laurent (RMO) and Zanatta (Gatorade) try to get away.
275 km: The attackers have been caught.
260 km: Martinez Oliver (Banesto), Wilson (Ariostea), Abadie (Toshiba), Kemna (Telekom), Leblanc (Castorama), Roosen (Tulip), Richard (Helvetia), Volpi (Gatorade), Schuler (Motorola), Peeters (Histor) and Ouslamine (TVM) try to get away from the pack.
250 km: Del Tongo leads the chase to get the attackers back. In their effort to do so the pack breaks due to the strong winds. This will be a very difficult race for everybody. Schuler (Motorola), Martinez Oliver (Banesto), Wilson (Ariostea), Abadie (Toshiba), Peeters (Histor), Richard (Helvetia) and Roosen (Tulip) have a 26” lead on the first pack and 1’24” on the second one.
240 km: The pack has been fragmented in 5 groups. The wind is really strong.
220 km: The first group with Cipollini, Roscioli, Baldato, Bielli, Ballerini, Gelfi (All Del Tongo), Bontempi, Abdoujaparov, Giannelli, Sciandri, Puttini (All Carrera), Peeters (Histor), Martinez Oliver (Banesto) and Richard (Helvetia) have 16” on a first group and 1’43” on a second group. A third group is 2’14” behind the second one.
200: A group of 63 riders is chasing a group of 69 riders. The gap between both groups is 1’28”. All other riders are fragmented and more than 3 minutes behind the second pack. The race is over for a lot of riders before it has even started.
180 km: The two large packs have merged, but it is still a chaos and many riders are behind. Redant (Lotto) and Sorensen (Ariostea) find themselves in front of the pack with a 34” lead on Lammerts (Z) an d Chevallier (RMO) and 1’00” on the pack, from which many riders try to escape now.
165 km: Weltz (ONCE), Delion (Helvetia), Lammerts (Z), Bauer (Motorola), Kappes (Histor), Redant (Lotto), Sorensen (Ariostea) and Chevallier (RMO) has a lead of 3’45” on the pack. A last group of 31 riders is 2’02” behind the pack and seems te be coming back.
120 km: The 8 attackers have a 3’04” lead on the pack. They do not get a whole lot of space and it does not seem likely that the winner comes from this group. There is still a large group behind the pack. They could not close the gap, which increased again to 3’39”.
100 km: Delion (Helvetia), Lammertz (Z), Redant (Lotto), Sorensen (Ariostea), Chevallier (RMO), Schuler (Motorola) and Weltz (ONCE) have a 2’30” lead on the pack. The second pack, with amongst others Lejaretta (ONCE), Gorospe (Banesto), Fuerte (ONCE) and nearly the entire Telekom team is 4’55” behind.
80 km: Van Holen (Tulip) and Criquielion (Lotto) attack. Roll (Motorola) and Lemarchand (Z) try to follow.
65 km: Most of the attackers have been caught by the pack. Criquielion (Lotto) is the only one riding in front of the pack with a 34” lead.
40 km: Criquielion (Lotto) has a lead of 1’58” on the pack. A lot of riders are in trouble after the lone ride and the hills that have to be taken now.
30 km: The pack does not get any closer on the Cipressa. It seems like Criquielion (Lotto) is going to win Milan San Remo.
16 km: On the Poggia, the gap with Criquielion (Lotto) is still 3’33”. No way the pack is going to close the gap now.
3 km: A gap falls in the pack just before the sprint starts.
0 km: Criquielion (Lotto) takes revenge for the Tirreno and wins Milan - San Remo
