And now to laugh heartily at Australia as their big medal hope, Jack Bobridge, has failed to reach the final.
Kiwi Jesse Sergent qualified fastest, 0.2 ahead of Phinney - Bobridge over a second back.
After so much hype from the Australians about how brilliant Bobridge was aswell

Well yeh, the last time England rode a Team Sprint they did only get 2nd - behind Scotland at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Ahead of Australia incidentally.
Australia, who could only manage 7th in the Team Sprint yesterday, when they should have made Top 4, while Britain took 3rd despite not fielding their strongest lineup.

Yes, they did pretty bad, but they weren't getting talked up like Britain. Anyway, its 1-1 in failures so far i guess. Who will choke next? |

Britain was hardly a failure though. Only Hoy was in his strongest position. With no Staff, Kenny had to move from Man 2 to Man 1, with Edgar having to come in as Man 2. Plus, the German performance was semi-unexpected, so you cant blame their rivals for that.
Australia meanwhile seem to have been so keen to hype up Bobridge in the Individual Pursuit, and their team in the Team Pursuit - because Bobridge will make them 'so much quicker'. Lets face it, Bobridge was considered to be a guaranteed Silver as the so-called fastest rider ever (bar Boardman in the different position).

Great ride by Hoy.
Am I the only one happy with GB's performance here?

Anyone else reckon that if Hoy had lead from the front again that Awang would have come round?

That was clearly Awang's tactic, following Hoy as much as possible - in the 2nd round and the final - and then making a move late. But Hoy said himself afterwards that he knew he had to be careful about going too soon.
That tactic has yet to really fail Hoy yet though

Yeah, in the second round he looked really comfortable, didn't even try to come round. In the final Hoy was clearly in control.
I'm looking forwards to the sprint now though.

not doubting that, but he's hardly quotable - he's never gonna change from that same set reply. i saw no promise in the women's team sprint or team pursuit and so, apart from chris's win, i was not impressed.

Team sprint - valuable experience for Jess Varnish
Team pursuit - shows that we can no longer afford to allow Houvenaghel to keep doing the IP to keep up in the TP

So Varnish' performance wasnt promising in any way in the development of British female sprinters beyond Pendleton?
